The Crysis Twitter account today once again became active, after almost four years of inactivity, to post a two-worded tweet - "RECEIVING DATA". The tweet is an indication of something happening and the current industry rumors are pointing to a nonother then a remaster of the beloved title. Yes, we are talking about a remaster of one of the Crysis games, possibly the last entry added in 2013 - the Crysis 3. Originally developed by a German developer Crytek and published by Electronic Arts, the game is powered by CryEngine. The game is being worked on by both teams of EA and Crytek, however, the possible launch of the game is determined by EA, as it has rights to the game still. During the Q2 earnings call, EA's CEO mentioned that they are working delivering "some exciting remasters of fan favorites" for the fiscal year of 2021, so we can expect the game in a timeframe close to us.

It seems like the popular question "but can it run Crysis?" will gain traction again, as the game will likely be a real treat for the eyes. Implementing Crytek's latest CryEngine 5.6, it will feature all the latest bells and whistles of computer graphics. That means that Ray Tracing and support for 4K textures are going to be present. Meant for next-generation hardware of PCs and consoles like PS5 and Xbox Series X, the remastered Crysis game would need a powerful system to run on, however, judging by rumors of next-generation hardware it should be enough to power it without a problem. To see more about CryEngine 5.6, please check out the video below.

For as graphic heavy as that game was and still is by today's standard, does it really warrant a remaster? Just give it a patch and call it a day.

Strange you haven't added this clip which was the first indication of a possible comeback:

I just installed Crysis 1, 2 weeks ago with the 2017 High Res pack and was thinking of how nice it would be for a "Remake" and not a "Remaster" and how it'd be even better if they did both.

I'll be very disappointed if it's crysis 3 remastered and not the original crysis.

same. I’m pretty sure crysis 3 was less intensive than crysis (the game the meme is about). Not to mention the story.

honestly crysis 3 is just not a game I would buy again “remastered” or not.

I bought 3 on release same as two, I regretted it both times due to one month (possible exaggeration) price drops by half.

After some consideration they better rework the authentication on one I bought it two times now due to system count lockout, the cheek ,I upgrade now and again so what.

CRYSIS, itself is already everything it needs to be.

It's Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 that are broken because the games were designed for console audiences. Other than the simplification of Cloak/Armor and Speed, the games are oversimplified and just not as good as Crysis1.

But my bigger issue is the story.

I just wanted to be a supersoldier walking around killing people with an advanced suit. Crysis 1 got that right - up till the introduction of aliens.

Crysis 2 wasn't as good.

Crysis 3 kinda got it right with the Predator Bow which was rightfully and understandably overpowered when combined with the invisibility of the nanosuit. It's crazy you can be standing in front of a group of soldiers, cloaked and shoot them in the face with a grenade arrow - and still never be seen when they explode. But that's exactly how the game should be. Running out of power and decloaking is the only balance they had to offer.

I would like a Crysis where the aliens are removed and the game is reimagined into a battle between the Us government's tech sector and North Korea.

I can't think of a better test for my i9 Extreme and 2080Ti. I can't wait to play it!.

It's actually funny to think about but I wonder if Crysis wasn't hard to run back in the day would anyone care?
Lets be honest, the plot on each game was only surpassed in crap by the next in the series.
Hopefully if they do a remake they could make a more coherent plot...no more self conscience suit and suicide stuff...

What would be cool is there was a company that just did old game remasters? Sort of like old art restoration. Their job could be to restore old games for the original owners to resell giving a small fee (or one lump sum) to the restoration company per remastered game sale. That way we could get a lot of older games updated consistently.

Crysis itself was an ok game, Crysis Warhead was good too - after that the series started sucking a bit, especially with better looking/better story FPS games out there.

That being said, the quake 2 remasters are fun to play so maybe this is worth something.

I heard that it was horribly optimized, did that ever get fixed?

EA Jumping on the Activision remaster bandwagon... Lets see how badly they can f**k this one up.

Remember folks - if you give EA games a month after its initial release, you'll probably be able to get 20% off if not even more if youre serious about getting it. You gotta give anything by EA a really wide berth as they cant be trusted to release a meaningful quality product. Either they'll monitise the shit out of it or it will be a buggy mess or have really really questionable design decisions.... But since the game is already done and its being remastered it will just be questionable 'decisions' rather than ones of design.

In other news the next Battlefield game could be F2P... What a mess that will be.

I think I'd have to pass on this remake, regardless of which in the series it is. Crysis 1 still looks and runs great after all these years. Crysis 2, same. Crysis 3 just didn't hold my interest and it's too new to be remade.
Crysis 1 & Warhead are still my favs of the series, they look great and are on GOG. Origin can eat doggie doop...

Lead programmers like Tiago Sousa and probably many other who worked on CryEngine are no longer at Crytek. So I wouldn't get too exited.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet but the original Crysis starts on August 7th, 2020. It'd be neat to launch a remaster on that date if they were going to do it but, then again, this is EA, so who knows.

I've played all 3 games and I can't say I'm excited for a remaster. The games are...okay. There isn't a lot of heart in any of them and I don't think there are any really memorable sequences in any of them either. They're average, scifi, first person shooters that gained notoriety for how punishing they were and, as others have said, would they even have been remembered if not for that?

I would like to see Crysis Remastered and recently I took out one of my "retro" system to play it.
At that time, it is demanding even for PCs down the road that uses quad core and etc.
In my opinion, it isn't very well optimized especially for multi-core CPU.
Certain levels tend to have inconsistent framerate while others run fine.
Anyway I am at the final level, reliving one of the master piece.

Not sure. Even if it didnt get fixed, a patch for optimization, screen res, etc can be done via patch.

Despite the hype, CryEngine never got a lot love from developers anyway.
