Apple Preparing to Launch First ARM-Powered MacBook Next Month

Apple announced plans to transition their Mac lineup to in-house ARM-based processors earlier this year. This decision came as a result of Apple's dependence on Intel for new processors each year and their recent underwhelming improvements. The upcoming 12 core chip is expected to be manufactured on TSMC's 5 nm node which should deliver significant power savings and performance. Apple has been working to optimize macOS and first party applications for the new processors along with sending out developer transition kits to hopefully ensure major software is supported at launch. The processor is rumored to debut in an upcoming 13-inch MacBook Pro or a new MacBook Air and should launch at a dedicated event in November according to a recent report by Bloomberg.

Two things what matters for me.

1. Temp.
2. CPU power.

Waiting for reviews. But I don't see how arm will take place in casual pc eco system.

Give it a few years.
For example, they will have in 5 years the current intel or amd power, but in that time amd and intel will be far more in lead anyway. As well I want to see custom builds with arm.

Didn't the same happen with PowerPC until it was ditched in favor of x86?

Can't really remember, but there definitely wasn't as much hype that PowerPC is taking over x86 like it is with ARM.

I don't think it's for the global warming in itself, but for the fact that it's something that gets repeated and repeated and i don't know about you, but didn't see any nation wiped underwater. Maybe not the best example, but it's easily understandable i think

true, they have. eventually it will happen and those people will gloat and be like "see I told you so." those types of people are called narcissists. they have a compulsion to always be right about everything.

The statement given by the U.N was and is mostly true. The fact that it is non reversable for now means with rising sea levels, Citys will vanish. For example look at Venice in Italy and how close they are to get there. Global Warming is a FACT. Injecting disinfectants on the other hand is not......

BTT:
Love to see Apple is making their own CPU's. It is fairly save to say Apple wouldn't switch to their own ARM design, if there wouldn't be parity or near parity between x86 and the custom ARM design.

For example look at Venice in Italy and how close they are to get there. Global Warming is a FACT.
Venice is sinking. FACT. But do you know anything about Venice. It is essentially stone huts on wooden stilts on hard clay. ON CLAY. Not rock. CLAY. It is going to sink. Eventually. As the stilts (or wood piles) slowing sink into the clay or they just decay. Irrespective of whether sea levels rise or not.

Global Warming is a FACT? What does that mean? Temperatures have risen. Data fact. Temperatures are expected to rise. Modelling result with some uncertainty. But the concept Global Warming? Do you mean the Earth as we know it will always get hotter and hotter never stopping? Until the water boils? In fact, Global Warming is SO DISPUTED that we now call it CLIMATE CHANGE, because we are seeing significant and disruptive changes in weather patterns that are affecting our human lives. But not necessarily WARMING EVERYWHERE. And does warming actually harm the World or just us? (From a long term systemic standpoint).

Yes, temperatures have risen. And our human presence has accelerated it. But can we actually stop it? Perhaps we can't. Maybe it is increasing asymptotically toward some threshold number, at which point, it will turn and decrease. (This has happened many times over the millennia, before our interference). So our recent human behaviour of trashing the environment is speeding us along this curve which means we will get to the cooling point faster. Or we try to slow down global warming and it just means more years of misery before we get to that same turning point.

I leave you with a thought question: Who and what do we save by the measures you want to implement? And who benefits? Because it is nothing more than REDISTRIBUTION ECONOMICS. Not necessarily wrong. But be honest about the motive forces and the end result.

People keep saying that for the last 10 years...

Just wait, Linux might take over tomorrow, as well... It really should have already, right? :D

Except that this is not just talk anymore. Many, and I mean many companies, follow what Apple does.

For example, they will have in 5 years the current intel or amd power, but in that time amd and intel will be far more in lead anyway. As well I want to see custom builds with arm.
5 years sounds like a made up number. I wonder what Apple is going to do with iMacs.

Number is made up.

We shall see cpu comparison next month when they gonna release first macii kappi appli device with arm. Personaly I don't believe that arm will be at the same level amd or intel.

I'm really interested in seeing how this one plays out. The benchmarks are coming in on the A14 now and it is a pretty amazing performer.

Below is the A14 (2 big, 4 little core) vs the Ryzen 3300X 4C/8T desktop chip - the A14 is 24% faster than the 3300X in single threaded operations. This is despite having a much lower thermal limit being in a phone/tablet, and restricted with slower LPDDAR4 RAM. For that matter, the A14 has ZERO L3 cache, to the 3300X 16MB L3 cache.

The laptop A14 will purportedly have 12 cores, which probably means 4 big and 6 little, and I bet it doesn't have those constraints.

Capture.JPG

This is compared to a 4700U - a fairer comparison, but still a lot of factors favoring the 4700U. The A14 is 41% faster in single thread here. That's an absolute slaughter. This could wind up being a far reaching game changer.
