Feral Interactive today announced that F1 2017, the official game of the current 2017 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, will be released for Linux on November 2nd. Developed and published by Codemasters for Windows and consoles, F1 2017 is the most compelling F1 game yet, and the latest to be brought to Linux by Feral.

F1 2017 grants players unprecedented access to not only the on-track excitement of F1, but also the off-track dealings and vehicle development that goes along with it. The ten-year Career Mode includes practice programmes to help players hone their skills, an expansive Research and Development tree to provide greater control over the development of their car, and the ability to tune engines and gearboxes over the course of the season.

Along with stunning locations and vividly-realised team members, these features combine to provide the most complete F1 experience ever to come to Linux, with all the drivers, teams, circuits and cars from the real-world F1 2017 season.

"F1 2017 is an electrifying recreation of the current season, offering a deep, engaging and yet very accessible F1 experience," said David Stephen, Managing Director of Feral Interactive "We are thrilled to be bringing it to Linux."

F1 2017 for Linux will be available from the Feral Store and Steam for $59.99/£44.99/€54,99.

System requirements will be confirmed closer to release.

A minisite for F1 2017 is available now, and a trailer is available on Feral's YouTube channel.

Vulkan only. I am certain the Windows version is DX11. Feral has been working on a vulkan wrapper for DX11, first used with Mad Max. No vulkan support on Windows, unfortunately.

Usually Feral makes good ports, unless rushed by the publisher (khm-khm... $%&*^ WB)
Haven't tried their recent ports for Deus Ex: MD, Tomb Raider, and others, but so far I was happy with their work. Very playable ports with very reasonable performance penalty.

And yeah, they moved to Vulkan.

If it is like Doom, it will likely run great in wine.

Im not a fan of Wine because it takes resources and weird mouse accel, but I will give it a try with Quake Champions, thanks for the suggestion!

It's definitely not like DOOM, because ID/Saber use a completely different, very messy engine. At this point it's unplayable in Wine.
Also, ID previously said that they have no plans for Linux port. They can barely keep up with all the bugs in Windows version...
There are few more reasons worth mentioning:
- All Linux advocates left the company. The ones who's still on board are a bunch of corporate profit-driven pricks.
- Unlike all idTech engine versions, the QC game engine only supports DX11 (e.g. requires a wrapper, which will kill an already awful performance)... No OGL, no Vulkan...
- Bethesda won't let them.

It's a good game to have on their platform. I wish more bought it elsewhere too.

Bad news I guess.... :( I can ignore many games, but not F1 series and Quake. Was so happy reading F1 was coming to Linux with full support :(

Have a dual boot with Win10 + Zorin distro. Have to still use Windows because of my quake addiction.

Apparently Quake Champions is based on DX11 so results may not be great. However the new Unreal Tournament works on Linux natively.

I have beating all 3 STALKER games, MoH: Airborne, Playing through the first witcher, and palyed CoD4 Multiplayer all on wine and have not had any issue with mouse controls.

@silentbogo missed your response, I ended up looking into it after ward and that is sad. Doom multiplayer even works great in wine. As long as games use opengl or vulkan performance is usually comparable.

Ok thanks for your input. Did you try any other call of duty?

World at War worked fine. I did not try newer than that as running steam in wine can often time have issues.
