Apple & AT&T Face Class Action Lawsuit Over iPhone Batteries

The iPhone battery replacement policy is causing quite a lot of controversy. Some allege that it costs over $100USD to replace your iPhone's battery, including the cost of an iPhone rental while Apple replaces the battery on the iPhone you actually own. And so, it's only natural that consumers who feel they have been swindled start a class action lawsuit. Plaintiffs Zoltan Stiener and Ynez Stiener accuse Apple of breach of contract, fraud, and violations of California law for not telling users how expensive an iPhone replacement really is. This is the third time someone has tried to hit Apple with a class action lawsuit for the cited reasons, and Apple has settled in all the previous cases.

Pfft... Even if its overpriced the consumer should be smart enough to look into and know what things so simple cost... Idiots.....

On Apple's side I am curious if they "settled" more or less saying you wont win and we will hold you are bars bay and give you nothing or you can stfu and we will cut you a deal to disappear and make us look good and like a nice company.

Ya but once you get in a class action suit like that even if they can't win it does make a bad mean name for your company and it will cost them sales.

As a company you have to know which battles to fight and which battles to meet somewhere just to keep a customer happy...
Honestly I have NEVER once had an issue with Apple's support line in anything, they have always been MORE than a pleasure to deal with.
Keeping that is key to their business, as things are generally over priced...

apple is the only phone maker that makes a phone without a user serviceable battery, what other reason than making sure every penny goes back to them would they have by not making their product user serviceable for minor things such as a battery? i am glad apple is getting sued over this because their product should be open to third party peripheral competition just like every other phone maker.

Lol... You think that's bad? My LG phone had the battery go bad, and then Verizon charged me 120$ to replace it. After it was replaced, the phone always said must have genuine battery. I had to wait 2 weeks for another battery (no rental). I'm no longer with Verizon.

Warranty should cover everything including shipping. Its not the consumers fault the company messed up. On the other hand, they should do some checking before making purchases.

Warranties nearly never cover shipping, but I do wish they would.

Thats the one real plus side to circuit city, their silly performance plan pays for shipping... On the plus side also when you are dealing with certain things like speakers it's in store swap out based on their "performance", in other words if it doesn't work exactly as well as it did when it was "brand new" you can get a new one or swap for equal model.

batteries are expensive now. especially the materials. most of the materials needed for high-end batteries are only found in asia, and when you throw them out, it takes a HUGE effort to keep them from screwing the enviroment. this is why a hybrid car is actually worse for the enviroment than a hummer. maybe apple just wanted soem nice batteries in their phones. how long do the batteries last on a charge? how long do they take to charge?

Well, most have at least a few years of warranty, and some provide free rental. Sure after warranty, but battery technology is better and getting better, maybe apple should look into the auto industry for better batteries, or maybe just make a wind up phone LoL.

After my G/F's iPod went to crap, I sent it in and they sent it back, said nothing done, no problems...it didn't even work first charge out of the bx when we got it back...they wanted me to pay to have them "look" at it again. Needless to say it became target practice for my AK. Never again will I buy an Apple wanna-be mainstream product due to crappy and cost cutting quality and horrible customer service! They are just making cash cows and don't really care what next "cliche" product they need to release as long as it has a little "i" in front of it and makes a lot of money. Sure some are decent, but I know a lot of people with iMac problems, iPod problems, and so far none of them were ready to get the iPhone, or maybe they wised up.

For those that like apple's "i" products, I hope they work better for you than the people I know and my own experiences.
