I remember my RAM on my build was 50-65 but now I see like 135-200+

This is DDR3 and DDR4. What happened?

Supply and demand is at play here.

Demand is high because these memory modules are used in damn near everything right now. I did read that Samsung was firing up another foundry to increase supply. But with demand still increasing and supplies not being able to keep up, costs are going up. DDR3 is getting retired, so it isn't being produced nearly at the capacity as DDR4 is and has been mainstream now for years. And DDR4 production isn't keeping up with demand. Hence both are more expensive.

Yea it sucks. Price for nearly everything is sky high right. I guess when I came out of my coma God rose the prices

That too. I still have a LG G4 but still have a year to go for a new one. Being on Verizon sucks so hard

Supposedly they are firing up two new foundries but I also believe there is some price fixing in play as well. You can always buy cheap memory off of Alibaba but you may need to purchase 100 sticks as a minimum order...

Sad to see this happen and it's only gonna increase in the next 2 years predicted by alot of analysts. not only RAM is going high. GPUs are going higher because of freakin mining. and also everything else soon, apparently we will have a shortage of silicon wafers in the next few years :(

I'm not talking about full price here of course. I plan on getting the oneplus 5T. Meaning you pay a certain amount monthly

the cost of memory is the only thing stopping me from slapping a new pc build together... I cant justify spending $200 for 2 8gb sticks..

Yeah I remember back in 2015 those were good prices but now not worth it. I'm fine with 2x4GB sticks = 8GB as getting 16GB is crazy. Now back in 2015 I would but now nope

Bought 8GBx4 corsair vengeance DDR3 1600Mhz RAM for about $150 a few years back.
But today due to high prices can't afford to get a decent 16GBx2 RAM for my Ryzen built.

FYI: Prices at my location have increase ~15% in the last 5 months.

Didn't originally get really expensive due to that Fukushima nuclear plant disaster? Or some other disaster near where the memory chips were produced?

Well demand is at an all high and so is the cost of developing newer manufacturing processes and facilities to ramp up/improve production. Data centers and other non-consumer industries have priority over consumer so you can get the picture.

I'd upgrade but literally the most expensive part would be the ram.
