If you don't know which is better, why do you prefer OpenGL?
Personally I'm not sure about the technical differences, though like with various markets Microsoft took this one over as well.

I would guess new games don't support OpenGL because it's pointless to support both API's when all videocards support both.

OpenGL runs a lot better on Nvidia, and Direct3D runs about the same on both Nvidia and ATI.

It really doesnt matter, personally I think Direct 3d games are more efficient and better looking (Half Life 2, Far Cry) The only big OpenGL game is Doom 3. Back in the day of tribes you could usually choose between OpenGL or Direct3d, but that was only because those games were software rendering so the games could switch. Not possible today.

Is FEAR OpenGL? It doesn't run as well as half-life and I don't think the textures are as good. The only thing it has that is impressive is some nice ragdoll effects and lighting.

I believe Fear is OpenGL.:) ATI is soon to release new drivers that should improve all OpenGL game performance by about 30%. At least thats what I understand.
