Users have recently been reporting various intermittent USB connectivity errors on AMD 500 series motherboards. AMD has acknowledged these issues in a recent Reddit post where they have asked affected users for more information to help them resolve the issues. The issues appear to be most commonly found when using VR headsets on X570 motherboards where intermittent connectivity issues are most noticeable. Some of the affected users report that the issues are most common when using a PCIe 4.0 GPU and that switching to PCIe 3.0 can sometimes resolve the issue. AMD is asking affected users to submit reports through their Online Service Request platform and will also contact users directly on Reddit to request detailed information.

Update Mar 9th:

AMD has provided some official guidance for affected users asking them to follow the solutions provided by Reddit such as disabling global C-States and switching to PCIe 3.0 mode if general troubleshooting has failed. AMD has reaffirmed that they were aware of the issue and that their engineers are actively working on a fix.

I feel it is a software problem. For my case, I first detected something funny about my mouse especially in games where the system is under load. My mouse clicks will fail to register randomly. Initially I though my mouse was going to kick the bucket, so I changed it. Unfortunately the problem did not go away. I only started experiencing this issue after I have performed a fresh OS installation with latest chipset drivers. Previously I was using an older version of Windows 10 with a chipset driver that is 1 version older than the latest, and I don't have this issue. Hardware wise is the same, so I don't think it is a hardware problem.

I wonder if asmedia supplies the driver to amd?

I had usb issues with not being able to jailbreak an ipad using a checkra1n on linux (debian, arch, odysseyn1x which i think is based on void?) all of which has the same problem with not being able to jailbreak the ipad failing at usb errors while my intel based machine from 2013 does it perfectly without issues.

Another thing, I tried restoring a bricked android device (Red Magic 3 Ubrick tool by Nubia) It never worked once on my amd based system, I even fresh installed windows just to make sure it wasn't on my end but nope it wouldn't work. at that time I simply went to a shop which fixed it using the same tool.

the android device unbrick was before I even knew about the USB issues the ipad one was after i knew about the existance of them but never really paid attention, it just so happens that on a whim I thought maybe I was being affected by the usb issues so maybe I should try jailbreaking on an intel machine which worked immediately and heck I even rejailbroke multiple times and it always worked then I rejailbroke again using the amd system and an immediate fail.

unbrick tool was windows only jailbreaking on linux only.

B550 + 3600 owner here. Is this issue primarily affecting 5000 series owners, or is it up and down the entire Ryzen stack, from 1000 series to 5000 series? Reason I ask is because I've not encountered any USB connectivity issues.

X570 + 5950X + 3000 series and I have been getting them constantly with USB Storage devices (flash drive, external USB hard drive) but only while CPU is heavily stressed with Prime95. Doesn't happen much during Cinebench R23 for some reason or even normal usage, maybe that could help isolate the issue, such as narrowing down which instructions Prime95 is relying on that Cinebench isn't. Lately my USB sound card has been disconnecting itself while playing a game, about once every couple days or so but I don't know if it's the sound card at fault or not, guessing it's this issue though because it works fine otherwise.

im using 5800X + B550 with AGESA 1.2.0.0, no issue whatsoever on my end on USB devices and storage.
But then again, im only using PCI-E3 GPU and m.2 nvme, and some say that its the PCIE4 that is causing the issue?

The scope of the issue, as well as complete list of processors, IIRC isn't fully known yet.

I have this issue but on an ASUS x470-Pro. I thought it was just a lot of signal interference (Bluetooth & Wi-Fi) until I started noticing all usb devices, wired and non, losing connection momentarily.

I suspect these problem occurred when utilizing USB 3.2 Gen 1 or whatever retarded name is, and more like isolated VR headset problem not USB in general. I had fully populated USB port on Asrock B550M Steel Legend ( 1 wireless mouse, 1 wireless keyboard, 1 docking station, 1 USB WiFi, 1 wireless bluetooth for PS4 controller, 1 USB to RJ45 , 1 USB type C HUB and 1 USB capture card ) and the only problem I get is USB type C not recognizing my phone Google Pixel 3, but then again that were Google.

edited : I'm running PCIe Gen 4.0 for my RX5700XT, all tweak from 1usmus1 like Ryzen Power Plan (enabling C-States in BIOS) and Ryzen Memory Calculator.

I dont see it as a software problem if it also happens on linux.

Try with USB 2.0, I had much luck with it for OEM unlocking or adb tweaking rather than if I was using USB 3.0

I've had issues (dirty power, all port failure until the next restart) on B350, hence the mobo swap. Not sure if an Asrock thing, or stuff just doesn't last (it started 2 years in).

So if the issue exist on others and they want to flash their firmware using USB, there is a chance that it would corrupt their update when the USB decides to malfunction?

I own ASUS CROSSHAIR VIII HERO WIFI x570 mainboad with 5800x processor and Radeon 6800XT. I running PCIe 4.
I did not notice any problems with USB itself so far.
My Roccat mechanical keyboard is sometimes not detected on boot but that issue is not from AMD. It happen ones maybe 100 new reboots.
I had that keyboard since ages and experienced the same issue on my previous intel system.
It was happening on Intel more often than now. So I think that is not related x570 but keyboard itself.

Other than that I have lot of devices attached to USBs, printer, Gaming Headset, card reader, two mice (work and gaming separate ones) but did not notice any issues.

Finally they see the issue after it has been being widely discussed in Reddit more than half a year.
Gigabyte X570 + R7 3700 + RTX 3080. This issue happened on my motherboard's USB 2.0 ports. It is not only limited to happen on VR headsets, but also on any general USB peripherals: mouses, keyboard, microphone, any you can name. Once PCIe is changed from 4.0 to 3.0, the issue is gone. However it is definitely not a resolution.

Very interestingly, affected user may find that the writing speed of PCIE 4.0 M.2 slot 1 will be limited to 1000 MB/s. Slot 2 doesn't have such issue. Reportedly from Reddit, the solution is to do a formatting on the slot 1 SSD.

On MSI X570 Unify and ASUS CH8 Impact, when I connect more than 2 USB storage devices then each next is generating errors or is not visible at all. No matter what other devices are in use (PCIe 3.0 or 4.0). I wasn't thinking about it before but looks like I can confirm problems with USB on X570.
I haven't seen any issues with other USB devices so only storage devices cause problems in my case. I also haven't seen problems when single USB storage devices are connected.
I don't remember any issues with USB on many other X570 and B550 motherboards but I don't think I was ever using more than 2 storage devices at once on any previous motherboard (I had maybe 10-12 more in tests).

No issues with 5700xt and 3900x except once my wireless mouse was cutting in and out like the battery was dying, but it was the mouse itself, after replacing it no issues for about a year now.

I have a Asus Dark Hero X570 and I have not had these issues however I have been keeping the BIOS up to date, and I just checked the USB ports and this board does not even have any 2.0 ports which seem to be affected the most. I haven't been able to determine if a fix was issues through the BIOS for this on the Dark Hero or not. The notes on each release are really limited.

No issues on two different Asus X570 boards, one running pcie4.0 the other 3.0, both on bios 3001. Coincidentally I built my new system due to an aging X-99 motherboard developing frustrating USB problems over the past 1-2 years. Definitely wasn't excited to see this particular headline pop up in the news feed..

My solution: block Win10 updates for 35 days. Install AMD drivers. Repeat as needed. It seems like Win10 reverts both USB and Radeon on my laptop as fast as it can. Otherwise, my mouse is glitchy, and one of my 3 ports literally doesn't work, and the other two reconnect a lot. Maybe this is a different problem than what's being reported here, I don't know.

I don't remember any mouse issues while booted into Tumbleweed Linux. As far as I can tell, on 2 laptops here, it's 100% software issue.
