new cpu cooler any ideas

i am getting new cpu e6850 and i have a big typoon which was pretty good when it came out is it still good or should i start looking for a new one and what 1 should i look at my idles have rasied a bit over the years i had it at stock 3.6 speed and voltage
my idle is 32 c and load is 42 c

depends are you gonna overclock then i might suggest a new one or a better one that spreads heat fast quick and keeps a constant cool

Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme is the best air cooling. Couple that with a high cfm fan and it really shines. Load is 42? You have some room to overclock with the typhoon.

oh i do overclock i am usally beteew 4.4 and 4.6 at and 1.55 vcore at 68c on load 55c at idle

68c load is far too much. Stay under 60.

That seems a little high tony..... Can you drop the vcore even a little, 55c idle is insane imo :eek:

I still say threamalright, but with your temps and your overclock, you may want to consider water.

What are you talking about its the best? In open case it gets beat by the scythe, the enzotech, and the thermalright. Closed case beaten by the enzotech and thermalright. It beats the others in idle temp, with the fan cranked up and nothing more.

i dont use open case so i throw that out the window and the atx case it is 33 idle what beets that but i see what your looking at thank for your pov

yes it is hot i took it out one day right after i use it and i drop it cause it bunt my hands but that 1ghz overclock and it been fine for 2 years i dont think i get that lucky with my new cpu

It's stiil good the e6850 is a G0 stepping chip and runs alot cooler even overclocked than the B2 stepping relatives e6600 e6700 e6800 etc.. so if it was okay in the past it most certainly will be fine now with a cooler running chips.

i would love to do water but i would want to do it right it would probably be 250 for a new case

just keep the typhoon unless you want water the improvment will be minimal to another air setup the C2D will run a hell of a lot cooler than the P4 you have.

it is not intel specced the chips to run at 80C for years 68C is 100% A OK keep it under 70C on an AMD but intel has a higher temp threshold as long as you dont load @ 80C your fine

80C under load 24/7 is totally safe on a netburst processor. Intel specs say 85C actually, but that is the max.
