Corsair's Upcoming MP600 PRO Gen4 SSD Promises Speeds of 7 GB/s

The Corsair MP600 PRO Gen4 (CSSD-F1000GBMP600PRO) was recently spotted on Amazon Germany before being taken down. The MP600 PRO is the successors to Corsair's MP600 SSD featuring Phison's second-generation PCIe 4.0 PS5018-E18 SSD controller and boasting sequential read/write speeds of up to 7000 MB/s, and 6850 MB/s respectively. These are some very significant generational speed improvements over the already blazing fast advertised read/write speeds of the MP600 at 4950 MB/s and 4250 MB/s.

The drive is also listed as carrying a warranty of 3,600 TBW which is likely for the 2 TB model. These new second-generation PCIe 4.0 SSDs are nearing the limits of the PCIe 4.0 x4 interface which offers maximum speeds of ~8000 MB/s. It should also be noted that these performance improvements offer very limited practical benefits to the end-user in typical use-cases over a basic PCIe 3.0 NVMe drive. Pricing and availability for the drive were not published but we expect Corsair to officially announce the drive soon.

Pay 3 times as much but games will still only load about 2 secs faster than a cheap 2.5 SATA SSD, because the bottlenecks now are caused by the CPU, not the SSD speed anymore.

yep i love my traditional 2tb ssd. i still wouldnt mind a 250gb or 500gb high end nvme boot drive (it does help all the program sideloading and loading at boots), but still keep all my games on my 2tb ssd. waiting on a sell though

Corsair MP600 Pro 2TB 3,600 TBW
Corsair MP600 Pro 1TB 1,400 TBW

Corsair MP600 at 2TB is also at 3,600 TBW
Corsair MP600 at 1TB is at 1,800 TBW

So a small reduction at 1TB but still better than the 600 TBW of the Samsung 980 Pro.

I think pricing is also up from when the MP600 was launched.

Drive looks good.

Hopefully it doesn't have the same issue as the original MP600 that it gets extremely slow when the drive fills up.

I have the 1TB MP600 and have never seen this but then again my drive has never been more than 40% full so far.

Though i've seen this posted in the corsair forum where write speeds drops. Issue looks to be firmware related.

Yet if games come out this year or the next that utilise the SSD the way the next-gen console games do, there may reason to future proof with one of these after all.

Max compressed for Ps5 is 9GB/s and Xbox Series X is 4.8 GB/s.

That's why I have both avenue's covered in my build.

All of my games go to my Sata Raid 0 array but I also have room on my PCIe 4.0 drive so I can move and test games that will benefit from the I/O increase in speed.

How are next gen consoles supposed to utilize their SSDs anyway ? I've seen a lot of talk from Sony and MS and nothing yet that showcases their claims. Hitman 3 was just released, a game that used to take quite a while to load a level and on a SATA3 SSD on PC is as fast is it is on PS4/Xbox Series X.

I am starting to believe all of those were just empty promises. What really matters with SSDs is latency, which remains roughly the same whether it runs at 1 GB/s or 10GB/s.

I think this will be a slow process and not all games will be using it day 1.

We have spent the better part of the last 30 years dealing with slow storage and designing games to use them. Once Direct I/O is out from Ms for windows I would expect more games going that route.

Plus it will be very difficult for us to verify their claims without the right tools and direct access to the hardware. Only Sony & Ms + the game dev's will have that kinda of low level access.

Is it fair to expect that a game that is released for both consoles and pc, this early in the cycle to implement a technology that won't work equally in all platforms?
Sony's PS5 has the best storage implementation, i'd expect that games released exclusively for this platform will be the first to showcase what it can truly achieve

Huh? "Empty promises"? You didn't Google PS5 SSD showcase did you? Top results have loading time demos and a Ratchet and Clank demo. Check those out as they make the IO advancements obvious.

Also, it's still very early days so give it time and do more research instead of anecdotally concluding the tech is bogus.

The benefit of spending less on B550 or X570? I have a 4.0 1TB a 3.0 2 TB SX8200 and a RAID 0 SSD array. I was satisfied with RAID 0 but 4.0 is faster (Seagate 520).

When I bought my X570, B550 was not out yet, and even if it was I still would have gone x570 as it has more PCIe 4.0 bandwidth. I intend to add another PCIe 4.0 drive in the future.

QLC vs TLC issue to a degree, as with TLC it gets a lot more expensive.

Shouldn't that affect all drives based on the same Phison controller? Also didn't see that in any reviews of the MP600. Have you tried updating the firmware, alternatively contacting Corsair support? Obviously, filling any modern SSD over a certain percentage means that you no longer have any SLC cache, so that could also be the issue.

Yet if games come out this year or the next that utilise the SSD the way the next-gen console games do, there may reason to future proof with one of these after all.

DX12 Ultimate needs to launch before that can happen.

The issue isn't it running out of SLC cache. I believe its firmware related but it doesn't affect everyone.

The 1TB drive has a 333GB SLC cache and these benchmarks aren't enough to saturate it.

These new drives with Phison's new E18 controller are wierd, Unless these companies are displaying the read IOPS wrong, its pretty low in comparison to say WD SN850 drives. Or these new controllers just suck, but I find that hard to believe.

When I bought my X570, B550 was not out yet, and even if it was I still would have gone x570 as it has more PCIe 4.0 bandwidth. I intend to add another PCIe 4.0
So you got a x570 board before the split by 2x8 PCie 4 lanes for $400 and a 16 & 4 for $200+? I should have got a board then. I have an X570 board but I really want to see what a RAID 0 NVME array can do with direct storage.

What is your source for this?

Basically any retailer listing drives with Phison's new controller...

It seems to be only for the 1TB versions. 2TB versions seem more aligned.

IOPS are translate better to real-world performance. Something just doesn't seem right with these. Unless Newegg is listing this stuff wrong?

I have been using NVME since The MP 400. NVME can be difficult to feel vs SSD. To be honest though I don't know what sauce Seagate cooked up in the 520 but I can feel the effect of NVME using that drive.

I would read actual reviews then reading the newegg listing.

None out for the MP600 Pro yet.
