ID-Cooling Intros DK-03 Halo AMD Red CPU Cooler

ID-Cooling rolled out the DK-03 Halo AMD Red, a simple top-flow CPU cooler that acts as a replacement to AMD's decent Wraith-series coolers. It should particularly appeal to those who opt for models that lack stock coolers (eg: Ryzen 5 1600X, Ryzen 7 1700X, 1800X, etc.). The cooler's design consists of a cylindrical aluminium heatsink with radially-projecting fins, ventilated by a large 120 mm fan. The heatsink looks taller than that of a Wraith Spire, yet narrower, for clearance around the memory and VRM areas. A pre-installed clip-type retention mechanism lets the cooler support AMD sockets AM4, AM3(+), and FM2(+).

With its factory-installed fan in place, the cooler measures 130 mm x 130 mm x 63 mm (WxDxH), weighing about 365 g. The fan features a red LED diffuser that draws power from the fan's power supply. The fan spins at speeds of up to 1,600 RPM, pushing up to 58.4 CFM of air, with a noise output of 26.4 dBA. The cooler is rated for thermal loads of up to 100W, which means you will be able to run 95W TDP Ryzen chips such as the 1800X at stock speeds, without expecting much overclocking headroom. Available now, the DK-03 Halo AMD Red is expected to be priced around USD $14.99.

Yet a Hyper 212 EVO for $5 more will cool about 100x better. >.> I guess if your just hard mini-itx... but then your using AIO water... so... well to each their own I guess.

It's very similar, and probably just as ineffective. The best Intel stock coolers (the ones boxed with unlocked CPUs) at least have a large slug of copper in the middle to get heat away quicker. This DK-03 Halo's only benefit is that the fan seems to be 120mm, and should run quieter than 80 or 90mm fans normally used on stock coolers.

Yeah but..... the 120mm fan is strapped to a 90mm surface area. With no copper.

Not the best example when the 1700 has similar performance @stock and the cooler included runs circles around this one...plus all-the-rage-ARR-GEE-BEE

Eh, I think the Spire is better overall from the looks of things. The Spire actually has a Vapour Chamber and copper slug built in and looks better IMO.

I know you're right, but I'm sure this has the advantage of not requiring the 5 hands that a 212 requires to install. The 212 may be the most frustrating install known to mankind.

I thought I just said, its a pain in the butt to install and reinstall. It is cheap and cools fairly good for the price, and that alone is why it sells well.

Once youve played with and had to change out cpu's with an Enermax ETS-T40F you see how archaic the 212 really is.

I have had 0 issues installing the Hyper 212 EVO as well by myself. My Nocuta NH-D14 is much worse, cuts me almost every time, dang thing is sharp and no where to grip it lol

No problem, not taken personally. It's mounting system is unnecessarily complicated. I too have installed many of them.

There are many other newer ones that make it a lot simpler, and you realize CM did not make it people-friendly. At that point, you'll throw the 212 into the garbage.
