This is irrelevant because you are using stupid levels of zoom which is not needed.
The fact is that Edge is the best looking browser out there. Full stop.

Your Firefox and GTX 1080 look worse than mine Edge and Radeon Vega.
a radeon card displays the same amount pixels as a geforce, all it can do is use a sharpening trick, which,as was explained to you,has a list of imperfections.none of us use sharpening on browsers cause smooth edges look better and have no artifacts.

now let's talk actual browsers.

I want to switch to edge but I have a habit of clicking chrome, after long times of usage when I close chrome I can't open it back up unless I manually remove process, edge doesn't have this bug afaik.

Looking at your specs i can see why 3D GPU acceleration is going to be faster, you've got weak CPU's by todays standards (still perfectly fine for web and video playback)

That said, all these browsers look the same. You've definitely got something unique to you going on with your sharpness issue.

All the browsers look different because it's in their nature to render the contents in a different way and with different settings on the code level.
As proven by the two members after your post.

My CPU is pretty fast for today's standards when most people are still struggling with 2nd and 3rd generation Core i-something.

I can play modern games pretty much maxed out at 2560 x 1440.

Still a big fan of Mozilla Firefox I tried some of the others and in the past and ended up reverting right back to it because I didn't like them personally. I feel like Mozilla's plugin support is better than Chrome/Edge when I tried them. I also like the Sync option once setup it's great.

I had to manually install the Crapmium-Edge just so I can later uninstall it, apparently if the Windows Update installs it over your old Edge you can't.

Two biggest annoyances so far:
- Horrible, horrible default fonts (anyone know which the default fonts were in the proper Edge? They were fine but can't seem to find what they exactly are)
- Why the F doesn't cursor jump to the "default dialog" on the webpage automatically? I mean, I write an adress, say, google.com, and press enter. When the page is loaded, the cursor should be in the search bar ready for typing, but instead it's still in the damn address bar (yes, I know you can search from address bar, google was just an example here) - how do I change that?

About your second complaint, I'm not sure. Old Edge, Chromium Edge (in my case, Canary) and Firefox all jumped from the Omnibox/Address bar to Google's search bar when I checked just moments ago...

Default fonts as far as I know are the usual ones in both old Edge and new Chromium Edge: Arial, Times New Roman and Consolas.

Maybe post a screenshot comparing both of them?

Love the new Edge Chromium. First a big annoyance I had with Chrome (other than the fact I don't trust Google at all) is that they didn't have a favorites drop down menu. I hate favorite bars its one of the reasons why I stuck with Firefox. I still like Firefox but Edge has taken over as my go to browser.

I like these images in Edge :) Every time it is a different and interesting one.

View attachment 157833

Looks very oversaturated. Look at the blue, all definition is lost on the boat edges. And its just painful to watch the tree blossom, its a total mess. Similar things happen with the grass as well, its almost all super bright green. Fake HDR comes to mind.

Radeon or not, your image settings are F'ed beyond recognition.

I recognize these characteristics... its the same thing you see in many SweetFX presets: oversaturated, too high in contrast, in a desperate bid to create a more vibrant image. The reality is you've just grown accustomed to a higher contrast and it means a loss of detail. Color tones are simply gone and pushed to extremes.

The writing's on the wall too, as you said my FF pic looks better than Edge, but didn't Edge have full hardware acceleration? I agree Edge does more on/with GPU resources, scrolling and cursor movement inside an image are somewhat better. Its very minor, but its there.

look at the edges of the cloud.oversharpening is very offputting.same for blossoms - they're not supposed to be that sharp.they don't mix well with the image.

It looks like whatever was the issue was fixed by re-starting the whole browser.
I couldn't take screenshots of the browser window either, it looked just like Chrome screenshots, way overbright (I'm using HDR colorspace on desktop), but after restarting the browser that seems to have fixed itself too

Not a big fan of how Edge autofills stuff. I do some dev work in the browser as well and that seriously screws with the workflow sometimes. That is what's nice about FF, the browser is super conscious about user experience and preserving it. In its time on this major version I've not experienced a single change in usage despite multiple updates. Its all under the hood and if its a visible change, you get prompted if you want to use it. Privacy settings are also ahead of the curve.

I'm seriously considering that unless I can safely uninstall the Chromium-Edge and return to proper Edge without risk of forced update

Proper Edge is discontinued, isn't it? A browser is literally one of the worst applications to not have up-to-date. Its the front-end for EVERYTHING we use nowadays. If anything is always up to speed, its the browser, quite simply because of massive userbase and usage. Many companies scramble every day to keep their applications fully compliant with the latest version.

This is the most rewarding comment thread I've seen in a very long time. Quality discussion and examples, too.

Thanks all.

Not sure if sarcasm or real lol. The image reproduction is most certainly different in any case, I find it surprising too. Good catch @ARF

Even if you have not-up-to-date "proper" Edge, it will run extremely slow, it's unstable and crashes all the time.
Why this hate towards Chromium-based Edge ? It's working and it's excellent.

It could be super cool if someone technical from Microsoft and/or AMD explains Radeon Image Sharpening, Virtual Super Resolution, this kind of stuff and how Edge works.

It's really great:

I've given Edge a try. Personally, until they add more dials to the home page, I'll stick with Opera. I like to zip through my saved sites in the evening just by clicking on them in the speed dial-not looking for them in bookmarks. Hopefully M$ catches on. Till then, I have no use for Edge.

Software Windows 11 + OpenSUSE MicroOS
I've sort of accidently started using new Edge, mostly because it doesn't suck, and has quite a few ways to customise it, including what appears to be quite strong privacy protections.

I'll need to see a review from an actual researcher before I commit to it on the privacy aspect, and I'll probably get around to moving back to Waterfox, but for the time being, it does what it says on the tin.
