Intel China through its Weibo (Twitter-equivalent) handle put out more official-looking renders of its Xe graphics card. The Weibo post doesn't cite an author, leading us to speculate that the company's industrial design team is close to finalizing a product-design for at least the client-segment derivative of Xe. The swanky-looking card apparently has a stamped metal cooler shroud, a cooling solution that's based on a fin-stack heatsink that's ventilated by three fans, and quite some LED embellishment. An interesting design detail is the exponent symbol projected on the center fan. The power inputs are located at the tail end of the card, which is where most professional graphics cards have them; and consist of a pair of 8-pin PCIe inputs. Display inputs include three DisplayPorts, and an HDMI. The first Xe graphics card bound for 2020 will be built on Intel's 10 nm silicon fabrication process, which offers comparable transistor-densities to current 7 nm nodes.

Looks nice.
Great with more competition - hopefully will result in lower consumer prices, for all brands, if it can deliver some performance vs competition.

Really hoping this fan-fantasy made render won't make it as a reference design guidance. This looks hideous from engineering, design and just about any other aspect of GPU-making.

This whole fan-made ego-trip Intel is having with its Xe GPU's is very silly, and they need to ground themselves up and get reminded that they are entering a market they previously tried and have failed to do, several times in recent years.

Take it easy, and show us what the tech can do next year instead of having this whole odyssey ordeal. This campaign looks like a kickstarter promotion to a product that does not exist more than anything else at the moment.

Lol, if Intel flops again, at least I will gladly take such design in my tiny GPU collection. But yeah, from standard viewpoint, it looks like we have entered 2100 and humankind colonized few planets and our PCs are jetpacks attached to a case and GPUs with ultra lightspeed performance. Great for eyes (as a collectors item), especially RGB vomit fans, but what performance lies underneath will probably suck.

but too showy for an official non aftermarket cooler imo.
The old concept render was just showy and business enough for me

also would it not have been funny if they just had 3 Intel stock coolers side by side with some heatpipes underneath connecting them :p

"what do you think graphics cards will look like in the next decade? How about the next decade and a half? Intel wanted to know that as well, so it commissioned designer Cristiano Siquiera to give us a taste of what graphics cards might look like in the year 2035. Siquiera, the original talented designer that brought us the first set of Intel Odyssey GPU renders not long ago, focused primarily on the fan/shroud designs, and what innovations could be fostered there in the coming years.
According to Intel, it is not committing to bringing any of these designs to production, but it is hoping to incorporate some aspects based on feedback from the enthusiast community. According to Intel's Ari Rauch, Vice President for Graphics Technologies and Products, good design can't be done in an internal vacuum; it needs to be a collaborative effort with external input. "

this is just hype building concept designs just like car manufactures do on every show, so yeah, this is not the card.

LOL. I'm sorry but I really cannot take Intel seriously. What the actual f*ck is he saying now? That a designer needs to crowd source for ideas or it can't be good? Is he drunk?

Or is he referring to Intel's CPU security design? *woooopsss*

This one though, never mind airflow, but.... o_O

well nah, its kinda like Gamers Nexus's computex vids, telling the viewers their comments matter for the manufactuer. Manufactures show halo products to draw some media attention and display concepts and ask the people if they would like something like that so they know if its worth making.

this is no different, Intel just hired an artist to envision some futuristic or so gpu designs (I mean sure, when you think about it it makes no sense at all ot have big cards like this in 2035....) to attract some media attention and indeed some comments from people on some design choices they would like.

could even be something as simple as having the power connectors in that forward facing position.

Intel, nobody gives a flying f**k what your graphics cards look like, we care about how they perform. And given that you've been suspiciously tight-lipped on actual performance numbers, plus you're using a power config that is good for up to 375W, I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that this product will be even worse than AMD's rehash of a rehash of GCN.

On the plus side, at least AMD GPUs will no longer be bottom of the charts in performance and power consumption.

I'd like to make two points here. The first is relevant to the renders, the second is about this forum. :)

  1. It looks like the Intel community managers have crowd-sourced the design from the fanbase, and they came up with this tricked-out, gaudy monstrousity. I'm sure someone took inspiration from Tron.
  2. I've never seen a comment section so ... sensible and united on what should be. Seriously, have I entered the Twilight Zone?
