I don't usually write on freebies, but I just had to cover this one, since The Darkness II is one of those hidden gems that I think everyone should get to experience at least once (preferably more). Humble Bundle has been having a free game party of sorts in the last few months, offering games in all directions, and some of those have been actual pearls. The Darkness II is one such, for players who want a story-driven experience. You don't just have to take my word for it - the game currently stands with a "Very Positive" rating on Steam. But yes, do take my word for it - this is a shooter (and more than that) with heart, and a story filled with heart-wrenching moments and interesting psychological outmaneuvers. Oh the asylum... If only we ever got the planned sequel...

The fact it's a shooter got my attention. I think I've seen some screenshots of it (like the above one), but never of actual in-game scene. Gonna give it a try.

I'm ok with it though =) I just grabbed the F1 freebie a few days ago after the TPU tip, and I'll be grabbing this one tonight. Thanks!

The [not] cell shading-esque graphics style has it aging more gracefully than most old 3D shooters. The shooting mechanics themselves are average imo, and it was kinda turnoff how they concentrated more on the extra limb-tearing arms than extra lead-spewing arms.

Still, it is a good game. I particularly liked the parts where that mad, occult fella explains the origins of the collected artefacts, while hating having to look for them. :|

I'll check it out, but this is the 2nd. Was the The Darkness pretty good as well?

I'd say it was better. Somehow more unique or authentic in content and gameplay. However, it is only available on Xbox360 and PS3.
