How does a post being qualified as "low quality"?

You are getting ahead of yourself there, as I do believe the only posts which have been tagged were done so by the administrator. Currently we (mods) are looking to him as the example to follow, and as things progress, we will have a "standard" to follow. As of this moment, it is a work in progress. Again, the point I think you are all missing, is that nothing is permanent. If you feel slighted or unjustly segregated, take it to W1zzard, as his PM box is always open.

We all know what this is about. Just act like adults and state your opinion. Name calling, rants and retaliatory responses are just a distraction from getting anything good from a discussion. I have stated something wrong before and been called names for it. I just ignore the reply and move on but some poeple go back and forth and it ruins the thread.

There was a very popular Polish forum, which was a branch of a PC news/review site. It flourished before they introduced a system of downvoting posts and displaying "user rating" next to your posts based on the +/- you recieved. Now the forum is almost completely barren, with two moderators at +5000 rating and hundreds of other users at -500/600/700 rating who completely abandoned it years ago.

is there a set guidline for deeming these poor quality posts as such (meaning they must meet a predetermined set of requisites)? Moderators are simply users with more privileges and colored usernames, so Far from beyond reproach...it seems like accountability would be a good thing on both sides here, like if their username was posted next to the window deeming a poor post, so we know who deemed it as such

To be fair, I really do think most members know if theirs is a "low quality post" before they even hit the enter key because most members who would post "low quality posts" do it deliberately anyway, I am of the belief that the "core" of our community are unlikely to post low quality, but I may be proven wrong there
I think one of the reasons W1z is considering trialling this is because there are some occasions where multiple delete posts sweeps take place because of toxic nonsense, in those sweeps members with non toxic posts who quote a toxic posts get theirs deleted in the clean-up process, sometimes this can leave well intentioned and informative threads splintered and very difficult to follow, at the end of the day, there will always be those for and against, we delete, some don't like it, we don't delete, some don't like it, we thread ban, some don't like it etc.
Whilst initially I was not a great fan of the idea, I do think it's worth at least giving it a try and see how it pan's out, there is little to lose in a trial and perhaps much to gain.

I am genuinely interested in this new feature. Does an admin decides which one is low quality and which one is not? What is the standard or rule for doing so?

I mean it is your site you decide what to do with it. I am just interested in knowing where this might lead the community of TPU towards.

I'm famous! BTW my posts generally have a humorous angle to them, but alas. Btw, this is still one of the most poorly moderated computer forums (just my opinion of course). Also, I gave up being moderator at another forum recently. It's like herding cats. It's not easy, and it's a thankless job.

Again transparency users should have every right to debate any action taken against them without fear of further penalisation

because its been my experience that more times then no mods get it wrong or just don't express the patience to process and understand why something was said vrs seeing that simply something was said and acting it on
intent it 9/10ths of the law

if you genuinely are not intending to insult flame or troll then you should not be penalised regardless of how a user/mod takes it

I'm thinking of a psychological effect of a collapsed post ... it's hidden, it's forbidden fruit so to say ... user will be compelled to click on every one of them for sure, and be sorely disappointed if it's not something controversial ... I think it's just human nature, it might as well say 'click me' ... but this could be good for TPU, it'll be like a little game

As i stated before, heat = cooked meal, you gain nothing without some enthusiasm, fire & passion.

It's what people see that will either put it in a good light or a bad one, this is where you need to be able to see 2 sides of a coin before judging, and not siding with the whiner of the month who reported the certain user in every example.

Feelings get hurt, mostly it is due to a fragile ego that people will go through with reports.

I would love a mod to come to me right now and tell me i ever used the report feature, i know i have never.

Another point though, stick to the topic, if it get's heated, it get's heated... when it becomes derogatory and personal it then is deemed unworthy for these boards.

I won't have to read through someone's strange attachment to wanting to blame everything on Trump (or some other political aspect that no one else in the topic had made any reference to that doesn't even pertain to the topic, they just want to say they hate some side of politics just to be a jerk and stir the pot) or make some snide comment towards religion. If I wanted to read crappy comments such as those, I'd sign up for a Facebook account or I'd trudge through posts you find on Yahoo news stories.

If I really want to see what those people posted, I can always click on the post and it will expand to show their post.

I don't want a post voting system either - folks will always downvote or upvote something just because they hate/like someone. If the mods are okay with going through and flagging a few posts here and there as "low quality", it won't hurt my feelings. It may even correct those people that constantly like to try and derail a topic just because they can.

On the CTS lab story, the first page has 4 "low quality" posts. All of them they just seem to want to blast TPU about their news posting methods or get some quick shot in, they add nothing to the topic and, to me, only seem to entice others to go along with blasting the OP or TPU and not actually contributing to the topic.

I can agree, at times, with what some of the "low quality" posts are trying to get through, but posting them there in the topic isn't helping. If I had issues with current news postings, I would rather create a different topic about the issue(s) I'm having in Comments & Feedback (https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/forums/comments-feedback.6/) section of the forums.

Just one suggestion @W1zzard with this possible new approach. Would you be able to make it possible to have a button to expand and collapse the "low quality" post. Right now, if I click on a "low quality" post it expands.....sometimes what someone posts is so completely off the wall that it would be nice to collapse post again so it wasn't still staring me in the eyes. Currently a quick press of F5 refreshes the screen and the post is collapsed again, so I can do it that way if a button can't be added. Just a suggestion.
