Ubisoft posted its FY2019-20 financial report recently, and made a very interesting disclosure: PC has surpassed PlayStation 4 to become Ubisoft's most revenue-generating platform. For the quarter ending June 2019, PC accounted for 34 percent of Ubisoft's "net bookings" (a unit of sale of a product or service). This figure stood at 24 percent last year. With PC at 34 percent, PlayStation 4 takes the second spot at 31 percent, Xbox One at 18 percent, and Switch at 5 percent.

The surge in revenues from PC are attributed to "Anno 1800" and the UPlay application that rivals Steam in providing direct sales, DRM, updates, and social networking for gamers. "The 34 percent was pushed by Anno, which is a PC-specific game, but even with that launch, we had a very good performance on PC overall," said CEO Yves Guillemot, in the post-results investors call. "Anno 1800" is distributed both on UPlay and Epic Games Store. Ubisoft will be pushing out two expansion packs for "Anno 1800" this year.

Every time I turn around it's more good news about the health of PC gaming. For PC revenue to take the #1 spot over PS4 with Ubisoft is indeed an achievement.

yep this is great news, not to mention 90% of all Ubisofts titled got cracked rather quickly too, this just proves pirating doesn't hurt as much as they say.

Ubisoft started having good sale discounts, and providing games people want, and less invasive DRM. all wins. and the Uplay client is very smooth and causes 0 issues in my experience.

Been awhile since you tried Uplay, huh? That’s about the only way you could make that statement.

And...let’s get sad/mad about news that helps counter the “PC gaming is dying/declining” people.

I mean, did you guys read the article? Not a single ubisoft multi platform game is selling more on PC, it was Anno 1800 wich is an EXCLUSIVE (and an outstanding game btw, goty material).

A platform exclusive and sold through Uplay and EGS. And I think we can agree people are more inclined to use Uplay than EGS at this point in time. One is already installed/familiar, the other is not. Even so, in relation to the comment you replied to, nobody is talking about the games, but rather, the stores.

The real message here is 'exclusives work' and 'good content sells'. Not really that new ;)

Still need to take a look at Anno, totally went under my radar because previous installments were rather boring rather quickly.

It is an amazing game for sure and I´m not surprised by this a single bit, considering also that it never got cracked too. So a win win situation.

As for the store, I´m not a fan of ubi, I would prefer everything on the same store, but it is what it is, I just stop all those stores from starting with Windows and it´s fine, no unecessary ram usage or background stuff.

I stopped playing since the Anno 1404, I lost interest in the following, but this 1800 managed to get me addicted again into the saga.

It gives a lot of Anno 1404 vibes, a fan favorite, so it's no wonder the game is selling so well!

This sounds great until you consider that console gamers are out enjoying summer while PC gamers are still inside avoiding the sun, sex and other people in general.

This article could have been titled "Introverts choice of gaming platforms excels as years social season begins"... Lol

For most that may be true, but actually I bought it from EGS intentionally :) (as I will keep doing with all future releases if price is equal across stores). Some of my favorite recent comment sections have been the Steam community in their uproar over EGS, so now I support them every time I can haha. I think I may have said it before, but I'll say it again...+1 to your Playnite recommendation. Nice to just go to the stores to buy games, not launch them. Friends list on Discord works just fine.

I am not at all surprised by this. Uplay has quietly turned into my favourite platform. Not because of any differences in the layout of the site but because of what it does. If you have any of their series games like Assassin's Creed. Once you get the new one Uplay will give you all of the previous copies for free. There is also a ton of DLC available for a game that anybody who bought an AMD product until recently got, Division 2.

I don't know if I'd say it's my favorite platform, but I do wish more platforms adopted their Uplay points-system thing. Gettings points for achievements which you can then use for in-game items (and wallpapers/soundtracks etc)? It makes perfect sense and gives you a tangible reason to try for those achievements. Origin clearly had similar plans but they've done nothing with it. Steam, well, I won't hold my breath for them to implement a similar system. Hopefully Epic does something similar in the future too.

PC always pulls ahead when consoles are sunsetting and then consoles surge back when a new one debuts. This is a rain-is-wet kind of thing.
