AMD's next-generation RDNA2 architecture based Radeon RX series client-segment graphics cards will launch in September 2020, according to a DigiTimes report citing industry sources. This would make September a mighty busy month for hardware launches, as the company is also expected to debut its 4th generation Ryzen "Vermeer" (and possibly "Renoir) desktop processors in the AM4 package. NVIDIA is expected to debut its GeForce "Ampere" client-segment graphics cards around the same time. Although not in the same computing segment, Intel could also debut its 11th generation Core "Tiger Lake" mobile processors.

RDNA2 is an important launch for AMD as it's the company's first graphics architecture that meets the DirectX 12 Ultimate logo requirements, which include real-time ray-tracing capability leveraging DXR, variable rate shading, mesh shaders, and sampler feedback. AMD and NVIDIA will be debuting their graphics cards close to the release of CD Projekt's "Cyberpunk 2077," which is emerging as the year's most hotly anticipated game.

That was fast.
Remember the older GeForce cards from last decade? They were all launched around one year after their predecessors up to GTX 900 series. Also, it's not like the RX 5000 series will become obsolete the day RDNA2 launches.

Both Nvidia and AMD releasing new GPUs in September? This is going to be fun. Here's hoping they'll duke it out in regards to pricing and performance.

This is going to be a fun Fall this year altogether, especially if the rumors are true and Intel is also going to release the 11th series this fall to compete with the new AMD zen3 CPUs.

It's the same 7nm unless they managed to get the density up to 62 Mtr/mm2 where it should be, not this 41Mtr/mm2 currently that is more 10nm-like. then 5nm +60% and 3nm +60% are just around the corner, 7nm is pretty much obsolete. So if you are in the market for videocards $300 is the maximum reasonable price for something like 5700 +60%, Yeah that $349 is too much for PS5 console-like graphics even $200 is too much for 2304 processors..

Holy shit man, the timing. Come September is going to be the second wave of infections. New GPUs by then is just perfect. Bring on the lockdown again :D

Yeah 5700xt will be dead when RDNA comes out, right! :shadedshu: :shadedshu: :shadedshu: :shadedshu:

Yeah man I had to reanimate my 1080 when Turing launched, it just passed out when Jensen yelled 'It just works!'

For consoles AMD has a volume advantage and they also have nearly guaranteed sales for it. Margins can be very low and still profitable, which I reckon is also part of the reason AMD is still supplying these chips. Cost effectiveness, which is what consoles still need even if specs are better.

You're just rambling here.

5 nm is not just around the corner, whatever that means. It won't show up within a year after this launch, that's for sure. Not from either brand. Yeah I'm only talking about graphics cards here.

Actually less than that, I got AIB from like 5 or 6 months ago :shadedshu:
Probably not, it will likely be the lower end part's next time round so will retain active support, Rdna2 might only be in the big new Navi with everything below being made up from Navi 1 chip's in the 6### lineup.

Complaining about new products being better probably one of the most pointless types of complaints. Progress is good, if you can't deal with it, don't buy anything.

It's not like back in the late 90s when buying a $2500 high-end PC would barely run (if at all) the coolest games released the following year, and technologies and APIs were deprecated left and right.

why, will they magically stop working?
They already do thanks to the drivers for some folks, i just managed to fix my cooling problem thanks to dumb drivers limiting the fans at default to just 30%.

Well both the AMD and Nvidia launch date is a rumour for the moment so I'm taking it with a bit of salt.

I'd love to see the new cards in September though and it could very well be, there are a number of things pointing to it. But if the cards launch then what will the stock be, I'm a bit worried about the manufacturing capacity, will we see the cards being out-of-stock for months given the effect of Covid 19?

Money is tight for everyone everywhere so i would assume Nvidia & AMD may bring compeitive pricing.

Only hoping though.

Yes, I'm kind of hoping for the situation with ATI Radeon 4870 and Nvidia Geforce GTX 260 and 280, where Nvidia were more or less forced to lower the price of their card because the 4870 was so competitive and at a much lower price.

it doesn't for me and I highly doubt it will stop working come September. anyway saying that 5700XT's lifespan is decided by a new GPU generation is just dumb tbh, that's my point

for those who do face issues, I doubt that the 6700X will affect their cards lifespan in any way

Be that as it may, it IS true that RDNA2 is architecturally different... once again... from RDNA. See my previous post on subject. Vega is also not getting the long term support it should be getting. Fury X was abandoned quite rapidly and performance is abysmal on newer titles. The list goes on... every time they change to a new setup/product line, its like they hit that reset button. Except long term issues do seem to return.

The days of long term AMD support on for example HD 6xxx/7xxx is behind us. I hope, and honestly also do think, that RDNA2 will be 'saved' because the consoles will carry something similar-ish.

These are "client-segment" RX series graphics cards to launch September 2020. That usually does not mean "Consumer/Gaming-segment cards" or at least not yet. I'd say first "enthusiast orientated Consumer/Gaming-card" will be 3-month after, while a replacement for the RX 5700XT (Navi 10) would be at best Q1 2021. So that would make Navi 10 that released July 7th 2019, having something like a 19-month tour of duty, which is about normal.
