H1Z1 Officially Goes Free-to-Play Today

H1Z1 recently left Steam Early Access after three years of diligent development. A new Auto Royale game mode was also included with the final game. Out of the blue, Daybreak Games made a big unexpected announcement today. H1Z1 will be a free-to-play title starting at approximately 10 AM Pacific Standard Time. Anthony Castoro, H1Z1 General Manager, commented that their ultimate goal is to attract more players to the game and convert H1Z1 into a must-watch eSport. As a sign of gratitude to the players who purchased and supported the game from the start, Daybreak Games will be recompensate them with a special "H1Z1 Appreciation Pack", which contains a Gasrunner Hoodie, a Bloom Survivor T-Shirt, a Splinter Camo ARV, 10 Victory Crates, and 10,000 Skulls. Consumers who purchased H1Z1 recently can request a Steam refund. According to Valve's rules, refunds are only eligible within 14 days of purchase, and the game has been played for less than two hours. Even if customers don't meet the requirements, they are still encouraged to submit a request, and Valve will evaluate it.

that is indeed how it started life as. It was supposed to be a zombie survival game but Battle Royale mode was so popular they spun zombie mode off completely. Its now called 'H1Z1: Just Survive' and its full of hackers, glitchers and other sorts of nasty aids infested trash players.

Loads of complaints on steam about little to no updates and no word on anything being done with the game at all. to simply put it, Daybreak just dont care. Theyve made their money off making Battle Royale P2W from loot drops and all the other cancerous toxic gambling nonsense thats currently plaguing the gaming industry.

Why don't I pay for these games? Cause shit like this. But I also added my free game, but how long will it be free? Kinda like some of the games from Ubisoft, they were "removed" from my Origin account.

This game should have never costed anything. It was awful upon release and I couldn't believe people were paying for it. Even though it's free now I still won't play it, there are too many other games that are a lot better out there I'd rather spend my time on.

Too many developers/publishers were too quick to jump on the battle royale bandwagon. Its like all the candy crush, temple run and angry bird clones you see in the android app store. At one time these games were all the rage and that spawned a lot of copycats.

I just meant with all the bugs and lack of a care. I played it for an hour with a friend and I couldn't understand why he wanted to pay for the game. He kept playing,I didn't. To be fair I only get a few hours a week to play so I'm picky.

Well he obviously saw something redeeming in the game. Sometimes the bugs are only skin deep. Maybe DayZ proved to be too tactical for his tastes

I was excited for this game when it was announced, hoping it would end up being a "better" Dayz... then the stupid king of the kill crap came out, and killed any dream of that ever being possible. DayZ (mod) was probably my favorite game ever, now I guess I will never see that dream of a good sequel/standalone. (Of course, I've known this since KotK came out, but now this is confirmation that even KotK can't compete... so Just Survive is completely dead.)
