I beg to differ. A clean install for every new build of Windows 10 would be a freaking nightmare scenario. Mandatory clean install twice a year? F*ck that shit. I also disagree on the drivers thing too. For the most part. I have gotten into the habit of doing it with graphics card drivers lately. Other than that though, I'm not bothering with that crap either. It's perfectly fine to update drivers without wiping the old ones(even graphics card drivers, though I don't do it like that anymore, I could, if I wanted to).

There's hardly any reason to go out of your way to install these service packs. I'm still running 1803 and have no problems with it. I've clean installed 1809 on probably 30 computers, also no problems. I'm not going to clean install my system just to get 1809 installed. I'm going to wait until there is a pressing need to install 1809 (e.g. major hardware upgrade) or Windows Update forces it on me because Microsoft is confident it has the bugs worked out.

I ended up with an install of 1803 on one disk that refuses to update to 1809 no matter what I do. So I clean installed 1809 on my backup disk. Now I need to take the plunge and use the disk with 1803 as my backup(for 1809). I'm still a little apprehensive about letting go of my 1803 install though. I don't know why. 1809 is working perfectly for me so far(knock on wood).

Anyhow...I think they're confident enough in 1809 at this point. It's not getting forced on my 1803 install yet. But you can't get 1803 with the Media Creation Tool anymore. 1809 or bust.

You are using enterprise version of windows 10, is it a 90-day trial version? I'm using windows 10 trial and this can't be upgraded to newer build just like that. You can "upgrade" by reinstalling windows 10 trial with newer build installer or maybe, as i haven't tried ever, by media creation tool.

im surprised to hear so many people are having WU issues , apparently its common, atleast not uncommon. I still havent had an issue, i think im on the most current, but i rarely pay attention, i just let it do what it does. sometimes i find i have to manually hit the "check for updates" button, but thats the limit.

im on 1809 17763.134

edit
apparently there is a newer one, 12/5 ....eh, whatever. i ran a insider PC for years, & frankly, they can keep the newest , freshest updates, often they break some driver, or functionality, basically, they suck a$$

"Activated" after 90 days you say... :p As it activates for 90 days and 90 days only but trial can be re-set up to 3 times so you can use trial for a year without need to reinstall windows.

If anyone wants ultimate performance power plan enabled, open elevated command prompt and paste this in

powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61

after that, ultimate performance power plan should become available.

Cool.

What are the differences in this performance plan versus high performance and what benefits does it give the user?

Demanding workloads on workstations always desire more performance. As part of our effort to provide the absolute maximum performance we’re introducing a new power policy called Ultimate Performance. Windows has developed key areas where performance and efficiency tradeoffs are made in the OS. Over time, we’ve amassed a collection of settings which allow the OS to quickly tune the behavior based on user preference, policy, underlying hardware or workload.

This new policy builds on the current High-Performance policy, and it goes a step further to eliminate micro-latencies associated with fine grained power management techniques. The Ultimate Performance Power plan is selectable either by an OEM on new systems or selectable by a user. To do so, you can go to Control Panel and navigate to Power Options under Hardware and Sound (you can also “run” Powercfg.cpl). Just like other power policies in Windows, the contents of the Ultimate Performance policy can be customized.

As the power scheme is geared towards reducing micro-latencies it may directly impact hardware; and consume more power than the default balanced plan. The Ultimate Performance power policy is currently not available on battery powered systems.

We’ll continue to tune and evaluate the power plan settings. To submit feedback please use the Feedback Hub and file your feedback under Power & Battery > Setting category.

Basically all power-saving features are turned off. CPU is at max possible P-state, peripheral devices always on, sleep and hibernation disabled.
Initially it was added to Win10 Pro for Workstations, but can be manually enabled through powercfg.
