Bethesda had concerned a few people last year when they had announced most of their new games would be available on the PC platform only via their own store and launcher, at least initially. People were quick to speculate whether this was Bethesda wanting a bigger share of the pie than Steam would allow, which is hilarious in hindsight with everything Epic Game Store related since then, and also whether this was because they were worried that Fallout 76, the first of these games affected by said decision, would have generate refunds galore on Steam as a result of bugs, bugs, and more bugs. Today Bethesda took to social media to make good on their promise, saying that all their upcoming games will be simultaneously available on both Steam and the Bethesda Store, including Rage 2, Doom Eternal, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, and Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot.

Interestingly, it will still be a while before Fallout 76 will make its way on Steam, which does not help its cause as far as far as having a depreciating player base goes. The move in general also plays into the larger dynamics of PC game stores, with game exclusives suddenly becoming a valid point of consideration as the competition from Epic Games heats up. It is also interesting to see how few complaints there are online of how these games are not available on, say, the Epic Games Store, or Discord, or GoG, and points further to the loyalty-factor of the populace complaining about exclusives on PC game stores in 2019.

Bethesda, you should offer the games at a discount on your platform (10% off) what Steam sells it for. Some people will keep a few bucks in their pocket and buy from you, others will spend a little more and go with Steam.

I don't really have a position on where a company sells a game....I just think it's crummy when they pull the rug out from everyone (see issue with how Metro Exodus was handled).

I have a bigger beef with Bethesda's current run of games, which will probably be why I have no desire to want nor look forward to what they're releasing - on any platform:

I didn't really like the first Rage game - very underwhelming overall.
I wasn't a fan of the 2016 Doom (just a single player arena shooter for the most part, non-stop running, jumping and shooting.
I tried really hard to get into Wolfenstein The New Order....I just couldn't do it so the new Wolfenstein's they offer don't interest me
Fallout 4, while it was a decent FPS, it's still not Fallout and what Fallout 76 offers, I wouldn't touch it with someone else's money.

Any single player game, I'd personally like to keep it on GoG or have a key for GoG if the game is offered on other digital locations such as Fanatical, GMG or HumbleBundle. I won't buy off Discord (I greatly dislike the site overall and I have no desire to support it) and I won't have a 5th gaming platform/launcher on my computer so I won't install EPIC's launcher and purchase from them.

As long i don't have to use their launcher that uses 500-800MB RAM for doing nothing in the background they can use any proper platform.

They must have analyzed the numbers and realized far less sales than expected.
They cannot stop the refunds when the game is BAD.
And nobody is gonna refund a GOOD game.

Proved Bethesda store is a joke, nothing more.

Fallout 76 was a dumpster fire, so I don't think moving to Steam would make any difference...
After playing Wolfenstein SJW aka TNC it was such garbage I won't be playing another game with that name on it.
Rage was a major snoozefest for me so no Rage 2 for me.
I'll probably be buying Doom Eternal, I like the 2016 one even though its an arena shooter. But I won't be buying at launch day.

LMAO, so finally Beth swallowed their pride and accepted that nobody wants Yet Another Game Launcher - especially one that has zero incentives for players to use it. Good riddance!

About time. I'd rather have everything on steam compared to having about 5 different junk clients from Beth, EA, bliz, etc.

That said, GoG is better than the above.

As for Failout 76, it will just get very bad reviews on steam and that'll be it.
They just try so scam more $ out of it but it's a failed project and there's nothing they can do at this point in a sufficiently small time interval. There are just too many things to fix in it.

I knew sooner or later this would happen, not because Bethesda has a separate launcher, but because Bethesda couldn't pull their heads out of their asses to make it a functional launcher (some issues persisted for years).

Loved rage, gonna definitely get rage 2.
Yep, waiting on that one more than any other game from this list. I've recently put in around 60 hours into RAGE doing an achievement-hunting run. All I have left is multiplayer stuff, which is kind of impossible to get now.

It is also interesting to see how few complaints there are online of how these games are not available on, say, the Epic Games Store, or Discord, or GoG, and points further to the loyalty-factor of the populace complaining about exclusives on PC game stores in 2019.
If you are referring to Metro Exodus outrage, then you should've noticed one big difference: Bethesda did not pull the rug from under our feet 2 weeks before release, they gave us a heads-up about their initial intentions.

Everyone here is acting like Bethesda is doing something radical or new, are we collectively suffering from memory loss? They've had their content on Steam since day one.

This isn't even news, it only is because some idiots think Steam releases are a hot topic now. Those people will probably harp on 'muh platform' with every game release on any platform ever that isn't Steam. Get a room or something.

Valve did make their revenue model more friendly to multi-million dollar selling games. Fallout 76 may also have done poorly because of being Bethesda Launcher exclusive, if memory serves. The two combined made abandoning Steam a mistake.

Honestly only doom eternal holds any interest to me. Fallout 76 is a dumpster fire MMO, RAGE 1 was just plain boring, and after Wolfenstein SJW edition, I cant really hold any excitement for Wolfenstein: even more forced politics and Wolfenstein: the tired 4th wheel.

Now, Doom eternal, Doom, and Wolfenstein the new order on GoG would get me excited.

Bethesda's games aren't good enough lately to warrant another launcher. Metro Exodus was right on the line for me where I almost caved. Outer Worlds is a must have, and Cyberpunk 2077 will be a must have - getting OW on Microsoft store (since i already own a bunch of stuff there) but if one of those games was releasing on an exclusive store I would have to buy it then complain endlessly on internet forums.

Posted in another topic, but still... I'm really enjoying this 'launcher'...

Playnite. Free, puts everything in one place, can deal with all launchers and you can add folders/separate applications too.
https://playnite.link/

Now, add Discord and you have your friends/chat/community stuff sorted out as well, Nexusmods for your modding, and you can stop complaining about Steam altogether and not suffer some weird self imposed exclusivity that limits your choices above all else.

This is good news. Doom 2016 was great so I can't wait for Doom Eternal. I still have RAGE on my backlog so I dont know about that. I couldn't care less about Fallout 76.

Whoa, you're pretty grumpy!

"some idiots" + "hot topic" = news, as in people wants to read about a hot topic.

So if I have a complaint about any platform, other than Steam, I am "some idiot" and should get a room...really? With whom? Why all the anger?

I think you're missing the context... not grumpy at all, just a bit tired now to see a daily news item or five about 'what games are exclusive or not' to whatever platform. And the context is of course Epic Launcher hogging all the good stuff lately, and a vocal minority being... very vocal about it.

Half a year ago a Bethesda or anyone's release on Steam would not have been worth a mention. Today its a headline for no apparent reason, because really nothing has changed, (timed) exclusives are as old as gaming itself. So basically, the topic isn't quite that hot at all.

It almost seems like wasted effort and resources. And honestly if it didn’t take off, don’t keep both avenues open.

Thing is they've made little to no effort to make any improvements to it. I think they added "category/filters recently because people have SO many games to sort through on it. I mean it doesn't even have a friends list yet my User Name is in the Top right with a little green circle with Online....Thanks Bethesda I never would have known without that!

Did anyone watch any trailers for Rage 2? I did not get the impression it will be a serious game like the first one was. This seems to be the laid back slapstick MMO style of Borderlands. IDK, I hope it's just promotional material and not what the actual game is like.

Did anyone watch any trailers for Rage 2? I did not get the impression it will be a serious game like the first one was. This seems to be the laid back slapstick MMO style of Borderlands. IDK, I hope it's just promotional material and not what the actual game is like.

Don't worry, you're not the only one that got that kind of feeling from seeing the original teaser videos released some time ago for the game. Honestly, it looks down right stupid. I could be wrong, but what I've seen, it's very off putting when compared to the first game.
