Is my RAM actually compatible with my Mobo? It’s not listed in the QVL but there are people online saying it’s fine to use?
There's no reason it shouldn't be. The QVLs aren't as important with Zen 2 as they were back when Zen first came out.

Edit: The 3200 kit you listed the parts number for above is on the QVL for Matisse CPUs

Yeah I’ve just seen it’s on the Matisse QVL too, phew!

Yep, I just found that too. I wonder if the issues are all memory timing related? Maybe even the original kit just needs to be tweaked?

Talk about a trial by fire, why couldn’t I have just plugged something in wrong or thrown thermal paste everywhere, would be a much simpler diagnosis...

Would it need raising even with XMP, do you think?

Yeah, new builds can sometimes be a little frustrating. Do you have a part number for your original ram kit?

I would try just leaving everything at the default settings once you get windows reinstalled. Make sure you can boot into windows. Then I would hop into the BIOS, enable XMP, and manually set the frequency, voltage, and primary timings.

Yeah, I'm thinking it might be a good idea to find out what type of chip is on the ram sticks and then use dram calculator to get some timings to try.

Great suggestion, would you recommend the 16, 18, 18, 18 configuration with 1.36v?

I don’t know much about manually configuring XMP

I'm sifting through the corsair forums and seeing a few threads complaining of stability problems with XMP settings.

Was going to suggest the same thing.

Whatever is listed on the actual module - there should be a small white sticker on the back side. It should list timings and the voltage. I'm not exactly sure how the gigabyte BIOS is laid out, but for my MSI board, I can enable either XMP 1 or XMP 2. Then I can go into my overclocking tab and just manually put the timings in.

So interestingly, my boot USB blue screened with the new RAM in too...
What was the error code?

I didn’t see, unfortunately

I’m running a fresh install using the single old stick as we speak and that’s running OK so far

Would it be fair to say that the new 3200Mhz RAM is also faulty?

I might move away from Corsair RAM entirely and go with something else!

Yeah, I did them a second time just in case I’d missed anything. Running the F20 BIOS and latest AMD chipset.

Thanks,

Chris

Fresh windows installed, do you think I should try the latest 3200Mhz RAM again or leave it be/return them?

I’ve re-ran sfc/scannow and no errors have pooped up

I would hope no errors popped up considering you just reinstalled windows. Does it BSoD on boot with the 3200 kit or can you make it into windows?

For what it's worth i've seen a fair bit of others with memory/xmp issues on this board. So you recently bought new memory to try and it's not working with xmp? If that's the case and the memory that you recently bought is not on the QVL list then i would return it and go with something that is. That's totally your call to make but for me personally I would want the peace of mind especially after experiencing issues like you are

This should go without saying but do some web surfing and look for people who have had the same/similar issues. I'm pretty sure i have seen multiple similar threads and perhaps there will be something worthwhile for you try in one of them

EDIT* Oh also silly suggestion perhaps, but did you also check your motherboard manual and make sure you installed the memory kits into the correct slots in the correct sequence? some boards are more picky than others as to how/where the memory is inserted

I bought 3600Mhz RAM that worked fine in normal circumstances, but I was getting CTDs and LiveKernel errors which I thought was my GPU. memtest threw up an error when testing the 3600Mhz kit so I’m sending it back next week and got a replacement 3200Mhz kit that BSODs on boot with or without XMP enabled (couldn’t even boot into a windows media USB

Both RAM sets I’m using are on the QVL (I was looking at the wrong CPU type QVL before) and I’ve seen others online using the same combo, Reid my luck to land with these issues.

Do you think it could be the Motherboard then?

Thanks for the advice, I’ve already surfed the web on these issues and posting to forums is my last resort always, but I couldn’t find anything that helped after all the steps I’ve taken that I’ve found elsewhere so I can to you all as a final effort before sending the PC into a shop for repairs.

Instead of switching back and forth between ram kits I suggest installing the 3600 set and then run the ryzen dram calculator to get some timings to try. If you don't already have one I also suggest creating a bootable flash drive with Memtest.

I'm starting to think that. I didn't see the 3600 kit on the QVL but the 3200 kit definitely is. If you can't even load the windows install USB with the kit that is tested to work with your motherboard, I would imagine it's a board issue.

Instead of switching back and forth between ram kits I suggest installing the 3600 set and then run the ryzen dram calculator to get some timings to try. If you don't already have one I also suggest creating a bootable flash drive with Memtest.
OP has already run memtest and got errors with one of the 3600 sticks. As I mentioned above, if OP can't boot with a kit that is verified to work by the board manufacturer, there's bigger problems at play than just the memory.

Just ran some more tests using both sticks of 3200Mhz individually, one single stick of 3200Mhz booted fine, the other went into an infinite reset loop never reaching windows. Definitely a dodgy stick of ram (tested in the same slot) in the new RAM kit

Is that the same slot that the 3600 stick was failing in? I'm wondering if you just have a bad DIMM slot on the board
