Today, Intel is revealing major details about its upcoming CPU and graphics architectures to select audience. A big scoop VideoCardz landed is the company's next-generation Gen11 integrated graphics core, the first major upgrade to the company's 4-year old Gen9 architecture. According to them, a Gen11 (default GT2 trim we assume) graphics core should offer a compute throughput of 1 TFLOP/s, which is in the league of the Radeon Vega 8, with its 1.12 TFLOP/s throughput. The Vega 8 is part of AMD's Ryzen 3 2200G processor.

Raw compute power only paints half the picture, the iGPU reportedly also supports tile-based rendering. This is a highly publicized method of rendering that made its consumer debut with NVIDIA "Pascal." Also mentioned are redesigned FPU interfaces, support for half-precision FP16, 2x pixel/clock pipelines, display stream compression that lets it support 5K and 8K displays, and adaptive sync. Intel will debut its Gen11 iGPU with its upcoming Core "Ice Lake" processors that debut on the company's 10 nm silicon fabrication process.

VideoCardz are doing guesswork. It literally sais in the papers that iGPU is going 64CUs instead of 24, and that its raw power is said to double up

Is Intel still releasing Gen10 on Cannonlake at 10 nm? If so, doesn't that mean that Gen11 is more than two years away? What will AMD's iGPU have at that time?

Edit: Anandtech has a full write-up.

All the major lakes have dried up, seems like CNL will be last of its kind. I wonder if ICL tweaked is Sunny(?) Cove :wtf:

I have the 2400G, and it can actually handle games like Destiny 2 well (720p) and Forza 7 (barely). It’s what I’d call the bare minimum for IGP gaming though, so if Gen11 can only match the 2200G, it’s still going to be a slide show unless you just stick to old titles. I guess it’s still good to see things advancing.

I had the Kyro II. Great card for its time, especially for running SDRAM.

Had the blue Hercules too... for a short time thou... but still the first consumer debut wasn't Pascal...

Maybe we are just too old...

Intel HD 655 Iris Plus has 921.6 GFLOPS FP32. 16FP double rate already exist.

TFLOPS argument doesn't factor in rasterzation power, early triangle culling/triangle binning and raster read/write capability.

Nvidia Maxwell already has immediate mode tile render with L2 cache. Vega introduces it's ROPS being connected to L2 cache design. Xbox One X's ROPS has 2MB render cache. Xbox One and Xbox 360 has software immediate mode tile render.

RX Vega gfx9 family has 16FP double rate already exist while Kabylake G's fake Vega is missing 16FP double rate feature.

PowerVR has deferred mode tile render.

Gotta start from somewhere and that's not a bad start, although if current pricing continues I doubt I'll get anything powered by Intel CPU

Not a bad start, but if it is a GT2, no low end CPU will get it (and only some mid end ones), so the usual Intel IGP will be near Vega 3 performance instead of 8.

The 2400G is pretty good, really. I can run Forza 7 and Destiny 2 on it and it’s playable. Destiny 2 probably looks as good as the Xbox version. Forza 7 is not quite as nice looking, but FPS is sufficient. I guess if you played older games, it would be good enough. And for 65W, it can go in a SFF case. I’d like to see what AMD can do with 7nm here.

Ultrathin laptops? And gaming on laptops as such is often done in iGPUs. People cannot always lug some MSI or Acer gaming laptop around for multitude of reasons.
Common, dude!

Because AMD fans can't resist being harsh on anything related to Intel.. even for the smallest shit. Looking forward to them slamming Intel for making a new "dust filter" design one of these days.

And I say this a Vega owner btw.

You know, when FX was the only alternative to Core, AMD fans were quiet. Now that there is proper competition, all the blue bulls**t is obvious on plain sight. So of course, as someone who had to see high prices for years (a decade), having the option now to complain about it feels really nice. Not my fault Intel CPUs have bad value, all across the board, and that same board is useless after a year.

See my comment above about the 2400G. Eventually, one of these APUs might just be good enough for casual gamers or people with limited resources. The 2400G can do 720p pretty well, so it can only get better.

This is obviously targetting the lowest end market. What's really at stake here? These are going to go inside short lived machines... be it AMD or Intel. It doesn't have to be a dick size contest.

Well, if the past is any indication, I think AMD will get their fair share of this market (and then some). But I think it'd be good if any casual buys either one and moves away from consoles.
