Razer, the leading global lifestyle brand for gamers, today unveiled the Razer Wolverine Tournament Edition, an addition to its Razer Wolverine XBOX controller line designed specifically for professional gamers. The new controller retains the ergonomic design and highly praised features of Wolverine Ultimate. Tested and validated by many of the world's best professional esports athletes, the Razer Wolverine Tournament Edition ensures the highest levels of performance and comfort.

"Razer has been great to work with throughout the development of the Wolverine Tournament Edition, taking direct feedback from our professional players and implementing it into the controller," says Alex Gonzalez, Head of Red Reserve's North American Operations. "This process has helped guarantee that the wolverine gives our players the biggest edge over the rest of the competitive scene.

The Wolverine Tournament Edition also introduces Razer Mecha-Tactile Action Buttons, which combine the soft-cushioned touch of a membrane rubber dome with crisp tactile clicks of a mechanical switch. The distinct feel of the controller makes it a unique choice for professional console gamers.

The controller offers extraordinary customization via Razer Synapse for Xbox, the all-in-one configuration software designed for XBOX ONE and Windows 10.

Multi-function buttons can be mapped to create more than 500 customized profiles to fit different playstyles for each game title. They can also enjoy the advantage of "focus" and "agile" settings to reach greater headshot aiming precision or speedy response by changing sensitivity of thumb stick movement. Lighting effects powered by Razer Chroma allow for an immersive gaming experience, and the RGB LED lighting will flash together with the controller's vibrations and other button actions. These visual settings can be customized and stored via Razer Synapse for Xbox.

The Razer Wolverine Tournament Edition is compatible with Xbox One and PC (Windows 10).

A controller is only good if you can play fighting games on it such as Street Fighter and pull off moves.
That's my personal benchmark for quality.

Playstationesqe dpad.

Uhm, actually the SNES was the best for fighting games, followed by the Dual Shock. As someone who just last weekend broke out the Dreamcast to do a little retro-esque gaming, I can say it's controller was not as good as I (or my brother) remembered. Still batter than the XBO's d-pad, that's for sure!

Some people like that style of D-pad. I'm not one of them either. I'm also a fan of the Genesis style, but I'm partial to the SNES style.

This is a bit pricey, but it looks like it has a lot to offer over normal controllers. But $130? If the D-pad feels good, then ok.

@Chino ;
Is TPU going to review it?

Dreamcast and Joysticks are the best (for fighting). Dreamcast and 360 in general imo.

Funnily, I think some of the Xbox team originally evolved from former Sega employees (or their was some partnership at one point). Their very original XB prototypes were very Dreamcast like.

(well subpar to the Xbox One classic controller also)

damn, reading this felt like someone pissed im my eyes
me too ....

Holy crap!! $500 for a controller?!?
actually 377.56$ (the price was in Aus $) US store price is $299.00 (which is not too bad compared to the original $149.99 for the standard edition

After giving away the last Razer mouse I've spent like 6 hours repairing I swore to never buy a Razer product again. But damn, they are on fire lately. An Xbox controller with a Playstation Dpad? Gimme! I'm only worried about those "mechanical" buttons, I know I'm gonna have to repair those. If it's not that complicated inside maybe I'm gonna get one...

don't give up on your first thought .... just don't buy it ... get the Elite instead... way more values, although the Dpad is not a "PS"

Ah, didn't notice that. Still $300 for a controller? Even $150 is steep as hell. The last controllers I purchased were for the WiiU and it was $40. And the PS4 controller last year was $60. Both have been very sturdy and durable. What could MS possibly offer that worth the $300 price tag? For that price it have been have the absolute finest parts and the best battery life ever seen. At least with Razer's new offering we know we're getting extra features and great battery life.

i have a Xbox One classic (~ 54chf with wireless adapter include) and it's the only worthy successor of the most perfect controller : the Xbox 360 one before that ... well i had a lot of gamepads but none were perfect as the X360 was, the XbOne is just as good (wired or wireless) the Elite, i have tested it and got sold to it right after .... next month (around 01-04.12) it's in order with the rest of my "birthday" wishlist

Both have been very sturdy and durable. What could MS possibly offer that worth the $300 price tag?
the Xbox one Elite are the finest they pack a lot of option, that even the similarly priced Wolverine has not, which make it way more worth 150$ than the later being worth 130ish, it's a tournament edition? but no customization aside RGB? ok it has the 4 additional buttons but well, when you get used to paddle that you can use other fingers than your index to reach them, it's meh... (specially fun and practical since you can also keep your thumb on the sticks/Dpad while using the 4 paddle as ABXY)
the Elite you can set the course length on the analogiques trigger, add 4 paddle button under the main frame change the Dpad and analogues stick (3 different length ) and they are quite sturdy and last a long time (even the X360 type is superior to any razer's offering in term of build quality )

For that price it have been have the absolute finest parts and the best battery life ever seen..
for the standard version it is.... / not needed for a wired controller, but with the accu pack (or like i do with 2 2000mAh accu, tho i use it wired recently) it's more than sufficient
for the Forza version: scuf paddle, "high grade material" (aka: Alcantara, carbon fiber and custom theme) and still all the options found in the standard version (granted, for me it's not worth doubling the price) and it's a limited edition (how much limited? don't know ... certainly not on the level of the "only 50 pieces, full carbon body" one )
(https://scufgaming.com/s/scuf-elite/ for the reference)

SCUF-Forza-HeaderImage3.jpg 8f4a9b96-5066-4032-b5f2-0e9fabcec71f.jpg

the "what's in" (with both version description)
In the box

  • Xbox Elite Wireless Controller or SCUF Forza Elite Wireless Controller
  • Carrying case (911 GT2 RS Carrying Case with SCUF Forza Elite)
  • 4 paddles (+ 4 SCUF paddles with SCUF Forza Elite)
  • 6 thumbsticks: standard (2), tall (2) and domed (2) (3 SCUF domed and 3 SCUF concave with SCUF Forza Elite)
  • 2 D-pads: faceted and standard
  • SCUF Forza Elite only: SCUF Paddle Hatch with Porsche Crest
  • SCUF Forza Elite only: 911 GT2 RS Certificate of Authenticity
  • USB cable
  • AA batteries
  • Quick setup guide and product manual
At least with Razer's new offering we know we're getting extra features and great battery life.

AH?!!??? Razer .... pfahahahahahahaha even the new offering is ... Razer'ish ... (btw it's a wired, but nonetheless "great battery life" is not something to associate with Razer  nor "great quality", personal experience  extra feature mmhhh more like "extra gimmick" but well that's the only thing they have in the end) for me it's more "with Razer, you know what to expect, overpriced and bound to fail in the first 6 months"

Everything you said..
Not worth $150 or $300. I can understand why you like it. But all you are paying for is some bling and a custom paint job. Those D-pads are terrible. And really, how does any of that nonsense translate into better game-play? Razer's controller has actual extra features/buttons/triggers. And not being wireless is a plus in my book.

While the Forza controller looks amazing, for the same amount of money you can get a really good wheel set with pedals. If racing is your passion that is.

Not worth $150 or $300. I can understand why you like it. But all you are paying for is some bling and a custom paint job. Those D-pads are terrible. And really, how does any of that nonsense translate into better game-play? Razer's controller has actual extra features/buttons/triggers. And not being wireless is a plus in my book.
actually the Razer one has only the Dpad and RGB that differ a bit and the placement of the extra button is not good at all.
it has 4 more button, the elite has 4 more too but they are on paddle with a different layout which enable them to be used by other fingers than index and the price tag is not much different.
if the Elite (not talking about the Scuf Forza stop focusing on it ;) ) addition is nonsense ... then Razer's solution is nonsense too (tho choosing Razer alone is nonsense ... ) does all the "addition" from Razer make it worth it over a 60$ Xbox one classic controller? not with that build ... the Dpad? mmhhh no issues with the normal cross Dpad or the one from the Elite, if i have to pay double i rather take the one from M$ the quality is here the features too.

that being said my Xbox one is wired, but can be wireless too when i want it and the Elite can also be wired (cable is include in the box iirc, while i have my own cable for my actual)

and yes the Elite is worth 150$ unlike the Wolverine who isn't worth at all the 139.99€ price tag (which translate into 165.07$ instead of the 119.99$ for me )

While the Forza controller looks amazing, for the same amount of money you can get a really good wheel set with pedals. If racing is your passion that is.
obviously yes, that make way more sense :)

Playstationesqe dpad.

The best DPAD I used was on a Genesis and Dreamcast, for fighting games.
Genesis had the absolute worst controllers ever in my opinion, pressing a button felt like hitting my knuckle on a wood desk, so clunky if that makes sense. Almost felt as bad as the buttons Atari had.
A controller is only good if you can play fighting games on it such as Street Fighter and pull off moves.
That's my personal benchmark for quality.

Controllers are not great for fighting games but it's all about what you're used to.

$120??!! Uhm, ya, no!

For that price you can buy a cheap fight stick or save up closer to $200 and get a nice one that you'll really enjoy for your fighting games. Sometimes $100 will get you a great one on a sale.
