AMD today posted the Radeon Software Adrenalin 20.8.3 WHQL drivers. This was earlier released as a beta in late-August. Besides the WHQL certification, nothing appears to have changed since 20.8.3 beta. The drivers come with optimization for "Marvel's Avengers" (the game), "Project CARS 3," and "Fortnite" (specific to DirectX 12 model in "Epic" setting). Other changes over the previous 20.8.2 drivers include new Vulkan API extensions, a number of game-specific fixes, improved compatibility of YouTube playback on certain browsers when paired with AMD Ryzen processors, and more. Grab the drivers from the link below.

DOWNLOAD: AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 20.8.3 WHQL

Support For
  • Project CARS 3
  • Marvel's Avengers
  • Fortnite
    • Using AMD's latest driver Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 edition 20.8.3, a Radeon RX 5700 XT GPU offers an average 12% better FPS performance in Fortnite (DX12) on the Epic setting, vs. the previous driver iteration, Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 edition 20.8.1.RS-340

Added Vulkan Support
  • VK_EXT_extended_dynamic_state: This extension adds more dynamic states. This allows applications to reduce the need to recompile and bind pipeline state objects.
  • VK_EXT_private_data: This extension allows applications to store application-defined data in a 64-bit private data slot.
  • VK_EXT_image_robustness: This extension adds stricter requirements such that drivers return default RGBA values instead of undefined values for out-of-bounds reads. The number of components returned depends on the number of components present in the selected format.
  • VK_GOOGLE_user_type: This extension indicates the driver's support for shader modules using the SPV_GOOGLE_user_type SPIR-V extension.
Fixed Issues
  • Mortal Shell may experience a game or application crash when opening the inventory window in game.
  • Enabling HDR on some Radeon FreeSync 2 displays, may intermittently cause the display refresh rate to be forced to the FreeSync ranges minimum refresh rate during gameplay.
  • Surviving Mars may experience an application crash or hang at launch on Radeon RX 5000 series graphics products.
  • eFootball PES 2020 may experience an application crash at launch on Radeon RX 5000 series graphics products.
  • Radeon Overlay may not be available or may fail to invoke on Hybrid Graphics system configurations when playing Hyper Scape.
  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive may experience intermittent stutter when some applications are running in the background such as third party matchmaking clients or Discord.
  • YouTube playback may become frozen with Microsoft Edge player and Chrome when played on an extended display on some AMD Ryzen 7 3000 series and AMD Ryzen 4000 series APU system configurations.
Known Issues
  • Project CARS 3 may experience mirror like corruption when using VR during game menus on GCN based Radeon graphics products.
  • Project CARS 3 may experience performance issues when the Radeon Software performance metrics overlay is enabled.
  • Performance issues may be experienced when playing Horizon Zero Dawn on select Radeon Vega graphics.
  • With Radeon FreeSync enabled on Radeon RX 5000 series system configurations, task switching to another display or application may cause the display to flicker for a few moments.
  • Brightness flickering may be experienced on some VP9 video content playback through applications or web browsers on Radeon RX 5000 series graphics product system configurations.
  • Enhanced Sync may cause a black screen to occur when enabled on some games and system configurations. Any users who may be experiencing issues with Enhanced Sync enabled should disable it as a temporary workaround.
  • Performance Metrics Overlay and the Performance Tuning tab incorrectly report higher than expected idle clock speeds on Radeon RX 5700 series graphics products. Performance and power consumption are not impacted by this incorrect reporting.
  • With HDR enabled, Windows desktop may experience flickering, and performing a task switch while in a game may cause colors to become washed out or over saturated.
  • Audio may experience instability when connected through an Audio Video Receiver via HDMI on Radeon RX 5000 series graphics products.
  • Modifying the HDMI Scaling slider may cause FPS to become locked to 30.
  • Some games may exhibit stutter intermittently during gameplay on Radeon RX 5000 series graphics products.
  • AMD will continue to monitor and investigate any new reports of black screen or system hang issues during extended periods of gameplay closely. Users are encouraged to use the new Bug Reporting Tool for any issues they may encounter.

For those who missed it last month, version 20.Q3 of the Radeon Pro Software for Enterprise is also out, which is basically the above without the Adrenalin stuff. Stability over gaming optimizations (which I've seen to be around a 5% to 10% performance loss based on my experience with PUBG and Warzone).

Also I haven't experience these issues on the Pro drivers:
  • Brightness flickering may be experienced on some VP9 video content playback through applications or web browsers on Radeon RX 5000 series graphics product system configurations.
  • Some games may exhibit stutter intermittently during gameplay on Radeon RX 5000 series graphics products.

Let's see if they fixed extended_dynamic_state.

Shouldn't you use extendedDynamicState if this is being called in Vulkan? Or is this the VK_EXT_extended_dynamic_state bug that crashes DMC5 and Shadows of the Tomb Raider?

Look at these:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/g...ntry/yuzu-progress-report-aug-2020/smobug.png this is with VK_EXT_extended_dynamic_state enabled and in use on 20.8.3.
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/g...ntry/yuzu-progress-report-aug-2020/smofix.png this is with VK_EXT_extended_dynamic_state disabled.

Nvidia had a similar issue when they released the vulkan beta driver some time ago, it is fixed by now. Intel still shines for its lack of support. mesa's RADV ACO got it sooner than the rest, but I haven't tested it yet.

Ah yeah so its in the Vulkan driver. Just report it to @INSTG8R or any of the other Vanguard peeps (and on the AMD Bug Report tool) and they'll take a look at it.

My experience with the Bug report tool is pretty bad, seems like AMD just collects those and never looks at them.
Guess I'll try again. I'll also try again to inform them of the broken 3D textures in Vega.

Thats actually a lot, considering the game is not that new at all.

Actually, they make significant changes each season, so it's at least partially a new game. The graphics look quite different than last season, so they must have updated their graphics engine to support RT, etc.

I knew they updated the game fairly regularly but didn't expect engine upgrades (it makes sense tho, considering UE gets updated quite often) in such scape to warrant a 12% performance uplift.
Considering AMD was behind Nvidia in this particular title, will be interesting to see what's the gap now.

I've installed the new driver yesterday. Must say it works pretty darn good. (Actually never had any crazy problems with the driver nor the card anyway). You dont even have to turn off the ULPM in the registery any longer. Actually, You won't be able to switch ULPM off now. Either way I haven't seen any slow downs (clock drops) during gaming so far. To my surprise, haven't tested it properly yet but I think some games faster a bit faster now. Need to check the strange brigade since DX12 was faster for me than Vulcan.

Also I haven't experience these issues on the Pro drivers:
the pro drivers are absolutely not the same as above & do not contain the same listed fixes or vulkan additions, they are on a different older branch, simply compare the package version numbers (i havent looked at Q3's yet, but Q2 was a november branch that also had the old settings screen since the new one was introduced in december)

but i dont think all game optimizations are removed, that might have been a side effect of the branch difference depending on which versions you were testing, i should hex edit (inspect) the dlls again like i used to...

Thats actually a lot, considering the game is not that new at all.
dx12 update is less than half a year old, rtx update is last week, the entire island changed last year, all this in addition to testing out new engine features every few months before making them available to developers

even if the engine stayed the same, there would be different particle effects, different objects, & a lot more water than ever simply with the map (chapter) & item shop changes, 'requiring' gpu makers to do another round of optimizations

i'm trying to think of another game that had driver updates a long time after release... maybe destiny 2's expansions? world of warcraft for sure, codwarzone vs cod 2019
