Thats such bullshit to the current ongoing issue. Cards are mass bought for mining purposes, which adds nothing genuine to the world at this moment now. Its just everyone for it's own where greed is put up front. Coins like BTC could only be (profitable ) mined with a proper asic. A GPU in this case is extremely waste of resources. So they all jump to ETH which is one of the few coins that allow mining by GPU's. The more ETH's are mined the more difficult these maths will become over time.

In a year, few years perhaps, the ETH market collapses and thus mining becomes no longer profitable. This means that the used market will be flooded with used cards. I hope really that that day happens soon enough, because at this point it will take quite a while before a new released generation of videocards could be even bought. It's nonsense if you ask me. Put all that power into something usefull for us or humanity. Not for mining a virtual coin.

as I said before, there will always be alt coin tagging along to big daddy, even if ETH fails something else will replace it and require mining. post to this topic in 18 months and tell im wrong /shrug

I am against mining. always have been really. nothing you or I can do about it though, pandora's box has been opened. only one able to stop it is treasury secretary Yellen, and she doesn't seem like she cares all that much. sadly

Hey, I'll poke whoever I want but so far AMD is shitting all over EU. 6800's and 6900's were nowhere to be seen for two months from launch. When they were available they were priced at nearly €200 over the price of Nvidia offerings (back then 3080's went for €900+ and 6800 XT's were already at €1100). Since launch 6700 XT's were only available at Mindfactory, for €700+.

The reality for me is that 6700 XT's over here cost €1300 and are out of stock from day 1.
Edit.
Lowest is €1267
View attachment 195697

If mindfactory is getting any stock it's getting ALL (or 99.9% of) the stock for EU. And that means that those cards are only going to people in Germany and maybe Austria.

Mindfactory might have pushed 1500 6700XT's in a single week (at €800, which is utter bs) but now they have 10 units of single Asrock SKU:
View attachment 195693
The only valid alternative for EU is AMD direct, but even that is limited to 10 or so countries.

So yeah, 6700 XT's availability is nothing to me if I'm suppose to be paying way over double of what it's worth.
Holy crap, prices are just plain nuts!!!:twitch::eek: I can't believe I'd landed a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6900 XT for the equivalent of about 5090zt (or about 1113EUR) back in 2nd Jan.

yep we both got really lucky. sadly im working two jobs now so i have no time to game, and i don't really think it would be worth mining with only one gpu setup... so eh. not sure what to do. considering selling it all while the prices are good. keep saving up and maybe buy an AM5 rig next year. i dunno yet. no point in having it if i never get time to game though. also, i still have my gtx 1070 laptop and another intel hd graphics laptop... i used the intel hd graphics laptop to play indie games while at grad school and it was perfectly fine doing that... might sell the 1070 laptop and my desktop setup while prices are good. we'll see.

i still want to play a few more indie games, and the intel hd graphics laptop will handle it just fine. i don't know what to do just yet. eh.

I saw the preorder was almost $ 1900, dang it at that price I would take the RX 6900XT even if I had to add another ~$ 200. But then again, if latter exist.

Yeah back then the only thing available for next day shipping were 6900 XT's for €1500+ which had me going "No way I'm going to spend that much on a GPU". Well now they cost €2200+.

They were there upfront on mindfactory, which is still in Europe, I guess.
Overpriced.
First roughly as heavily as green cards and when

Cheapest 6700XT is at around 850 Euro at the moment. Quite mightly in stock.

ETH is moving to Proof-of-stake, which cannot be mined. The current GPU-mined Proof-of-work will be pretty dead in a couple of years or so.

I had a "can't beat them, join them" mining revelation last month. My energy is greener than in most countries and my house is electrically heated anyway, with an exhaust-air heat pump. Any waste heat my mining rigs dump out just gets claimed by the heat pump and used to heat my water and room radiators; The energy is getting turned into heat one way or another, I might as well profit from it....

Bitcoin was replaced by ETH and there will be something to replace that.

the problem is it doesn't matter, bots will have them bought up before your email notification even arrives. i assure there are thousands of computers that simply refresh constantly on every gpu site all over the world. cryptocurrency is the future a lot of people feel, since government keeps printing money and never paying it back, the assumption is it will all collapse. so there thousands if not millions of people going 'all in' so to speak on cryptocurrency.

there is no chance within next 18 months you will get a gpu. i could be wrong, but i don't think so, not this time... not after all the big banks, corporations, visa, mastercard, paypal, etc all accept bitcoin now... which means there will always be a altcoin to be mined tagging along...

this is the end of gpu gaming. i think we will see nvidia and amd pushing for cloud based gaming like GeForce now in the future.

People said the same thing in 2014 and again in 2018, that mining had destroyed the GPU scene and PC gaming was dead yadda yadda.

Seriously go look at the old comment threads here, on techspot, anandtech, ece. The EXACT SAME COMPLAINTS running through the comment section like corn syrup through electronics.

Everyone wants to jump onthe "muh alt coin" train. The global chip shortage is not due solely to coin mining. People seem to forget we shut the whole world down a year ago, and that global supply chains suffer both short and LONG term effects. Welcome to a long term effect. Shortages of PCB materiel, shortages of substrates, shipping shortages, ece all affect GPU supply. It's not just "muh mining etherium" doing this.

I commend AMD for finding a novel way to launch a card in an attempt to get more in the hands of actual users. Rather than releasing inventory through retail channels, only to be snapped up by bots as you say, they opted to make a link available only to those who have previously signed up for their marketing emails and who clicked on that link on the designated date and time. Unfortunately there will still be those who capitalize on the current market to turn a profit, but judging from the posts in this thread there are a few of us who intend on keeping our spoils.

the difference is bitcoin is accepted by paypal, visa, mastercard, big banks, etc. that was never the case until now. it's the game changing difference
