It's close to impossible finding a Ryzen 9 mobile processor-powered gaming notebook with a high-end NVIDIA GPU. Having returned to the high-end discrete GPU market with the "Big Navi" Radeon RX 6000 series, AMD is looking to complement its Ryzen 5000M series "Zen 3" Cezanne mobile processors with high-end RDNA2 GPUs of its own. An upcoming model of the ASUS ROG G15 (2021) leaked to the web in a CPU-Z validation database (model: G513QY). This notebook packs a Ryzen 9 5900HX "Cezanne" 8-core/16-thread processor based on the "Zen 3" microarchitecture; but more interestingly, the discrete GPU is Radeon RX 6800M.

The desktop Radeon RX 6800 (non-XT) and RX 6700 XT have shown that AMD has achieved performance/Watt parity/leadership over NVIDIA with high-end GPUs. VideoCardz reports that the RX 6800M is likely based on a maxed-out 7 nm "Navi 22" silicon, with 2,560 stream processors, and 12 GB of GDDR6 memory across a 192-bit wide memory bus. The RX 6800M could play in the same performance league as the GA104-based GeForce RTX 3080 Mobile, given that the desktop RX 6700 XT is leveling up to the desktop RTX 3070. Given the 256-bit memory bus width of the larger "Navi 21" silicon, it's quite possible that AMD comes up with even higher mobile SKUs, so AMD-powered gaming notebooks finally match/beat Intel+NVIDIA combinations.

How on earth do AMD get away withg their naming. Why is an 8 core CPU called 5900HX, just hoping people are stupid enough to think it must be 12 cores. Pathetic move.

When i buy a laptop i know there is a mobile processor inside with a different name scheme from desktop, is different when you buy a 11900k and it has less core than a 10900k...

Hope its not vendor exclusive like what they did on 5500XT being MSI only and 5600XT being Dell only.

Good finding sir, could you also tell me the difference between i5-10210U and i7-10510U please?

If I bought a laptop with a 5900HX in it, I wouldn't have a clue how many cores it has, only that it's an AMD processor.
Now if I bought an Intel powered laptop knowing i7's were all quad core, Id be pissed if they changed it to 2 cores without telling anyone.

Boo friggin hoo get over it, not that hard to figure out what core count the CPU is.

How on earth did you post this here? Do you browse WTFtech so often? Otherwise you'd know that even Intel doesn't follow their desktop naming scheming for laptops & they have a billion other SKUs just because they can!

I dunno about that, but hey at least you're not buying an i7 with just 2 cores anymore :nutkick:

I think when you buy a system or make a system with AMD cpu, you should as well pair it with AMD GPU. I know it is not logical or rational but it feels bitter with a Nvdia GPU inside. Maybe, I'm just weird.

i kinda agree, on a performance metric though, as nvidia have a larger driver overhead than radeon, which is likely to happen more on laptops due to the nature of limited power for CPU and low resolution screen compared to desktop

Only tested on DX12... and have they never heard of Threaded Optimization?

Interesting, I am curious more than anything about the 6800M GPU mostly because AMD has not been much in discreet mobile GPU game lately. Will be interesting to see its performance.

This is an issue across the board. Intel i7's can be found with just 4 cores in laptops, nvidia 3080 mobile is based on the same chip as 3070 desktop, and the rx6800 in this new post is based on the same chip as the rx6700 desktop :-(

Laptops should be expected to have lower performance than desktops, but I do think it is deceptive when they use cut down chips with the same name, rather than simply lower clocked versions of the same chip.

Sorry? As far as I know, 5900HX is not 5900X, so what is the problem? And what do you think of the below mentioned Tiger Lake CPUs all being 4(8)?
Core i3 1125G4
Core i5 1145G7
Core i5 1135G7
Core i7 1185G7

all companies are stupid on naming, where have you been?

other than Kingston's new gen4 nvme, which is simply called 'Ghost Tree' ALL HAIL!!! KINGSTON!!! for finally understanding what we wanted all along  let's face it, we all know I am buying the Ghost Tree because that sexy name alone, then subsequently renaming my PC, the Ghost Tree....nom nom

oh sweet mama @W1zzard I hope you review that baby sooner rather later! I emailed sales department of Kingston like 3 weeks for an eta on it, they never emailed me back lol

Damn guys, I think he got the point lol

well it is true, even tv names, monitor names, across the entire industry naming has always been dumb for electronics (at least for the common consumer)

I agree. Adding an "m" at the end doesn't justify the fact that they are based on lower end silicon. It's outright deceitful.
