AMD Releases Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.4.2

AMD has today released an update to its Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020, in the so-called edition 20.4.2. The new driver revision brings a heap of features and improvements that fix a lot of issues that users have experienced. AMD now brings support for titles like Gears Tactics and Predator: Hunting Grounds. Some of the fixes are big ones for RX Vega cards like the resolvent of system hang or black screen when running Folding@Home while also running an application using hardware acceleration of video content. Others include a fix for a system crash or hang that may be experienced when using the Edge browser to play Netflix content. Fixed Issues

• Radeon RX Vega series graphics products may experience a system hang or black screen when running Folding@Home while also running an application using hardware acceleration of video content.
• A system crash or hang may be experienced when using Edge browser to play Netflix content.
• XSplit may experience an application hang or freeze when performing a scene switch.
• Minor stuttering may occur when performing a task switch with performance metrics overlay open in some games.
• Overwatch may experience an intermittent crash while entering a game or during extended gameplay sessions.
• Radeon RX 5700 series graphics product system configurations may intermittently experience a display loss or black screen while gaming or on desktop with a limited number of displays.
• Radeon Software may experience an application crash when playing games with non-alphanumeric characters in the game title.
• Radeon RX Vega series graphics products may experience an application crash with Microsoft Teams when hardware acceleration is enabled.
• An 'Unable to get requirements' error message may intermittently occur when viewing the Upgrade Advisor tab in Radeon Software.
• Radeon RX Vega series graphics products may experience a system crash or TDR when playing games with Instant Replay or Record Desktop enabled.
• Resolved an install issue where Error 1603 could occur when an installation prerequisite for Visual C++ was not correctly detected as installed.

Known Issues

• Enhanced Sync may cause a black screen to occur when enabled on some games and system configurations. Any users who may be experiencing issues with Enhanced Sync enabled should disable it as a temporary workaround.
• Using Edge web browser to playback video content with a multi display system configuration may cause a system hang or crash after extended periods of use.
• Performance Metrics Overlay and Radeon WattMan incorrectly report higher than expected idle clock speeds on Radeon RX 5700 series graphics products. Performance and power consumption are not impacted by this incorrect reporting.
• Modifying the HDMI Scaling slider may cause FPS to become locked to 30.
• Some games may exhibit stutter intermittently during gameplay on Radeon RX 5000 series graphics products.
• Radeon RX Vega series graphics products may experience a system crash or TDR when performing multiple task switches using Alt+Tab.
• Desktop or In-game corruption may occur intermittently when HDR is enabled.
• Direct ML Media Filters are currently unavailable in Radeon Software Media gallery for video or image content.
• Some users may still experience black screen or system hang issues during extended periods of gameplay. AMD will continue to monitor and investigate reports of these issues closely.
• Some laptops may encounter a BSOD when installing Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition over an existing OEM graphics driver. To work around this issue, first uninstall the OEM graphics driver using Programs and Features within the Control Panel. Once complete, install the Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition package and select the Factory Reset option during setup.

IDK but the lower part of the known issues looks like quite a no-go.

I like AMD a lot but their drivers this year are a complete mess for my (mostly mobile) setups.

Keep reporting the issues you are having. Hopefully sooner then later they'll get around to fix them...

Probably the whole virus situation is not helping either. That being said... lots of the known issues should've been fixed by now.

It looks like they may have addressed the biggest issue for RX 5700 XT owners:

• Radeon RX 5700 series graphics product system configurations may intermittently experience a display loss or black screen while gaming or on desktop with a limited number of displays.

They are still have trouble fixing this though:

• Enhanced Sync may cause a black screen to occur when enabled on some games and system configurations. Any users who may be experiencing issues with Enhanced Sync enabled should disable it as a temporary workaround.

I'm still going to stick with the Radeon Pro Software because it's no-frills and not as bloated as Adrenalin (it was updated 2 days ago too).

Just install it normally. I think they only allowed the RX 5700 XT though, not sure about the other two Navi cards and Polaris. Radeon VII was the first consumer card supported by these drivers.

EDIT: RX Vega 56 and 64 are supported too.

Version 19.1.1?! Definitely update because the newest version adds not only new games support (whatever that means, probably just added 2-3% higher performance), new features like Vulkan support, and of course, maybe UI updates.

I am with 20.3.1 and will skip these because don't think I will see any changes for my setup.

Not sure which GPUs are affected by that issue, but I was able to go play through a 4+ hour game of the new Trials of Mana today. I had to play the game on the second monitor (the one hooked up to the RX 5700 XT) because I needed the bigger monitor (connected to the 2080 Super) for monitoring(lol) work-related dashboards and stuff through a fullscreen VM.

I'm not sure if the newer Pro drivers are based off this latest Adrenalin driver or a previous version, but it was stable for me.

Unfortunately not. It refuses to install on a Lenovo Flex 14 with 3700U, saying it could not find a compatible device.

Still haven't got my hands on some of my HP's with Ryzen but I will report back when I do.

Meanwhile, I noticed that there are separate install blobs (didn't compare hashes, tho) depending on the different mobile cards. Did you try them all?

Yup, especially the ones for the Ryzen 5/7 Pro 3500U and 3700U.

Aaargh! No luck on HP either.

It got me for a moment though. The installer allowed me to continue but after this brief moment of joy, it only offered audio driver and problem report wizard installation...
