Here are some of the first pictures of the ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16, a high-end 16-inch gaming notebook in development, characterized with its tall 16:10 aspect-ratio display. This display will come in two resolution options—2560 x 1600 at 144 Hz and 1920 x 1200 at 165 Hz. Both displays support 100% DCI-P3 coverage, and are mounted via a 180-degree hinge. Things get very interesting with that's alleged to be under the hood. The 2021 ROG Zephyrus M16 is powered by 11th Gen Core "Tiger Lake H45" processors, with the top SKU powered by the 10 nm Core i9-11900H, an 8-core/16-thread beast. Graphics options go all the way up to the GeForce RTX 3070 Mobile. A PCI-Express 4.0 x4 NVMe SSD is also included. Given its early listings on Amazon, one can expect launch of these notebooks to be right around the corner.

Guys, does anybody know why some laptops have hdmi 2.1 while others only 2.0b with 3xxx series gpu?
I am looking to pair one with my 4k 120hz tv and realized that the scar and zephyrus for example handle only 2.0b.

Does it have to do with the chipset? Or the onboard intel gpu?

So basic "gaming" laptops that you can barely game on, but with the Asus tax?

So a 80 Watt 3070 ...
Which gets thumped by a 130 Watt 3060 ...
Pricing with these new TGP RTX laptops versus their relative performance is all over the place.

This practise is nothing new. Manufacturers have been doing it for decades. they could give every laptop desktop class GPUs and CPUs in but these wouldnt be called 'laptops' more like 'desktop replacements' or 'mobile workstations'

They have to meet certain power consumption and thermal requirements/restrictions to have any chance of a half decent battery life and a laptop that wont melt itself into serving tray.

He's referring to the mobile 3060, which has multiple power modes some of which allow it to be faster then the 3070 is.

That is NOT normal, that's a new thing where the TDP limit of your GPU is your performance determiner rather then model number. 3060, 3070, 3080, these names are meaningless now in mobile.

I wonder how low the CPU will run at full load with minuscule cooling and a very hot and bothered 3070 close by. Everything about this cries out for a huge laptop pad with multiple fans and it’s covers to be removed to actually use the hardware inside.

Can we all agree that a inch thicker gaming laptop profile is OK as it will allow better airflow and or more heat pipes to move the heat away and out without needing leg protection to use? Plus think about the battery that could be added.

Car analogies are common to hardware, this would be the 1/4 mile dragster that could, but you always catch on fire, but you can idle around the pit area looking good for an hour talking about specs with other crews and claiming that being on fire or idling down the track doesn’t bother you cause you COULD win, but you don’t want to be put out today.

2560 x 1600 in a laptop screen is the perfect resolution IMO. No need for 4K at anything less than 17".
