Hey guys, i bought an HIS radeon X1950XT a few months back (around january) and its been working decently however it stays in 2D clock speeds 499 core 594 memory and when i try to loa the default 3D clocks 621/900 and run the 3d test in ati tool the system artifacts and crashes untill CCC resets the gfx hardware.. i was told that this was because of my power supply i was using a 500W rosewill with no dedicated PCIe 6pin connector however i purchased an adapter it had 26A on 12V+. so i figured i would solve my problem by purchasing a new power supply, (one of the many things i just got with my upgrade) my new PSU is a Xion Supernova 600W with 21A on 12V1+ and 22A on 12V2+.. this should have been sufficient to power my X1950Xt however when i atempted to increase the clocks to their stock 3D speeds it once again artifacts and crashes when i run the 3D test in ATI tool.. just as my old PSu did so im wondering.. does this power supply still not have the juice needed or is my gfx card faulty? i dont understand the dual 12V rails too well about how having 2 seperate rails at 20A is betetr than single at 40A but oh well. any help or sugestions would be GREATLY apreciated as i am getting very frustrated and i would hate to have to get rid of this card but im tired of it not using its full potential..

thanks

first off i would suggest removing ur drivers and running driver cleaner pro to remove traces/registry entries etc and get the latest cats (7.6 i believe) also has the perfrormance dropped in your games? run some benchies to find out and what atitool are you using ?

No the games performance hasnt really dropped from my old power supply however it hasnt increased either. im running Catalyst Control Drivers 7-6 for x64 and ATi tool 0.26 i guess what i really want to know is is 21A on 12V1+ and 22A on 12V2+ enough or should it be enoguh to power a card that requires like 36A on 12V rail an if so does that mean my card is just defective?

The power supply should be sufficient.

Still no good, same results with 0.27 Beta 2 Im gonig to reinstall windows as I should anyways since my new hardware is slightly conflicting with my windows install. i'll install CCC 7-6 once my reinstall is complete and hopefully that will help if not maybe my card is defective (just my luck) not sure what HIS's warrenty is but maybe i can get a return anyways i shall see you all soon, thanks again for you help thus far :)

Might be overheating, better cooling would help or use ATI tool just for fan controll (100%).
The memory on the 512 cards can go higher kind of unportional to gpu clock. Take the gpu down a bit and take the mem up by 10's until you get a good boot. Then test for stability, then move it 2-5 untill stable. Then take the gpu up again. then mem, etc until you get the clock you want. I wouldn't go to far without better cooling.

naw its not overheating first off its an IceQ3 cooler which are like some of the best otuer there and second when the 3d clocks are set the fan is at 70% and the temps are in the 50s
its like some stupid setting or something and i dunno what to change to make it work o.o

I had problems with ATI Tool with my x1950xtx, but I blame the card, not the software. The 1950xtx doesn't overclock for shit. I would suggest trying rivatuner and see if you have the same problems.

Did you do this in ATITool ??

And did you make the profiles and saved the volts to them ?

ok! i got everything set up and it works perfectly FINALY the results i expected from this card when i bought it thankyou very much for all you help you've made me one happy gamer =D

I also took the time to tweak a profile for Low Power and low temp and yet is more than adequate for desktop use with Windows Xp.. vista im sure is more demanding and may not perform as well with these settings

Core: 276.75
Memory: 450.00
Fan speed: ~20% (tested with IceQ3 to stay around 49c and 54c under load)
VGPU voltage: 1.045
MVDDC VOltage: 2.001
MVDDQ Voltage: 2.001
VDDCI Voltage: 1.281

using these settings as an alternative to Stock 2D will increase your cards life by taking off unneeded clocks during windows desktop usage
