GTA V was in Top US Game Sales Charts for 74 Months

GTA V, made by Rockstar and Take-Two, is possibly the biggest game ever designed, with the massive player base and massive profits fulfilled. Perhaps the most interesting report today is that the game has stayed in the top game sales chart in the United States for the past 74 months. Month after month, gamers have been buying digital copies of the game to a point where it maintained some of the top spots on the charts. Since the game launched in 2013, it got support for two generations of consoles and PC platforms, making it accessible to a huge base of gamers. With constant updates and new content, the game managed to keep players interested and busy with new quests to conquer.

"Recurrent consumer spending on GTA Online grew 23% YoY to a new record, driven by the July release of the Diamond Casino Resort update. This update was GTA Online's biggest content launch ever, delivering record daily, weekly, and monthly active users in July and again in August," CEO of Take-Two Interactive Strauss Zelnick said in November.

This tidbit as well as Tweaktown's sounds like a Take Two press release.
The chart is monthly US sales Top 20 over last 10 years.

In that list GTAV is not surprising, Minecraft is also expected, I suppose. Mario Kart and TLoZ:BoTW are both platform-selling games on couple platforms and perfectly logical to be on top for a long while.
TCR6:S at 34 is the one that just makes me go... how?

One has to wonder if the 74 months number is continuous?
OK, GTAV came out in Sep 2013. 6 years from Sep 2013 to Sep 2019 plus Oct-Nov this year. That is 74.
GTAV has been in the Top 20 best selling games in US for all this time.

I haven't even tried GTA Online on PC. On X360 I played like 15min, and I was like naah..

Goofing around and causing mayhem in single player is IMO the thing after completing the story.

Same here , i try on pc for 40min and delete . Nothing wow , camera su#k , go from one side city to other and repeat and repeat ...

I like the story/single player, but Online just wasn't my thing. Otherwise a good game, though IMO GTA IV is better. I guess I love that dark tone more.

A lot of it was to do with some of the mods you could have for the game and also the other players you encounter and also your friends - the whole interaction between all the players just makes it more fun. If youre going to drive from point A to B and not talk or interact with anyone then of course youre going to probably find it boring as hell.

A load of youtubers and twitch streamers built huge communities with this game.

Use mods? Enjoy getting banned by rockstar.

Anything can be fun with friends. If the multiplayer is only fun with friends, that is a tactile admission the multiplayer sucks. Ride to hell is fun with friends, as is garbage like films from dingo pictures. A quality product needs ot be able to stand on its own merit.

Ouch...

The roleplaying community is by far the largest on streaming GTA V, publicly endorsed by Twitch and YouTube.
It is a mod (FiveM) - and Rockstar enjoys people using it with sales of their game.

I felt the same as well. IMO the main problem with GTA V is having 3 protagonist so we don't feel attached to them because we regularly switching characters. And the main story in GTA V revolves around heist, heist and more heist. If you are not doing heist you are planning to make one. GTA IV and previous GTA have stronger character storyline so we feel attached to it.

Exactly. Franklin is the only character I can relate since I love 90s/2000s rap and his attitude is from that era..
