MSI Launches Two CMP 30HX MINER Series Cards

MSI has recently announced two new CMP (Cryptocurrency Mining Processor) 30HX MINER Series cards the MSI CMP 30HX MINER, and MSI CMP 30HX MINER XS. These new cards borrow the coolers from the ARMOR series and VENTUS XS respectively, MSI is one of the first manufacturers to offer multiple versions of a CMP card so it will be interesting to see the differences in performance and pricing given the two cards feature identical specifications. The two cards both feature the TU116-100 GPU with 1408 cores and a base clock of 1530 MHz along with a boost clock of 1785 MHz and 6 GB GDDR6 memory. The cards also lack any display outputs as per all CMP cards and pricing or availability information is not available.

I really don't understand why they will launch this, I mean in 2017~2018 was the same thing, they released some mining cards then crypto crashed then they stopped because nobody would buy them. This will be the same thing, they will release, charge an arm and leg for it then crypto will crash then they will stop selling it. Demand for gpus is only in crypto bull market, bear market nobody mines. The same rx 570 the are selling for 900 usd today was selling for 79 usd few months ago.

Well you just answer your own question, miners either buy RX570 for 900usd or these mining cards for 700usd, neither one has any resell worth :D

No doubt, there will always be a workaround, I think nVidia just wants to make things annoying as possible to deter people at this point.

No doubt, there will always be a workaround, I think nVidia just wants to make things annoying as possible to deter people at this point.

Probably yes :D I think Nvidia forgets that miners often sell the GPUs when market crash and selling a mining card will be much harder

Nope, I doubt it'll work. All of my experiments with Gigabyte P104-100 failed back in a day - the display output is most likely disabled on GPU itself.
The only thing you can do, is use it in virtualized environment, but I'm not sure if that freshly-introduced GPU passthrough works with mining cards at all.

Tried that too. There were some people on YT that were semi-successful, but in my case it was also a flop.

The only thing that might be doable natively, is using them as poor man's compute accelerator. I know for sure it works fine with most cuda-accelerated apps on linux (and few on windows), but NvEnc/NvDec hardware is also missing, so things like encoding in handbrake or Premiere Pro won't be possible.

I'll get another P104 in a few days, maybe do some more experiments w/ HW modding.

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
We're supposed to believe these 1660 Super chips couldn't possibly have been made into a consumer card with working display outputs? Puh-lease.....

These are intentionally hardware-sabotaged 1660S cards that will soon be e-waste and therefore landfill.

People that will buy theses cards are gamblers. They buy with the hopes of future profits. There will still be a market for them even if crypto crashes. Just not as lucrative.

30MH/s is earning around 6usd/day now so miners could break even with these GPU within 100 days, well maybe :D

That is why they are doing it, to leave of the pressure from GPU cards...for these MPU (Mining Processing Unit). :pimp:

I have 1.33 GH/s and I'm rarely earning more than $100 a day before rig overheads and energy costs. Net is closer to $85

30MH/s isn't even two bucks a day, I don't think.

Edit - that's close to a year before break-even and ETH is "supposed" to move to proof of stake early in 2022. Obviously I'm hoping it'll be late 2022 but that looming deadline makes selling cards for mining that won't break even quite difficult, no? Miners like me aren't interested in CMP cards anyway. Small scale operations need to factor in the resale value of the cards and CMP cards look to be completely unsellable if mining crashes.
