For more years than I want to admit to, I've always wanted to check out computer problems on the system and in the environment where it lives. Take a PC or part to a shop and it never works the same.

If RAM is being run like its supposed to, correct clock speed, correct voltage, and Memtest shows errors, then the ram is bad. It's just pure and simple mechanics.

However, is it shorted or open? Or is it just dirty?
I've saved hundreds of sticks of ram over the years by just washing it, rinsing it in alcohol, thoroughly drying it and reinstalling it again.

I've even saved a few Video Cards by washing the ram chips on them.

Give that a try before you throw that ram away.

Cheers!

I feel ya man,

We have about 6 pc shops where I live and not one worker actually knows anything about hardware...

They just have their shitty IT tafe certificate and that is it..

Ive had guys try to sell me 6200 gfx cards to play bf2142 at full res....

The ram may not be bad, it could be incompatibilty issues possibly.

Have you checked the timings and voltage to make sure they are all correct. Possibly your mb is setting the ram up incorrectly causing the errors

i have 4 ram sticks tested all 4 1 come up with errors because it was a 2gig kit they both whent back there all at 1066mhz 2.3 volts but it just shits me when you go to a computer shop and they don't no what there on about you cant test 1066mhz running at 800mhz and then say its not getting errors the errors must be not coming from the ram when it a memory test lol and say that my board dosnt support 1066mhz because he looked of the asus web site

Well actually he is correct there.. It doesn't support ram clocked above 800 technically...

But somehow I highly doubt that board would have a problem handling 1066.... I mean I can get around 900 on my P5LD2 without raising the chipset voltage.

Although try to clock it to 800 and see what happens, if it doesn't error, try to up your chipset voltage a tad and see what happens... It's possible you could just have a *not so great* memory controller. Happens...

But other than that good luck, I hope you get it all working.

Hold on....they are saying there is no problem...yet they aren't running at the speed it is DESIGNED to work at....how gives a rats ass if your board is "not compatible"...it doesn't work at the speed it's meant to, therefore it is a problem and they should be replaced...

RMA instead of going to the PC Repair store. They already have a hard time staying in business(Most of them at least). That's why they are trying to tell you this.

Take some printoffs from memory and mobo manufacturers websites that clearly show specs of 1200MHz, see the stupid bastard try to argue with that, or, challenge him by saying if he lets you at his test setup you can prove the memory is having errors at its rated speed (aka what ocz state the memory as being able to work at) and nominal voltage. Alternatively, you can challenge him by asking him how can he say the memory has no problems when the chipset on his test system cant even run 1066MHz.

Its no skin off their nose, all they have to do is send it back to the disty who will give him a new kit to put back in his window. The disty will then send back to manufacturer.

Chill out man... You don't want to go sending back RAM thats not working the way its supposed to because your board wont let it... Thats what I was checking.

Now in this case it sounds like its definitely the ram. But you don't return DDR2 1066 because your DDR2 675 board wont run it at 1066.... Taken to another extreme but very true...

Anyways ya they are right sounds like they are dodging the bullet here..

Except you missed the point, he ran it at 1066 in his board, and it wasn't working, so yes, maybe that is his board, but they need to test it at 1066, NOT 800 just because his board doesn't support it.

If they test it at 1066 and there is a problem, then they need to replace it, if however it works on theirs at 1066 then it's a problem with his board.

What I'm saying, is that saying a product works at less than it's meant to, just because what you have isn't compatible with it's full speed, is wrong. If it doesn't work at the rated speed (regardless of compatibility etc) then there is a problem and it needs to be replaced.

I didn't miss that at all... I knew the point he was making.. My point was that they are correct and asus does advertise 800mhz on that board. Thats why I brought it up.

Anyways, ya I know very well if there is an issue they do need to test it at the full speed.

I have run into some rip offs in the past!
And is there any good guides on how to actualy clean hardware like motherboards and video cards ect.. If there isnt someone should post one as it would be good for people to learn properly.

I don't deal with shops out here; mostly because they have no idea what they're talking about.
