Something seems amiss here

In the last month, the following cards have seen a H U G E jump in the % of certain cards hitting steam servers.

GTX 960: 7.90% =>14.33%
GTX 750 Ti: 7.22% =>14.10%
GTX 1060: 8.95% =>12.46%
GTX 1050 Ti: 5.96% =>12.95%
GTX 950: 298% =>5.88%

While it might seem reasonable for the current generation cards to experience a jump like this, the 950, 960 and 750 Ti seem unreal. But even w/ current generation stuff, I see little to explain the sudden jump say on the 1050 Ti, when the last 5 months progression looks like this"

2.76% ... 3.30% ... 4.11% ... 5.96% ... 9.15%

Ideas on anything that could explain Octobers numbers ?

Other oddities ....

Windows 7 usage up 22.6%
Chinese Language up 26.8%

While a large influx of Chinese players might explain the jumps, not seeing why all of a sudden these folks just got into steam in October. Any other ideas ?

Youtubers recommending those cards and telling you to overclock them perhaps.

Lots of stupid kids are doing this all while telling you to use office pc's and calling them ultimate budget gaming rigs.

Most prebuilt mainstream PC's that offer a dedicated GPU run those models. Parents PC's that kids are playing on.

The 1050 TI in many of its variations requires no external power (other than what is provided by the motherboards PCI E Ln) which makes them extremely attractive for people who have crappy home computers that are pre-built by Dell or other companies , like prebuilt little office computers.... slapping in a 1050 TI/750ti/950ti/r9 250 and you've got a decent gaming machine even if it's a dual core I've tested it and then run GTA five perfectly playable at the proper settings w/ 8gb's ram, pentium, 750ti, But they're not built with extended gaming in mind so they don't exhaust the heat generated sufficiently. in the end, you either build a proper PC, or suffer in a buiness pc case, that has become a tomb.

It´s actually very simple....MINERS buying ALL Mid-Tier GPU´s so many Mid-budget Gamers Must chose lower-Tier GPUs instead.......

Makes me wounder how many people skip the survey, it popped up for me and i just ignore them.

People with new toys i think are more likely to agree to the surveys.

But the percentages are no surprise really as seen as they are the cheaper cards

Doesn't surprise me. Here I am stuck with a GTX 460 because the mid-range prices are simply unreasonable for the past 9 months.

I'm not paying 300 euros for a card that's going to be obsolete to me in 2-3 years. Personally it really depends on future game releases.

Enough for 1080p while keeping framerates stable? Yes. Enough for the same with graphics mods installed. No.

There have popped up quite a lot of low-budget gaming channels on YT. Somewhere before Ryzen release. I appreciate still knowing that a GTX 960/970 - R9 380/390 can still provide a decent gaming experience at 1080p.

Guess what? I only recently upgraded from 900p to 1080p just this year, because most tech is still expensive asf here. (I can already imagine me sitting depressed seeing the Cyber Monday deals in US and UK)

Though I am having 0 luck with finding any deals on the used market. Graphics cards in retail are even becoming in short supply here. Which means the prices are going to stay right where they are.

I'm losing all hope if the GTX 1070Ti is priced only slightly less than a 1080. The US MSRP price simply stopped applying in my retail ever since the mining craze started again.

I do have a question that is unrelated to this thread. Would a GTX 1080 be worth it at 500 euros? Assuming the next-gen cards are coming out in months. I just can't settle for anything less than 1070 overclocked performance, even if I will be playing on 1080p or using DSR. I don't want to get buyer's remorse again like I did with the R9 380 when the 480 came out in months which smashes it for the same price.

Some of those are still decent for 1080p. I wouldn't necessarily call them parent's PCs. At least the 1050/60 is.

Maybe just wait until the next iteration. Save your money and then go crazy then. It's almost 2018, after all.
