In a recent interview with Chris Pruett, Facebook's Director of Content Ecosystem at Oculus it was revealed that the Oculus Quest 2 launch had been a huge success exceeding the companies expectations. Chris Pruett commented that the Oculus team "really couldn't be happier" with the launch and noted the headset was selling "faster than Quest did" and "maybe a little bit beyond what we expected". VR developers have been echoing these comments with Rec Room noting a 250% larger launch over the original Quest and a 10x increase in sales.

The data from Rec Room also shows that the majority of Oculus Quest 2 purchases are from people trying VR for the first time which is great news for the VR industry in general. Facebook has been able to keep up with the demand for the new headset which has evidently proven to be a great success even with controversy surrounding the Facebook account requirements.

People like to pay Evil Zuck to data mine shit out of their asses. They lost their free will long time ago, but who can blame them? 70 years of consumerism and brainwashing has done it's job. Luckily there are still countries like Germany which banned selling Quest 2 because of unlawful practices of The Evil One.

Either those who bought it are in for a rude awakening or all those people saying they don't use Facebook are shameless liars. Regardless this has shown that people are sheeple who only care about what's cheap and Facebook's subsidy strategy is a big winner.

I am not surprised. What you get for that price its a great bargain. Especially for people who don't care about their data/privacy.

I'd have one. Don't really give a rats about my FB account. I dont have any personal details on it, and ALL my privacy settings are friends only, don't even accept friend requests from friends of friends.

I'm inclined to agree,.....

Currently I have the following VR HMDs:

Sony PSVR
Oculus Rift
Oculus Quest

I would still consider buying the Oculus Quest 2 but I would likely just use the FB account of a family member that actually uses FB. I setup a FB account many many moons ago but never used it. I suspect that if I were to use my old FB account it would be locked.

One thing people should keep in mind, just because you may not use FB doesn't mean people around you aren't. So if you travel in the same circles as someone who does you may appear in their photos and be tagged.

I'll also add that creating a cheap VR HMD with good specs is obviously going to attract a lot of people that were on the edge of buying one (waiting for better specs and price). However, the FB requirement is a bridge too far for many. So the logical next step is hacking the FB requirement right out and there are people out there trying to do just that, as well as a posted cash reward for the first to do so.

I hope their efforts are successful,.......soon.

Apparently there were or still are a lot of PSVR VR HMD's on Steam. This indicates that there are a lot of people willing to buy cheaper VR HMD's to hack. So FB may have miscalculated how determined some people may be to sidestep their draconian measures,....
