Uniko's Hardware, a usual spot for leaks and information on upcoming hardware, has put forward that NVIDIA could be looking to introduce two versions of its upcoming RTX 3070 Ti graphics card. The difference would be dual-sided GDDR6X memory or not, which would make available memory capacities for this card in the league of either 8 GB (the same as the RTX 3070) or 16 GB running at 19 Gbps.

The intention with the RTX 3070 Ti is to bring the fight back to AMD, who released a pretty good offering to the market in the form of the RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT graphics cards - both featuring 16 GB of GDDR6 memory. NVIDIA is looking to improve its market position compared to AMD by offering both the RTX 3070 and RTX 3070 Ti on the market. It could also be a time for NVIDIA to release another cryptomining-crippled graphics card - and this time to try and do it right by not releasing a driver that unlocks that particular effort. The card is rumored for launch come May, though we've already seen an unprecedented number of delays for NVIDIA's new SKUs - a sign that there is indeed a problem in the upstream semiconductor offering field.

don't worry you won't be able to buy one for a good two years. mining is here to stay this time since BTC is legitimized by banks, creditors, and companies like Tesla. there will always be an alt coin whether that's Ethereum or something replaces Ethereum.

so meh.

Well that won’t be confusing to many casual purchasers at all. :wtf:

This is the only time I won't feel bad for not waiting for the "Ti" variant and getting the 3070. I found it at MSRP, and it's a premium Gaming X Trio model. It was also when my previous GPU died, rendering my PC unusable due to Ryzen having no iGPU. That was 2 months ago.

Waiting for the 3070 Ti would've proven disastrous, considering I wouldn't even be able to find one.

I'm good with 8 GB, thanks.

Right now, 8GB seems to be plenty but these cards costing north of $1000 (thanks, 2020 & 2021) should be expected to perform well even when they're a few generations old.

Time and time again we've seen cards that were good but had "just enough" VRAM become useless before their time whilst larger-VRAM'ed variants gave another useful couple of years of service.

Perhaps if they were 1/3rd the price like consumer GPUs were supposed to be, it would matter less....

It's hard to understand why both nvidia and amd keep releasing new variants of cards when they cannot supply their current releases.

they are robotic companies at the end the day, they probably had these timelines planned from the beginning, so instead of adjusting for PR reasons they just keep to the plan. I usually find businessmen to be this inept in life, so I wouldn't see why it wouldn't apply to large corporations. Only the ancient philosophers understood basic logic, businessmen only understand greed.

"Even in these trying times, Nvidia remains a technology leader in graphics compute, with a full and exciting lineup of consumer and professional graphics solutions." - Nvidia, probably

Due to the worldwide pandemic, supply in some regions may be affected. Nvidia remains committed to ensuring reliable availability to our valued customers.
- Nvidia, probably

It's funny how with all the glowing talk of stakeholder theory being backed by law and finally being poised to dethrone the accursed shareholder primacy theory, we're still right back where we started. Normally, it'd be nice to have a few passionate investors heckle Nvidia with the difficult questions at their AGM, but with the way it's conducted remotely I imagine Nvidia isn't even open to taking questions lmao.

As the OP lists three kinds of Vram I would suggest a 3070 Super with 8GB is in there between the 3070 and 3070Ti. ;)

I guess pretty easy. Bad batch for 3080, but better for 3070... lets release 3070 ti :), same goea for amd.

Indeed.

For everyone running 1080p, 8GB less ram could be some serious savings.

I'm not venting. Perhaps you're too young to remember, but Nvidia used to play this game 15 to 20 years ago, putting out multiple memory models of the same GPU and it actually did make it confusing for many people. don't forget, most people are not as technically clued in as people in this forum. Always remember that. Think like average citizen, not tech aficionado.
