I am a bit baffled by that "two floating point operations per clock" thing. Whenever Nvidia/AMD/Intel/etc talk about TFLOPS, what they really mean is fused multiply add and those are already "two floating point operations per clock". So ... what's this then ?

You need either ~8000 shaders or rather FP units (kind of impossible) or ~4 Ghz (also obviously impossible) in order to get 30 TFLOPS. Something's off.

Haha I feel so bad I sold my 2080 Ti to this dude a month ago for $1300 and he thought he got such a good deal because I included a $150 waterblock and the card was $1350 new.. Now it's worth barely $500 lmao

that does hurt oof

A 2080 Ti at 2000mhz core clock is only about 17.5TFlops of shaders performance and the 3080 is 30TFlops at 1700mhz ?
But yeah the 3080 Ti if there is one will be the one to get, 1000-1200usd with 11GBs of VRAM that will almost match the 3090 (which basically is the Titan).
I bet Nvidia was able to get a sweet deal with Samsung 8N to get the prices so low.

it has something to do with the new structured FP32. i heard some rumor talks before that samsung process probably can't push the clock higher so nvidia doing something else to increase the performance. they said nvidia will double the amount of FP32. and yeah maybe nvidia really get a sweet deal. samsung really needs people to manufacture their stuff at their fab. heard that qualcomm is turning back to TSMC due to samsung 5nm yield issue.

They're expecting RDNA2 to be faster and more efficient than Ampere ... whilst hoping the huge, brute force 3090 will retain them the absolute crown. Given how inefficient this is looking as an architecture, and that they're on a slightly shrunk 10nm process (that's what Samsung 8nm is), that will be touch and go too ... depends how big the biggest Navi 2x is.

In light of that, they can't maintain their current pricing model.

God, there's so much wild unwarranted speculation/AMD fanaticism in this comment it's actually cringe-worthy.

I am an AMD fanboy, and I don't see AMD coming close to this, I think they scared Nvidia a little though for sure, which is great for competition. I am buying 4800x and 3080 100%

prob is re-sell value is going to be terrible this round... i feel bad for someone who just bought a 2080 ti 31 days ago... ouch. lol
I don’t really care about re-sell value TBH...
The 2070 super served me well for a while, so I’m happy.
I will replace it in a few months, after the first batch of reviews.

Amd will release another vega potato after months of hyping and not living up to any promise like it was in Pascal days. That’s why there were no news still.

There you go again. You just can't help yourself but flame and mention AMD on every single occasion, I don't think there is a single comment you write without the word "AMD" or "fanboy" in it.

You're the only cringe worthy thing on here.

Who cares. Sli sucks
I think the fact that they disabled SLI support altogether on 3070 and 3080 is a little telling about the potential of Explicit Multi-GPU, now that Vulkan and DX12 has had time to mature. SLI was brute force, it did suck!

Nope. To me Nvidia is only competing with itself at this point. In other words, how to get the Pascal crowd to move on and upgrade? Jensen even mentioned that in his talk!

I might not wait to see what AMD has. Depending on how much faster the 3080 over 2080ti is, I'll grab it now and enjoy games for 2 months instead of rotating on my thumb.

I am totally impressed. First Nvidia proved why it is called a software company that also creates hardware.
Then I think it hit the target with prices.

NVIDIA is in for a long game, sir. Too many Pascal owners have refused to upgrade to RTX 2000 because the performance increase just isn't tempting enough. Check Steam HW stats - the GTX 1060 is miles more popular than all other cards combined. RTX 3060, if it's priced correctly (let's say around $300) could become a smashing success and will actually improve hugely their bottom line vs. having more expensive cards which won't sell well. I know there are mostly computer enthusiasts in the comments section of TPU but trust me, RTX 3060 will sell in volumes which will be far higher than 3070-3080-3080 Ti (?)-3090 combined.

He looked at me through the screen and called me his "Pascal friend" and said "it's safe to upgrade". Guy is salesman for sure.

not to mention nvidia stock prices, gaming revenue is very little of that last i checked. they moved into healthcare, cars, AI, all of which generate way more money than gaming ever could. we just happen to get the benefits of that. thats why nvidia stock is so good and will stay good. Jensen is a smart guy.

Cheap prices and fastest performance available especially in RT which all nextgen games will use. Nvidia uncontestly wins again. When’s Intel joining the war again?

I was almost dropping a tear when he was talking about 1080 (which I run to this day) and that it safe to get 3070/80 now :D
