Windows 10 on every compute I own. Once I used Windows 10 for a month I could not go back to 7, Windows 7 is missing too many nice features and feels ancient compared to 10. Kind of like how XP felt after using 7 for a little while.

10 or Linux. Win7 is not an alternative on a modern machine IMO.

Windows 10 for sure. 7 doesn't seem so viable anymore. I'm sure you can get it working well on a lot of machines, but hardware/software compatibility is going to continue to drop off, and security can only decrease. The security arms race doesn't stop just because an old OS falls out of use. Only one side in that conflict stops...
Old windows is kind of like a sinking ship. It gets less usable over time. Unless there's some reason why you absolutely cannot use any other version, I've always been of the mindset of starting the transition ASAP. It's inevitable that you will have to make the jump at some point. To me it just doesn't make sense to run an old OS on new hardware. The new one is designed to work with your hardware in mind. And yeah, as development goes on there can be issues, but all in all things usually work out better in the end and you get a better overall experience. The sooner you can move towards that, the better. There's a reason we move on from older solutions. You're going to have bugs and hangups either way, but the newer iteration usually offers new functionality, better security, more advanced optimization, etc.... It's kind of a necessary evil.
And honestly, windows 10 ain't bad. It's the first version of windows I've ever jumped to that didn't give me a single major hassle. As a long time linux user, I'd like to get back to some flavor of linux but honestly the fact that I haven't gotten around to it yet says something about W10.
