NVIDIA's Lightspeed Studios Aim to Remaster Games With RTX Effects

Actually there are many multiplayer games from years gone by that I would like to see re-done, because they can't just fix the graphics, they will have to fix the rest too, compatibility with windows10, multiplayer servers and the like, many of those games still had lots of life left in them when the servers went dark.
Well I don't, I want shiny new games with new tech and new adventures, I'll accept some may like this sort of thing but I personally don't believe they are in the majority here.
Rather it's a niche for a niche that's going to take major man hours if quake is indicative.
If Nvidias paying i have no major issues with this, just I won't be partaking, I'll be playing new games on new tech.

I genuinely hope this pleases some since the games Rtx support is not good enough and I think those early beta testers out there deserve this and more.

FOR FREE, no further charges , no repurchase ,since the premium on those RTx cards is not insubstantial.

Is quake Rtx the new pubg, no.
Pointless IMHO ,im here for new adventures not rehashed ones that are identical in all but graphics at a rereleased higher price.

Clearly their Dev outreach for RTX is not doing well, they do say if you want a job doing do it yourself but a hardware company rehashing games is a step too far.

With this and their Gsync affiliate program they're nudging themselves further into my sin bin.

I don't know what the problem is. No one will force you to buy the games.

There's a whole community of retro gamers, just because you don't like it, that doesn't mean it shouldn't exist or it's not worth improving some old games.

Some people like to go back every few years and replay the classics. I am one of them. I sometimes go back and replay games from the late 90s and up.

Remasters almost always cost something to get because a Studio has to spend money to Develop them and they at the very least need to recoup that investment. A nice profit would be welcomed by them as well.

I do share your opinion that RTX cards are overpriced. I can't prove it and I've yet to meet someone who could but I believe that they are overpriced. Nvidia has been getting away with it since the GTX 680. An upper midrange GPU selling for $500

I've got the same remade version. For some reason it got pulled from Steam and GOG. The only way to get it now is to buy it on DVD. That's too bad. Escape From Butcher Bay was a really good game
I had picked up physical copies of the games years back, still got them packed away in a box....I didn't even know they were available on Steam/GOG at one point. But years back I tried finding physical copy of games over digital, I just liked having the physical copies more.

I would like to so MDK and MDK2. It will look awsome when the worlds smallest nuke explodes :)

Edit: and make it DXR so every GPU can run these games when intel and AMD support Raytracing.

HL1 with Raytracing on an intigrated GPU :D

good call !

sure bring back some memories ! The stoopid sidekick AI either stuck on some random floor objects, or giving you some friendly fire when you need it the least.
Having to guide them along without getting them stuck was part of the challenge .

I would play the original max payne, or mass effect with rtx in a heartbeat.

This is such a good Resurrection of potentially amazing IP.

I will not play Alien isolation with RTX.too damn dark.even without ray tracing tech , game still was horror.perhaps one of best.it took me almost one week to complete mission.

It's a valid point.

On the dev payment side ,this is a fair point but I have not seen a fair price point for sale yet so it's hard not to judge sternly, they're wages are paid bu Nvidia.
And Nvidia benefits because they're tech gains legitimacy and more use.

Im not being hard balled by a company into their way or not at all ,any company, I'll do something else.

And let's not forget these Devs could have been carrying on doing this sort of thing anyway but with no overlord dictator who insists on his murky path alone and no cut to the bigger guy's from revenue.

As the owner of an RTX card, I can say that this seems like a waste of time other than to pad the games list. The vast majority of RTX owners like playing new games, that's why we bought such expensive cards. Whoever does download these games will most likely treat them like demos. I'm not clamoring to replay classic titles when I have literally hundreds of unplayed games that I would probably prefer to play first. With the exception of a Splinter Cell trilogy with raytracing. That would most likely be amazing, and sadly would be the least likely.

First 2 Unreal games that had awesome campaigns and atmosphere. Those are worthy, especially the first one.
Another ones are DeusEx and Descent: Freespace 1 and 2.

My precious... Metal Gear Solid Series

MGS3 Snake Eater would look spectacular in RT
MGSV, oh well all of them MGS1 to 5

Yes. I do think these are really the most feasible sort of games to apply RT to at this point, given the horsepower available. The new RTX games mostly just look like they don't need it and are clearly not designed around it.

Great way to add value to remasters of classics IMO. And this could certainly push me into getting an RTX capable card IF I wanted to upgrade. Big IF so far because the offerings still aren't that great. Clearly going to be waiting for 7nm.

But... the fact Nvidia needs to push this itself speaks volumes. Apparently not a single studio saw a market here even after Quake 2 RTX. Its going to be a very slow uphill climb for RT... even with capable consoles coming.

Yes please!

+++ especially after UT4 kinda just failed on us.

It's supposed to be dark; the station is falling apart, the environment is only supposed to be lit by its emergency lighting, short-circuiting breakers, cables, switches, power generators, your flashlight and the occasional explosion/fire that should light your way.

With Ray tracing this effect will be greatly magnified, you would be able to taste the atmosphere. I can imagine how it will look with a good performing 32" VA panel too. :O

I don't see any negatives to this. At the very least there will be a number of devs well versed in RTX - if they leave after a while they can take their skills to other studios and assist in implementation into new engines.

You'd see the negative if you were an RTX naysayer: it's getting increasingly harder to pretend RTX is not a thing ;)

Quake III, UT2000 and 2001, Aquanox, Decent 1 & 2(I now there's a remake already running in OpenGL and it's glorious to behold)) would be my picks

This is so true. I would replay Return to Napali in a heartbeat (remember those reflections?!?).

This is a good idea for so many reasons, and also - if a new studio is developing a new version of a game or a sequel to existing IP this could be used as marketing materials to get people excited to play.

Id like to see heretic 2 get the RTX Treatment.
And the original AVP, Alien vs predator. that was a very good multiplayer title in my opinion, but not even in ist original form is no wehere to be found.

I wasn't impressed with Quake II RTX. Using Raytracing (My PC is a Core i9ex with 2080TiFTW3, 32GB DDR$) the game is too bright. It's supposed to be darker to make the environment feel more alien. The added effects amount to a marginal improvement. You're better off playing these 90's games on the best Windows XP rig you can build. Parts on Ebay are super cheap now and you can easily buy high end 1990's graphics cards to run these games in Open GL the way they were designed to be played.

My Windows XP rig is a HP Pavilion 8570c with a Voodoo 3 3ooo, 96MB RAM anda 20GB HDD.
