AMD Ryzen CPUs to Get Plenty of Microcode Improvements

According to Planet 3DNow, owners of AMD's Ryzen CPUs will receive a new microcode update said to feature many performance fixes and improvements that bring additional features. Dubbed AGESA 1.0.0.4, the new microcode improvement should bring over 100 new features that don't just include bug fixes, but also additional features.

Leaked by MSI's "Insider Show" YouTube series host Eric Van Beurden, he revealed that new microcode will arrive next month after getting tested by motherboard manufacturers for stability and compatibility with existing models of motherboards. Unfortunately, Van Beurden didn't reveal anything specific about what features will be present with the new AGESA microcode update, however we can expect to see plenty of new additions, and possibly higher CPU performance that further firmware optimizations bring.

The MSI X570 Gaming Edge Wifi has had a new beta for a week. Might be that one. Haven't seen anything newer than ABBA for their other X570s.

Kinda cool, just im still at if BIOS aint broke, dont fix it - kinda state of mind.
Wonder if its worth the risk.
Looking forward to next month:)

Either way, I don't believe even over 100 fixes, let alone 100 new features.

Probably 100 ”items”. Note that these probably can be pretty insignificant.

I know! But the number seems overly excessive no matter what it is. I'm really curious about changelog(s).

...or that we were held on those features from zens first release as a back up strat for Intel going "cores deep" ;)
not first and not last time when big companies sit on tech :p

I am still waiting for the BIOS update on my B450 for the last Agesa update ABBA, this sounds promising though. I am happy with my Ryzen set up since I got rid of the 5700XT, still hope I can go full AMD at some point like the good old days :D

So this update is only for the 570 boards or i can get one for mine 470? If it is going to improve older Ryzen CPUs I'd like to try it out.

Really, read the changelog before cramming in a bios update in there.

"Fixed a typo here and there" :)

I really don't know if its wise for AMD to be all happy about microcode updates to Zen. They should just let the updates speak for themselves once they're released. Its not nice to keep having the idea your CPU is not performing optimally. Because that's inherently what these updates tell you. Agile release trains for hardware... yikes

It is a Bios update and what i dont know is if 470 boards get it as well. I think I'm not cramming in on anything here.
Agesa is a part of the Bios motherboards are using. Or I didn't get you at all.

It would be great if B550 would launch with this microcode version. It would cut down on some confusion/guesswork.

These firmware updates, they're at BIOS level right?
Or is it possible to update a CPU itself?

MSI talking about AGESA 1.0.0.4 ... they haven't even released the 1.0.0.3 ABBA for my (not so outdated, still high-end) MSI X470 Gaming Plus. I'm banging my head why I switched brand with my last purchase when all AMD and Intel boards from the last 17 years (except one ASUS P5Q Pro which died after 5 years) were Gigabyte and I never regretted having them.
I know their GPUs are good, but it's the first and last motherboard I'm buying from MSI.

Just checked, Gigabyte website, the roughly equivalent X470 AORUS GAMING 5 has the 1.0.0.3 ABBA released on 2019/09/12, while MSI released BIOS version 7B79vAE which just mentions "Improve memory compatibility" but is still 1.0.0.3 AB :(

Correct me if I'm wrong, the BIOS description only says:
Code:
X470 GAMING PLUS (MS-7B79) V10.E BIOS Release
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. This is AMI BIOS release

2. This BIOS fixes the following problem of the previous version:
- Improve memory compatibility

3. 2019/9/11

My MSI B450M Mortar has ABBA since 20. Sept. :) It'll go into my secondary rig because I just got the AsRock X570M Pro4 and am happy with it in my primary. But considering most Gigabyte 4xx boards are supposed to be terrible, brand loyalty is a pretty stupid thing to have.
Also, maybe update your system specs. :D Or is this a second or third system of yours?

Yeah need to update the system specs, I bought a new system and the old works as a secondary PC now, just moved the 1080 to the new one. Still waiting for ABBA BIOS from MSI, then will consider the new PC 100% working and update my system specs.

Same here, still waiting on MSI to release ABBA BIOS. Other manufacturers did it in the first half of September, MSI is still lagging. It's been a month since AMD released the new AGESA.
Regarding the "classic old time rig", I've always had AMD CPU + Nvidia GPU and now I'm back to that :) (Ryzen 3700X + GTX1080)

I have a feeling we I'll only see the 1.0.0.4 update on my mb but I am ok with that.

Why did you drop the 5700XT, out of interest? I have both RTX and Navi and I'm trying to work out which one to keep.
