AMD has a lot riding on RDNA2, its first graphics architecture that meets the DirectX 12 Ultimate logo requirements, introducing real-time ray-tracing to the lineup. RDNA2 is confirmed to be part of the SoC that powers next-gen consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The company is simultaneously readying its own Radeon RX discrete graphics cards based on the Navi 2# silicon, based on RDNA2, with a leading part unofficially called the "Big Navi" given its alleged lofty specs increase over the "Navi 10." Turns out, that this GPU, and not next-gen consoles, will debut RDNA2.

AMD is planning a big gamer-specific event in late-Q3/early-Q4, likely September, where it plans to announce its 4th generation Ryzen desktop processors based on the "Zen 3" microarchitecture, and Radeon RX graphics cards based on RDNA2, including the "Big Navi." Speaking at the Bank of America Securities Global Technology Conference, AMD CFO Devinder Kumar confirmed that "Big Navi" will be a halo product and not merely a lofty performance increase over the RX 5700 XT to make AMD competitive against GeForce "Ampere." He states "there's a lot of excitement for Navi 2, or what our fans have dubbed as the Big Navi," adding "Big Navi is a halo product." He goes on to state that "enthusiasts love to buy the best, and we are certainly working on giving them the best." AMD's product stack so far is application-specific, rather than competition-specific. The RX 5700 XT was designed for 1440p gaming, and ended up competitive to the RTX 2070. "Big Navi" could hence have a lofty design goal: 4K gaming with ray-tracing.

I'm also looking forward to what AMD is cooking... I still don't see them matching Nvidia Ampere flagship but even if they can match the second tier card that would be nice. I plan on picking up whatever is the fastest card period.

The last AMD cards I owned were a 290X and a 7970 both in my secondary systems. I hope AMD gets back to that level.

With their CPU business bringing in the cash, I do hope that the beefier R&D budget should result in a truly competitive GPU. Also, hopefully more budget has gone into improving the quality of their drivers.

TLDR : Will be priced as high as Nvidia or a tad higher.

Its going to be priced based on what Nvidia offers at a given price point.... So if Nvidia has a card that perform similarly for $750 it will be $650-699
They did the same with the Radeon 7 and the 5700XT even having to cut the launch price of the 5700XT due to the 2070 super.

If they under cut Nvidia will be good, but in lot of other Regions other than U.S.A, they tend to overshoot , for example when RX480 launched it's reference model was priced even higher than 1060 6GB MSI Gaming X. same was for 5600/5700 series with reference models being priced higher than custom Nvidia cards. But lets hope they learn this time.

Yeah I've noticed that.... but is that a retailer thing or an AMD thing?

We4ll in my region atleast it was official with RX 480 launch, but with Navi series no official quote was given .....

That's a bummer I feel like a lot of countries outside of the United States get screwed on pricing even our neighbors just north of us Canada get screwed. Australia is pretty bad also.

The money they got from cpu sales most likely going back to cpu R&D. RTG will need to fend for themselves instead hoping the cpu division can help them. When we look at AMD recent pricing structure it really point to this.

One of the main issue is manufacturing cost is more expensive for AMD GPU. and for years nvidia also leverage this weakness to pressure AMD.

Halo products per definition do not benefit the general consumer, come on, more performances and lower prices

That render looks suspiciously a lot like this.

And their cooling isn't as effective as it could be.

Seriously, this is worse than tabloids.
How exactly does
"Kumar has reiterated that AMD remains "on track to launch our next-generation Zen 3 CPUs and RDNA 2 GPUs in late 2020," which suggests to me that we're looking at sometime around September/October for Big Navi if it is to beat the new games consoles to launch. "
turn into
"AMD is planning a big gamer-specific event in late-Q3/early-Q4, likely September, where it plans to announce its 4th generation Ryzen desktop processors based on the "Zen 3" microarchitecture, and Radeon RX graphics cards based on RDNA2, including the "Big Navi." "

Yes I agree. It's all rumours and guesses right now. I do hope it turns out to be right but I'm not going to hold my breath.
