I mean did you watch the video I posted ? The comparison. The one the @bug told you to see. And did you read the OT ?
If you're not interested in ray tracing just say so cause I don't know what you're driving at. That I'm stupid for wanting to see how it'll unfold ?
And why are you so angry dismissing everything that is said in the thread probably 6 or more months before we even see the game. Don't you wanna wait before you judge ?
And technically we're both on the internet discussing a video of a game. You just said you wanna play it "at 1050p" "medium quality". None of us is in reality.

I used to be into all of that jibber jabber back in Fermi days, it's very old tech. Only now we are seeing it real time. Good luck affording the tech though, it is one game and 0.001% will enjoy it.

If it's good then I wanna be in that 0.001%.
I'm not going to judge you if you can't afford it though. I never said anything offensive to you.

I don't wanna say you're intentionally trying to derail the thread, but I won't say you're pushing it into the right tracks either.

I don't think there is any need for hostilities here.

Simple fact is, its possibly just another gimmick feature that may or may not be really noticeable and may or may not have any real benefit to it, especially since one may have to shell out a lot of money in order to be able to run it. If it comes out with such features that runs, and runs well on hardware that you may have, then it would be neat feature to enable and experience if you are able to. The problem may stem, which Recon may be trying to state is that if the tech is rather heavy on resources, and one has to pay a large amount for a specific GPU in order to play it, it may not be worth it - plus the technology behind it may not really get implement besides a handful of games due to the lack of the market available thus no one wants to spend the money to develop a game around that tech.

I look at it this way: got the capabilities to try it? good. Don't? Oh well. Most of these techs that are showcased with ray tracing, particle effects, and tessellation and what not, I just don't really pay that close attention in order to really care all too much. Yes, I want my games to look pretty, but that can be done with a lot less. I am not going to fault someone who may be interested in such tech and excited to see how it pans out in the game, especially if they can afford it. Not their problem I am too poor to afford the hardware and not my problem what they like or do not like.

I'm sure metro will look amazing on its own merits.

And why am I tagged as an Intel Processors Expert btw ? I just saw this.
I run two g-sync monitors, why not nvidia shill ? :D

Man it was talked of many moons ago now it's just appearing, would of been nice if it showed then and was perfected for PC only.

I'm glad there is now an Open Source Code from AMD on the way.

I also have mixed feeling about people that can't read. RTX is not locked up at all. Just some stuff built on top of RTX is GameWorks only. And even GameWorks runs also on AMD hardware.

That said, this isn't really news, since no card will be able to run this for next couple of years anyway :(

I don't know if it's that people don't understand or just don't want to understand. 99% of folks are still preaching that having a G-Sync monitot is the same as having a Freesync monitor. Why ? It's obviously not true and yet the myth persists. G-Sync includes a (not free) hardware module which provides Motion Blur reduction technology (ULMB) . When ya have the GFX horsepower to get you to 70+ fps, more often than not your are going to be better off turning off G-Sync and using ULMB. That option is not available on Freesync monitors but is sometimes offered, with varying success, by monitor vendors. Because these often are just as expensive as G-Sync monitors, thay haven't been big sellers and numbers have diminished. If ya want to see what motion blue reduction does, look at this:

http://frames-per-second.appspot.com/

AMD was wise to try and take advantage of this with thier Card + Monitor combos to provide the appearance of more value by suggesting that users could maybe not quite get the same performance but where certainly getting a much better value .... but it's 'not the same" if you are not getting MBR technology. I have no issue with folks going in eyes open saying that "well i won't use MBR tech anyway as Im only looking for 45-60 fps" .. that's fine. But if most games are delivering 70 fps or better, it's not the same and most users are unaware of the distinction. If you used both at 70-100 fps and don't see the value in the extra investment ? ... gain fine, all I am saying is be aware of the capabilities and make an infoimed decision.

As for PhysX, I have to agree with THG when they said essentially that if you have it, it's not like you are going to turn it off. I never saw a significant fps impact but it can be a strain on lower end cards. But the mindset that "proprietary is bad" is misplaced. If GM invents a new engine technology, spending billions to bring it to market, do you think they should be obligated to "share it with Ford" ? To suggest so is suggesting that innovation die. Why would anyone invest millions in R & D if they are obligated to share it ? Let each player in the market do what they can to improve things and let the chips fall where they may here:

http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey

When PhysX broke, I frankly was not impressed with the initial demo videos until the split screen batman one appeared. Then it became painfully obvious in the cape, explosion, curtains, debris and other effects. Once seen, it could not be unseen and you were not going to turn it off if you had the hardware.

Until we see such a demonstration, no one is really in a position to judge just how well it will work. While ya could assume now "it must be better" or "it won't mean beans" , we really have no basis yto make an informed decision at this point. GFX horsepower spent here on RT, may mean that there's not enough HP left for other stuff. The proof as the saying goes is in the pudding and until the pudding is served, there's not much to comment on. Even then, the technique will be in its infancy and it will be years before we see full implementation assuming it "sticks"

I agree, and have two g-sync monitors hooked to my primary rig, but I think you posted in a wrong topic.

btw I think having ULMB and the option of adaptive sync in the drivers in enough to justify the price of g-sync monitors and nvidia hardware, they're amazing together. In a fast parkour game like Dying Light it's a whole nother level of experience.

anyway, this will be deleted soon.

But that's the point, i actually won't.

3000 worth of GPU vs slightly downgraded visuals.. hmm i wonder which decision will win out, and graphics are not what actually keep me hooked to any game, or i would not be playing GT4 on my PS3 right now.

Read up :) And stop over exaggerating as well... Anyone using a 3k GPU for gaming has lost the plot, that won't ever change, except for that small minority jumping on each Titan release, and that minority is doing us a big favor in terms of the above bit of reading ;) News flash, that 3K Volta was never touted even remotely as a gaming GPU, unlike the previous Titans (which in reality weren't either).

NVIDIA RTX Real-Time Ray Tracing in Metro Exodus

those shadows on that fridge looked amazing xD

raytracing has been around for years.

doing it real time will enable some nice touches but on the whole it is not going to revolutionise games.

it won't have the same impact as tessellation or pbr textures did for eg. imo anyway :D

You people really didn't pay much attention to any of this.

This isn't a complete switch from raster to full-fat ray tracing. It's a collection of commands and methods to be used inside an additional pipeline stage to varying degrees. In other words , in the form that will end up being implemented most of the time , it wont drastically improve visuals and neither will it destroy performance most likely.

"why" what? Why is the technology nothing? Well, because people can save more for retirement, or real world needs, all while focusing on actual gameplay (you know, the reason we game) rather than spend thousands for extravagant lifelike graphics.

I mean why would he "have the last laugh" ? Or any laugh for that matter. I never said I got/will get a $3K Volta GPU, and if anyone else did, that puts me/you in no position to judge them.
"Real world" needs ? You mean you believe saving what is really change on your whims is going to impact anything ? That's what's laughable.
