Video Card(s) RTX 4080

Back at Computex, AMD showed a demo of their Vega 20 graphics processor, which is produced using a refined 7 nanometer process. We also reported that the chip has a twice-as-wide memory interface, effectively doubling memory bandwidth, and alsomaximum memory capacity. The smaller process promises improvements to power efficiency, which could let AMD run the chip at higher frequencies for more performance compared to the 14 nanometer process of existing Vega.

As indicated by AMD during Computex, the 7 nanometer Vega is a product targeted at High Performance Compute (HPC) applications, with no plans to release it for gaming. As they clarified later, the promise of "7 nanometer for gamers" is for Navi, which follows the Vega architecture. It's even more surprising to see AOTS results for a non-gaming card - my guess is that someone was curious how well it would do in gaming.

The device ID 66A0 has been never seen before and is sufficiently far away from Vega 10 (687F) to indicate that AMD treats Vega 20 as a really new product and not as a minor revision. We expect Vega 20 to be used on a Radeon Instinct card first, with 32 GB of HBM2 memory and 4096 shaders, a professional workstation card called "Radeon Pro Vega 20" could also be possible, as indicated by other leaks, but I'm skeptic whether AMD really wants to put the "20" from the GPU codename into the official marketing name, going against what they used for "Vega 64".

The second card listed is Vega 12, for which very little is known. Its device ID 69A0 is also from a new, unused value range. It is rumored that Vega 12 is targeted at lower-end, mobile markets, possible to offer an alternative to Polaris. We also wouldn't be surprised to see improved power management on Vega 12, to cater better for mobile devices, which require higher energy efficiency. Please note that Vega 12 does not indicate the number of CUs (like on Vega 64 for instance), but rather represents the internal GPU codename, like Vega 10.

I hope the Vega 20 can handily beat an OC'd 1080 ti, otherwise Nvidia is going to release performance increases at a snails pace like Intel did for so long.

so far there is 2 vega 20 workstation cards, but there is plenty of IDs reserved for more workstation and maybe some gaming, i dont think personally they will make one though.. its possible but i doubt it.

Well whatever the next gaming card is called, I just hope it can beat a 1080 ti, just tying it... after so many years of waiting... just isn't going to cut it. I think they know that though, hopefully they push out some GDDR6 monster in 2019 that goes toe to toe with Nvidia at all levels of price range. ^^ then I will wait one more year before I buy, and then buy, and then be set for a solid 5-10 years until they figure out how to replace silicon. haha

Rumors say, that for 2019 the Release of the Mid-Range Navi GPUs is planned. With GTX 1080 Performance.
The High-End Navi will probably be released in 2020.

false rumors navi is coming with high end immediately i read that story and laughed hard at Navi 14 succeeding Navi 10... Navi 14 will be like a RX 650

Oh, that is good.
both amd and nvidia always made the largest chip first then released cut down versions, GM100 GP100 GV100 etc then they make smaller, Navi 10 will be the highest end Navi and its first. then the cuts, however with amd they seem to spill all chips immediately then rig middle skus in between ruining the visual naming scheme lol. Navi 20 will be gen 2 of Navi (refresh) dont expect a core increase.

my speculation and this isnt from the internet is that Navi 10 will have 6144 cores, ive stated this already in a few places. and ive seen it mentioned a few times.
i also coined Navi 96 as the sku name many times

I'm not holding my breath on this one.

Good, because it's not meant for the gaming market anyway.

And you are exhausting the supply of useless comments that add nothing to the discussion or topic ... is what I wish I could say , we never run out of those unfortunately.

Both cards scored very low. The alleged Vega 20 literally only deserves a participation award. And DirectX 11 for both tests, why?

I have no clue what Amd are upto , but i dont think Navi is the next gpu out , Im expecting a few more Vega variety's,personally and I am still genuinely happy with my Vega 64 but i think they definately need decent cooling to show good performance , And I get why they have their rep, after all I have gamed on a 1080Ti , I just doubt the detractors on here can say that of Vega ,since cooled and tuned i like them.

Vega on a proper node optimized for high performance would be much more appealing indeed.

can we finally see a card that will push a 3440x1440 144hz+ monitor?

and maybe comp for Nvidia.

This is all good stuff

I personally hope it just smokes the 1080 Ti

Exactly but no news at all of that happening?? In fact i have read rumours that is not going to happen, at the end of the day Polaris came out of the wings in good shape secretively so a 14nm++ or 12nm Vega of some kind is possible, i doubt they will shrink Vega 10 for consumers ( to a consumer priced viable node ie 12-14nm++)since they already made that sku a bit pointless with Vega 20 ,more likely the vega polaris replacement on 12nm or a 14nm++ and something upto 2560 shaders perhaps??
