Havas Media the agency hired to manage the Epic Games Store recent game giveaway campaign "The Vault", which ran from May 14th through June 18th has revealed some new statistics on the success of the program. The Vault campaign focused on 21 key markets where several major titles were given away for free such as Grand Theft Auto V, Civilization VI, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, and Ark: Survival Evolved.

The campaign provided a major boost to the Epic Games Store setting many new user milestones, including average Peak Concurrent Users (PCCU) on PC of 13 million and Monthly Active Users (MAU) on PC of over 61 million. This brings the store much closer to Steam which had 95 million monthly active players in 2019 and has 14 million to 20 million peak concurrent players each day.

"Since launching the Epic Games Store, we've always wanted to create a huge event around our very successful Free Games weekly program to give something awesome to players worldwide, and we decided to go big. We invested in acquiring the rights to give four of the biggest games in the world away free. The results have exceeded our expectations," said Steve Allison, GM Epic Games Store. "In 2020, we've been growing at a historic rate. Epic Games Store partners have a huge audience of players to sell their games to and receive 88% of the revenue, instead of only 70% as on other platforms."

Those concurrent numbers are crazy. It is nice though to put some scope on the ridiculous argument that Epic is somehow bad for individual gamers. My favourite is they are only giving you free games to get your information (that Google, Facebook, Steam, Newegg, Amazon and other undesirable entities have already had for years). As a long time user there was a time when there were only 8 million people total on Steam. I am really interested to see how Covid and the release of low end, compelling parts (3300X, 10400F) will have.

Kudos to them for the free games event, however, their software/service sucks in comparison to Steam.

Steam has a 10+ year lead on Epic in that regard,

Benchmark Scores 3050 scores good 15-20% lower than average, despite ASUS's claims that it has uber cooling.

Because there are so many options to bring people to your platform.

The gamer hate towards ES is idiotic.

Sounds like an excuse generated from bias. Glass half full = Epic had 10 years to release a comparable software/service to provide proper competition, rather than just luring users to crapware via free games. Origin is literally better software/service than epic, and that is bad.

I have no bias I use Steam, GOG, EPIC, UPlay. I am just stating that in terms of EPIC and Steam and their UI. The workshop does make Steam a better UI for some games but Epic will not not remain inert even GOG has changed their UI for the better recently. None of this would be happening if Epic did not exist.

I agree. If Epic did not exist, none of us would be installing crapware on our computers in exchange for free games.

There is no valid reason why anyone needs Epic software / service for distribution. It's way under developed. As I said previously, Origin provides better software / service, it is literally that bad in comparison. Their only strategy is to pay developers for timed exclusives and timed free games to lure users to service / software that would otherwise be not wanted.

The funny thing is that is the way I used to feel about Steam. I will never forget buying my new copy of Total War Shogun 2 and having to install Steam to play the Game. I was less than pleased until one day when I lost my OS and realized that all I needed was an email and password and my library would be accessible but I am still waiting to speak to someone at Steam support. What I don't understand is why people with your mindset have such disdain for Epic. Why would I want to spend time looking around a UI if I have so many free games to play. Origin, change some part of your PC and when Origin tells you that you that you have lost your credentials it's probably why they are back on Steam. At the end of the day no 'one can offer an objective argument as to why getting free games from Epic is bad for the individual PC Gamer. It's also funny to me that I bought Crysis on Steam and could not get the Game to play properly (And not just that one) and lo and behold it comes out on GOG and runs like butter but wait Steam is so good?
