I just bought my 1st motherboard and would like feedback from other users of this board.
I wanted the Thunderbolt 3 and the price was really good ($264.00). I tried to match up board after board
and this was the one with the best T3 set up and everything else seems great so far.

I am looking to buy this board, but I have one important question: When you enable Thunderbolt 3 in the BIOS, what else gets disabled?

On the website, and in the manual, it says only:

"Because of the limited I/O resources of the PC architecture, the number of Thunderbolt™ devices that can be used is dependent on the number of the PCI Express devices being installed. (Refer to Chapter 1-7, "Back Panel Connectors," for more information.)"

The manual (even Chapter 1-7), only repeats this same quote! All the manual says is to check the Thunderbolt 3 settings in the BIOS.

This is really frustrating, because competing boards all explain the limitations (e.g. on one other motherboard, using the 3rd PCIe x4 slot is not possible when Thunderbolt 3 is enabled - you have to choose one or the other).

What gets turned off when Thunderbolt 3 is enabled? Does it disable the third PCIex16 slot? Does it disable one of the M.2 slots?

I am guessing is that the only place to see this is in the BIOS (as the manual says to set Thunderbolt 3 settings there)?

Hi bsd107

I might not be the best person to answer because 1 - am definitely a beginning computer builder 2 - tomorrow
my m-2 drive arrives, then I will put windows on it and be operational.
As far as what shares bandwidth with what, I do know that M-2A_CPU drive 1 share bandwidth with the SATA 0 and 1 ports, M@M_SB shares SATA ports 3,4,5 and the M2P_SB shares with the PCIEx4 connector.

I have not seen anything about the T3 ports sharing bandwidth, but if I do, I'll come back to inform on what I've found.

This link might have good info for you, all the specs and whatnot ;)

I finished all the installations, all hooked up and I think my stereo sounds much better coming through this board.
maybe I'm imagining things, but it sounds really good! Very happy with this board so far.

Hi

For a motherboard I was using an ASUS M5A78L-M USB3. It's a few years old but I had it going through an Onkyo TX NR-609 via the HDMI.
Later, I started using the optical signal from the SPDIF.

at this moment I have my new board going through the Onkyo via the SPDIF and the HDMI is giving me the picture through my Vizio tv, which is finicky with the HDMI when it goes through the receiver. Both computers are still up, maybe I should do a sound test, might have just been my imagination.

I have a question if anyone might be able to help. The Thunderbolt 3 ports coming out of the Vision D - they can be used as a video signal
if a monitor can accept a type C plug? I'm not really familiar with the T/3 yet. Also, I could use advice on a GPU to go with this board. I only
put an i5 10500 in it so what ever would meet that limitation, that would be a great help. I have to learn JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING.
Putting this rig together was a start. Trying to learn something new each and every day.

For monitor, stay with HDMI or DisplayPort, ZERO advantage to use TB(Thunderbolt ) monitor.
USB C vs. USB 3 vs. Thunderbolt: All You Need to Know

IF for some odd reason you want to use a TB Apple monitor, have to connect the GPU
Displayport out to the DP IN in the back of the motherboard, the manual page 21 has the details

Want a GPU to do what? What price range?

IF you do not do anything specif, can go fine with a MSI GeForce GTX 1650 Super Gaming X

Thank you, Pictus. I really appreciate the reply and the links.

I want to get a GPU that best fits with the Core i5 10500 I bought. I was a little hasty when I bought it, I should have went with the i7.
I might still be able to return and get the i7, but I already bought RAM that is 2666Mhz, So if I get the i7, it will be limited
by the RAM I bought. Does that sound correct? Forgive me, but I'm still learning and I have a lot to learn.

I figure at this point, since I have the i5, and the 2666 Mhz RAM (32GBx2), maybe for this build I will go with a GPU that will
match up the best with what I have in the i5 and the RAM. I don't want the older ports on it, only HDMI, Display Port and Type C or Thunderbolt 3.
I want to be able to use multi screens, and basically I'd be happy with something along those lines. I'd spend up to $499.00 range. I am going to
do some research, I was just hoping someone with this motherboard, or Z-490 chipset might be able to suggest a nice GPU.

Thanks again, appreciate it.

Edit:
That 3rd link had a lot of great info, thank you again!

This is the card I like so far after round 1. I did like the MSI, but I think I'd rather go with this, don't want to mix the mystic lighting with Fusion 2.0
This actually seems like a good card, any opinions would be most welcome.

Thank you! I liked that MSI, it definitely put me on the right track.
The GTX 1660 Super is on it's way.

This mother board has be great, no troubles so far. This CPU fan goes well with the look of the board, it was only 19$
(when I bought it last 14 days - 29$ now.)
