Microsoft today officially released Windows 10 May 2019 Update (version 1903). Distributed in a regionally phased manner over Windows Update, and on-demand through the Upgrade Assistant tool or downloadable as fresh installation media, Windows 1903 is the year's first major update. It adds several user-interface improvements, such as a more functional Start Menu, a vastly improved search system, a more functional Action Center, handy new features to Explorer, and several under-the-hood improvements. To gamers, it introduces support for standardized variable-rate shading in Direct3D games and applications, which when implemented correctly, can vastly improve performance and details in games.

In case you want a direct download of the new ISO, which is available at Microsoft:

I've never gotten that to work for some reason on my computers, and the tablet pauses any MS download when it reaches about 50%.

Well duh but on my computers the method you described has never worked for me,no matter the browser. The page just won't load. On tablets you get directaccess to the ISO, but that bugs out too.

I just made a Windows 10 USB install stick last night for 1809. Guess I'll go wipe it and start again tonight with 1903 on there instead...

You're supposed to be able to get this by simply checking manually for updates. Probably won't work in all regions yet, but if it works for you, it's easier to go that route.

Anyway, it is worth noting that the feature updates will be pushed in a less "agressive" way. Slower rollout to automatic updates, and even if you search for updates you have to choose to download and install the feature updates specifically; will be seperate from other updates.

You are probably downloading to a FAT32 formatted medium frick. That would limit file size in general to 2GBs.

Because sometimes the media creator *doesn't* work perfectly. It can be very temperamental.
I've used the media creation tool since existence, I have downloaded a plethora of windows releases in two languages and never had an issue.

Issues that comes to mind:
- something wrong with your system
- you are not using it on a genuine windows version

You may have to fresh install. My main rig has refused to upgrade with every iteration of W10. It will only fresh install. It’s part of the reason I purposely remain a year behind.

Other W10 rigs in the house do upgrade just fine, both home and Pro.

I've used the media creation tool since existence, I have downloaded a plethora of windows releases in two languages and never had an issue.

Issues that comes to mind:
- something wrong with your system
- you are not using it on a genuine windows version
I've used it across several different PCs of my own, all of my windows versions are genuine and validated, I've used it on other people's PCs and I've generated USB keys for home and pro versions of windows.

It does usually work. It is not infallible. For one thing it absolutely LOATHES one of my USB thumbdrives and absolutely will not write to it, forcing me to use it to download to .iso and use rufus instead. (Which is honestly fine, since rufus is much faster than the media creator anyway and allows the user to specify whether they're creating an MBR or a GPT install media). There is nothing wrong with the drive, and nothing wrong with any of the 3 machines it's done this across. The media creator simply does not like this particular thumbdrive.

I've also encountered issues wherein the media creator either downloads much more slowly than it should or simply doesn't work properly during periods where microsoft are having issues. On those occasions I've used a linux partition to download the iso file directly instead and been just fine.

There's no need to defend the media creator. Nobody said it was useless. But it definitely is not a perfect piece of software and the availability of an alternative without having to trawl sites of dubious trustworthiness, is good.

Personally I'm still disappointed that Microsoft stopped doing this sort of thing for old windows versions through digitalriver too. That was a really nice resource if you needed to quickly spin up an older version of windows in a VM or on a retrobuild, without trawling for your install media.

I just remoted into my plex server and Windows 10 says it needs my help to update to the next big change (or something like that). Then it gave me a few options to pick from:

1) Proceed
2) Pick a later date
3) Snooze

I clicked on option 2, "Pick a later date" and I got zero prompts or pop-ups for me to pick a later date. I think I hurt Windows' feelings.

All I know is that I don't really want to do any major upgrades since 1709 obliterated itself and it required me to just format and re-install Windows and the last big update (1809, I think) installed just fine. Right now I'm 50/50 with updates going well or outright blowing up Windows. I'm in no hurry to have to find out if it fails and re-install is needed or if it works.

How to disable Craptana for good and also new Telemetry settings?
Also, after applying this it looks like the CPU patches for Specter, Meltdown and other craps are also applied too. A quick test in some of my games shows a FPS reduction of a couple of frames, so can anyone please advise how to remove those unnecesary "security" patches (for me)
please?

Thank you..
