@storm-chaser if you can extend the budget to 220 get the 1660,if not get the rx570.

if you're okay with used then 1060,980,580,570 - any of those, depends of the condition.2nd hand radeons can be a trap cause so many are ex-mining,some of them are flashed with bad bioses, some are barely usable.

for your system I'd go in that order
1.rx570-perfect match for your cpu, banging price, ideal for using in 2014-16 shooters
2.used 1060 (or 580 if you're sure you're getting a 100% good product)
3.1660

do NOT buy a 290/290X,a rx570 will is faster, newer and draws less power.

I'm going to buy brand new. I've heard to many horror stories about the used video card market and therefore lost the confidence.

Okay, that's gonna be my pick... the RX 580. Link (same as above)
https://www.ebay.com/itm/MSI-RX-580...423?_trksid=p2349526.m4383.l4275.c10#viTabs_0
Save yourself some money and go for a used card like the following;
https://www.ebay.com/itm/MSI-RX-580-Gaming-X-8GB-RX580/153441482955
Does a boxed up video card like this include the 8 pin power connector or is that something else I'm gonna need to purchase?
No, you'll need an adapter like the following;
https://www.ebay.com/itm/6pin-6-2-8...wer-Cable-Cord-Wire-Adapter-PCIe/123701513934
Or
https://www.ebay.com/itm/DUAL-6-PIN...-CABLE-NVIDIA-GOOD-8-10-OVER-ALL/323618263913
Or
https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Dual-4-Pin-Molex-To-8-Pin-PCI-E-Adapter-Cable/140479839705
Which one you need will depend on the connectors you have available.

Oops, missed that post... LOL! Still, if you buy from a reputable seller(100% feedback or close to it) like the one above, the chance of problems is minimal.

1) Thanks for the intel but it looks like my PSU already has the PCIE 8 pin power adapter built in so we are good to go
2) Yeah going brand-brand new with this. As I said, just one to many horror stories. Plus its fun to unbox new stuff :)

Brand new? That's some deal you got there!
Yes brand-brand new. As seen in the picture above, still has the original wrapping...

The seller has pretty good feedback overall and has sold lots and lots of these cards. All the feedback is good on these video card transactions, so hopefully there is no funny business going on.

Make sure there is moneyback guarantee.

I also help with bios restorations.

Best part you can learn how to use Polaris Bios Editor and compare other MSI bios files to tune yours let alone other brand cards to see what can be tuned

With the right GPU I will have this rig for many years to come. Not selling my Phenom II anytime soon.

Plenty of good FPS games I can choose from in the 2013-2017 years: the Phenom II is still a beast.

And as KOS mentioned, If I buy it now, I wont have to later.
As much as they are totally uncompetitive in most segments, an RX 570 will be the most that you will be able to use if you're going for new cards.

He bought a RX580 MSI Gaming which can be handled by Socket AM3/AM3+.

Even a Radeon 7 or 1080ti can be ran...

Not bad :toast:

Though I rarely get my graphics cards new, so I consider my used R9 290 DCUII a better deal, 70 euros including shipping. :rockout:

Can anyone recommend a few good GPU benchmarks for me to run?
I would like to get a baseline comparison with my GeForce 740 GT in terms of frames per second.
Yeah I know, the 740GT is going to bomb out, but I'm still curious to see the results.
I have heard this card is a bit louder than some of it's Nvidia counterparts. If so, is there anyway to adjust fan speed manually?

nvidia is a bit less CPU dependent. I would go green with that Phenom. I would pick up a GTX1060 as max for this setup. The older like 980 work fine but also are more power hungry.

Just make sure you get the 8GB version and have at least 12GB of system ram to get the most out of such a setup. Out of curiosity, what Xeon are you running?
To late now, I already pulled the trigger on an AMD GPU!
And you got a good one.
