i consider that 6500T consume very low wattage around 30 or smth i guess while the 4560 should be around 5x and i can undervolt it to -0.15 which is around 0.83v at fulload

Get 8400 or 8300, a 4 core might struggle to keep a consistent framerate with a 1070. Get the idea of 2c/4t cpu out of your head, modern games will murder it. Even a 5GHz 4 core i5 will fall behind a locked 6 core. 4 cores without HT are no longer the sweet spot for gaming, they're stuggling big time.

https://www.purepc.pl/procesory/tes...e_i3_8350k_prawie_jak_core_i5_7600k?page=0,38

G4560-34 fps
6500-47 fps
7600K 5GHz-59 fps
8400 - 70 fps

and don't take TDP as the indication for power draw in games, more cores equals lower load on cores in gaming, 4c/4t will use more of its resources while a 6 cores will use less as the CPU load will be lower.

If you are looking for best performance, you'll be better off downvolting a regular i5-6500 or 7500.
There isn't much info on the net regarding undervolting, but from what I know you can safely cut it's power consumption by >10W at stock clocks, which is pretty much a Pentium G level.

And if your real concern is not the power, but the heat, then I can assure you that even in a small ITX case w/ discrete GPU and small low-profile cooling any modern 65W CPU is going to be absolutely fine without tweaking.

Huh? I'm confused. HTPC stands for "Home theater" PC that integrates with big screen TVs and surround sound speaker systems. You don't carry around home theaters to workplaces and coffee shops. A HTPC allows you to watch TV, record TV, watch DVDs or Blu-ray disks, listen to music, and play games.

And for that matter, you don't generally carry around PCs either. While technically, any small home-type computer is a "personal computer", a "PC" is generally considered to be a desktop or tower computer, as compared to a "portable" computer such as a laptop/notebook, tablet or smart phone.

I think you need to redefine your needs and be a bit more specific about what it is you are looking for.

complete bullpucky

utterly and woefully incorrect a quad core is fine, a hyperthreaded dual core isn't ideal but isn't not the end of the world either

most games can barely use 4 threads I can think of maby 3 that can accually utilize 6 and there isn't that much gain when they do

I was using a 6700T in my HTPC for a while. I swapped to a 6700K next to no framerate difference between them, there is a huge power difference however. I have actually contemplated swapping it back to a 6700T.

It really doesn't matter what your definition of it is. He said he wants a mobile HTPC that he can play games on. This isn't for you to question. It isn't your place and quite honestly it doesn't matter.

For 1080P at minimum I would be getting a 1060 6GB. Plenty of cards out there with silent coolers. I use a Silverstone ML08H for my HTPC, it would fit the build perfectly and you can use a full length GPU in it.

Oh but it was your place to chastise me?

And I did not question his intentions. The point I was making is the OP needs to clarify what he wants if he wants suggestions to meet his needs. Maybe he wants a fancy full tower case with a handle. Technically, that could be called a mobile case. And would support any card. But I note he also mentioned the ITX 1070, which would fit nicely in a much smaller, lighter, easy to carry around case.

We don't even know his budget. So I might suggest you stop telling people what they can or cannot say on this site. That isn't for you to question.

You know you are right

@erocker @sneekypeet @Kursah is this how we welcome questions to members into the forum? Do we argue with what they want to purchase cause they didn't use what we consider a HTPC?

you know I carry my pc around all the time ever hear of a lanparty rig ...

you realise you are arguing semantics right
Mobile case what ... I don't think I have ever heard anybody use that term in my 15 years of building
back on ignore with you

you definitely don't want to go lower then a 1050 ti tho I would opt for the 6GB 1060 Have one, even overclocked at 1440P it gets worked pretty good

I don't think I would even go with a 1050 Ti, unless the games getting played are just MOBA's and such. Newer AAA titles bring those cards to their knees. I would 1060 6GB or higher. If the option is a 1070 that would be my bet with a 6500T or 8400, heck a 1700 would be pretty dope in the rig.

The case I suggested actually doesn't even need a mini. I had a STRIX 1080Ti in it before the Vega FE that lives there now.

Here is the internals of the case (my rig) with a couple different cards inside

Full length 1070

The monster that is a STRIX 1080Ti

This is where I would suggest the lower power chip. The CPU tends to get a bit hot.

No wonder you're misinforming people about 4c/4t i5s not falling behind and games not utilizing 6 cores or more. You're running one with a 1060 at 1440p, means you're GPU bound almost 100% of the time. The OP mentioned 1080p res with a 1070. I don't wanna say running a 1060 at 1440p is ridiculous, but it's well below what people use for 1440p, which is 1070/980Ti or 1080 and you should never pass it as a recommendation for ppl running a much faster card at lower resolution.

To be honest a 1070 is under powered for 1080P. That will still be GPU bound. OP wont really see a benefit unless going with a 1080Ti or something like that.

I don't know where you get your information but you are dearly misinformed

your own link that you posted proves my point the mean difference between a lower end i3 2c/4t and a i5 is about 10fps in the absolute worst case with a cpu bound game (some titles fair far better)

secondly the 1060 is more then adequate for 1440p no you aren't going to be cranking settings to ultra but it will drive anything on the market short of starcitizen at that resolution at 60fps
do your research before posting a random link if you bothered to accually read the review you posted and do some basic math you would have seen it

the pentium sucks because it has lower clocks and less cache not because its a dual core with ht

go look at the i3 7100 vrs the i5 6600 its about 11fps in most titles despite the 6600 being clocked higher having two more physical cores and more cache

the exception is battlefield 1 multiplayer which is entirely cpu bound which its more like 15fps

the difference between a quad core and 6 pff its not even 8fps

sorry for the misunderstanding i have three main rigs at my home but they're too heavy to carry around, this rig is use for movie + film at home and esport gaming or some 1080p aaa gaming of which depend on the situations. I will carry a gt1030 just in case for low specs required games and a 50ti/1060/70 itx for gaming . I know this sound kinda crazy .........laptop or gaming laptop is not really what i want....

complete bullpucky

utterly and woefully incorrect a quad core is fine, a hyperthreaded dual core isn't ideal but isn't not the end of the world either

most games can barely use 4 threads I can think of maby 3 that can accually utilize 6 and there isn't that much gain when they do

This, any modern CPU handles gaming just fine. 2c/4t deliver 60 fps in most games. Once you OC a modern four core Intel K CPU it outperforms the Intel 8400 and AMD 1600 in practically all games.

I don't know where you get your information but you are dearly misinformed

your own link that you posted proves my point the mean difference between a lower end i3 2c/4t and a i5 is about 10fps in the absolute worst case with a cpu bound game (some titles fair far better)
First of all my link has 13 fps difference over 2c/4t, not 10 fps. Second of all, but most importantly, this is almost 40% and it's HUGE since we're talking a non-playable 34 fps vs a pretty smooth 47 fps. That's much more of a difference than 1080 vs 1080Ti so wth are you on about exactly ?

Thanks for clarifying. It seems you don't want anything too heavy. Sadly, we still don't know your budget.

Wow! I started my post by saying "I" am the one confused and asking for clarification. That's not arguing. Yet the primadonnas who love to criticize others and come in to tell people what they can and cannot post, have to go tattle-telling to the mods to whine that I was arguing? :kookoo:

And of course I have heard of a lan party. Did the OP say that's what he wanted this for? Nope. And harping about semantics then criticize the use of the word "mobile".

What a bunch of hypocrisy.

back on ignore with you
Oh, that would be wonderful. Thank you.

I'd go I3-7100, 1060 3gb.... Great for 1080p for most games....

I have a few of the 1060 3GB cards and they are fine with most games, would be better grabbing a 6GB IMO

Thats a nice case......I am curious about the temps? Can you tell us how that goes when CPU working under full load in some torture test? Also temps for GPU and the rest of the components inside?
