A better upgrade for you is keep what you have...sell the 1080 and buy a 1080ti with full block and OC it. That will give you way more performance than a 8700k...and there is no guarantee you will hit that much further over 5GHz like you have with the 7700k. Also add in a m.2 nVME 960.

Zero Dollars?? Oh well that is a no brainer. If you can get either chip and motherboard for free, then get the most expensive chip and motherboard.

But if you are counting it as zero because you are selling off your old stuff...then the same could be said for the 1080 and 1080ti. Well close anyways, not free..haha.

So you are literally getting either chip and the motherboard for free? IF that is the case then I will just bow out of this conversation. And say that the 8700k will not cost you anything but the 7820x will because it's quad channel and you will want to run quad memory if you don't want to run quad then there is no reason to go with the 7820x especially if you aren't interested in SLI.

The money that i would spend on Board and CPU comes from some hardware i sold months ago plus the 7700K and the Asus extreme motherboard.

At the end my decision was to buy the 8700K

I still haven't tweaked much except multiplier, voltage and Ram speed, last night i ran a few stress tests and play a few Games for about 5 hours and so far no crash or BSOD, max temps when playing was 37c, i don' know if i should OC dynamic or Static.

Note: the screenshot shows Vcore 1.31V but now it's 1.296V.

Me to, now I could afford finally. But how is smart NOW to pay almost 1K when Volta is few months, I mean for guys who could upgrade only every 3 years?
Poseidon or Volta. I would be satisfied with Volta Poseidon, same as Pascal.

unless you are going for a 7900x or better, there is absolutely zero reason to get anything X299. in fact, if you get any of the 78xx CPUs, you need to get your head examined by a professional.

hell, you can make an argument that there is no reason to get X299 unless you are going for a 7940X or better because threadripper is better many ways compared to the 7900x and 7920x.

all memory slots will work. Are you talking pcie lanes? Do you have any idea what he is trying to run? Unless hes using multiple gpus and multiple m.2 devices, he wont have any issue with that cpu. Just read the specs and manual for breakdowns as each board is different in how they are wired and where lanes are borrowed from.

So, literally, its plenty useful.

I suggest getting a X299 Taichi... on sale now for $300...

There's no problem , the idea is that since this is a HEDT platform unless you go up the ladder to the fastest CPUs it's not really worth it vs a 8700K.
