NVIDIA today released GeForce 399.24 WHQL "Game Ready" drivers. These drivers come with optimization for the month's biggest AAA game launch: "Shadow of the Tomb Raider," in addition to "Call of Duty: Black Ops 4" - open beta, and "Assetto Corsa Competizione" - early access. There aren't too many issues fixed with this release. Apparently it addresses a performance drop when using NVIDIA cards on a 32-core/64-thread processor, like the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX. It also addresses drivers not correctly installing on machines with ye olde Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors.

Does surround work with triple screen? I had to downgrade for older drivers.

Surround has only ever worked for 3 screens?
The previous ones I had before 399.07:s didn't work with three screens. Those 397.xx:s worked.

So much bandaid for that failed 2990WX due to overly gimped memory configuration. At least the 2950x looks to be in a better spot.

it works with two but looks like ass. literally. splits in the middle.

well there's nothing wrong with trying to squeeze more perfromance if they can even if 2990wx is not good at gaming, or is there ?

Nvidia better fix their drivers for Ryzen overall. Ryzen+Vega is much more competitive than Ryzen+GeForce.
Has something to do with scheduling, and ryzen's design is as much a culprit for it as nvidia's is, there's a performance penalty in some (very limited) scenarios.FX works fine with GeForce.

This is the result of either not being able to read reviews or the actual reviewers not taking 10 seconds to click Gaming Mode and make the 2990WX a bit better than 2700X in gaming (due to higher turbo speeds).
In all fairness, most reviewers didn't have a clue how to properly test this monster (at least for year 2018) of a CPU. Especially given its price, it is a spectacular CPU.

Doesn't mode switch require full reboot and disable half the memory channels in addition to half (or more of) the cores?

Requires reboot 16 core mode leaves all ram enables on a 2990

Game Mode on 2990WX should be 1/4-mode and 8 cores.

That's the default you can set it to 1/2 which is what I do. I also have a huge amount of cooling so I can run 4.25ghz across all 32 cores...

So what?
They say that 2990WX is a shitty processor for gaming, while it is not true. You have to restart, sure, but then you get 8 cores, half the ram but ~ performance to 2700X in games.
If you like to keep some cores you can also set it to 16 core mode and then it is as good as 2950X.

Don't worry, 2990WX is not bought by 10 y.o childs to play pubg and stream it to twitch. They are bought by people who actually know what to do with this puppy.

I wouldn't be surprised if more people got them just because. I got mine because I thought it was cool. It has zero real function in the house.

Great purchase, I kept my x58 system to play around with, There's no reason to not grab what you want when it's your money. Enjoy that threadripper haha.

Like Intel's HEDT HCC and XCC CPUs don't suffer the same problems? At least AMD had the foresight to offer and easy switch in software rather than Intel with whom you either have to restrict cores within the OS or via BIOS, requiring many clicks, just to get game compatibility? Many games cannot run and outright crash because of more than 32 threads, and AMD addressed this very nicely where Intel did nothing. I have a 7980XE sitting collecting dust and use 7900X because of this, as some of the games I paly nearly daily do not work with 7980XE.

I've been gaming on the TR 1950X for a solid 9 months now, and love it. Then when I want to switch to creative mode and edit the video I've done so easily. AMD spend more time on the user experience, and as an enthusiast, this is something you should recognize, but most reviewers miss out on because all they can see is benchmark results.

What games aren't working may I ask? I have to agree with you here though, amd has finally upped their game in the HEDT I wasn't expecting them to hit as hard as they did.

Lets start with Dirt Rally, and end with Rocksmith. there's many more, but those are the two stand-outs that I play very often. They work fine on the 1950X tho.

Interesting, It may be the fact that it's running at stock clocks (assumably)?
- that video shows the 7980xe providing better gaming performance than the 1950x, however the heat output of the 7980xe is insane enough to require a custom loop. It could also be the fact that the 1950x is running at 3.4ghz with a boost clock of 4ghz and those games may not be utilising more than 4 cores leading to the 7900x and 1950x performing better.

Uh, I think you are not understanding. These games I mentioned do not work AT ALL on 7980XE because of the core count. Clocks don't matter. These same games work when you restrict the number of cores the OS sees via msconfig, or you limit the number of cores in BIOS. Which CPU performs better doesn't matter when the apps won't even run on the CPU. The 2990X will have the same problem as the 7980XE, however, with ryzen master, you can easily restrict the number of cores via that software with a single click (change the profile), yet on Intel, this is not possible as they do not offer this function via software. This gives (to me) a better user experience with AMD.

My comment has NOTHING to do with performance, and EVERYTHING to do with the user experience. I am sure that AMD foresaw these issues with core counts, and that's aprt of the reason they offer the core-restricting "game mode" with the TR CPUs.

Had no idea it was on that scale I mean the games not even opening? That's a joke...

Some programmers simply never foresaw systems for gaming using more than 32 threads. It's not like all games are 64-bit, either. That's what makes this such a big deal...AMD is covering the dev's butt here with Ryzen Master and its "game mode", and it's not just about cache/memory latency. So if you have one of these systems, and games are giving you issues, the first thing to try on an TR rig is Game Mode... it can fix so much....
