Intel began selling its Core i7+ and Core i5+ processor SKUs in the retail channel, in new box designs distinguishable from the regular 8th generation Core processor retail boxes. For those new to this, Intel late-March, launched Core i5+, Core i7+, and Core i9+ processor SKUs. These have absolutely zero processor performance differences from the regular SKUs, but denote bundles of processor and Intel Optane 16 GB cache SSDs. Among the three new SKUs available on Newegg are Core i7+8700 (BO80684I78700), Core i5+8500 (BO80684I58500), and Core i5+8400 (BO80684I58400). All three include a 16 GB Optane drive, which steps up price by about $35. The Core i7+8700 is hence $340, followed by the i5+8500 at $240, and the i5+8400 at $215.

According to newegg:
i5 8400 + optane bundle = 215$
i5 8400 + optane 16GB separated = 217.5$

What a deal...

Well you save $2.5 and get a unique case-badge that adds 0.5 mm to your e-p.

I paid an extra $3 for a better looking case badge.... This is worth it imo... As long as you were buying an optane drive

I think you missed the picture of the i9 in the O.P and did the i5 twice.
My bad if it was intentional.

Core i9+ is mobile-only. What is i7-8700 on the desktop, is i9-89xxHK on the notebook platform. Apparently you spend north of $2k on a gaming notebook with Core i9, and also choose a 16 GB Optane to go with it.

Intel thinks consumers are _that_ dumb.

It is $2.5 cheaper to buy the bundle with the better case badge, not $3 extra.

Of course, I don't know why anyone would buy this. The $30 is much better spent somewhere other than a 16GB Optane drive.

+1. The bundle is a joke and user's e-p should shrink just for self actualizing thy fool self. Unfortunately until some meaningful competition arrives we are stuck with these shenanigans.

They could not even giveaway those optane drives so now they decided to bundle them. I agree if anyone wanted an optane drive then it's good otherwise it makes 0 sense to anyone.

.....could someone tell me or point me in the right direction to show the value of optane because my searches are coming up fruitless. Intel could've just put a whistle in the box and receive the amount of gratitude from what i'm seeing..
