Apple Could Be Working on Switch-Like Gaming Console

Nintendo Switch is one of the most successful gaming console launches in the past few years. It has seen massive consumer adoption, and Nintendo is even expanding its production. The only logical thing for other companies watching this would be to step in the game and launch their console. That is exactly was the latest rumor suggests about Apple. According to a rumor coming from the South Korean forum, Apple could be preparing a Switch-like design, just with its custom Apple ecosystem surrounding it. As the rumors suggest, the fruit company could get into the console gaming market by launching a product based on custom hardware. Rumors suggest that Apple could use a custom processor to power the console, which wouldn't be like M or A versions the company currently uses. Of course, this is just a rumor and it should be treated as such.

With over 84 million Switch sold I would definitely call it a success. I don't know if Apple can hope for those kinds of sales though.

I think Apple is too soulless to make a console with good ecosystem. They are capable to be sure, but Nintendo runs on talents that produce fun games and its stack of established IPs.

Oops I forgot the fact that they only need to sell the brand, because people will buy anything Apple. ah well~

You could say literally the same thing about Nintendo.

Apple's problem is that they don't make games, and the 3rd party catalogue on Mac is piss poor, too. The novelty of playing app crap on a glorified iPad would wear off quickly.

Amazon tried to get into the gaming market as well, with their own studio and numerous titles. Their foray was a complete and utter failure.

Apple once made a console, but that died faster than Phillips CDi. You need a good studio to make a good platform, single handedly rely on brand acknowledgment won't cut it.

Doesn't matter - if Apple Tv is any guide, they will charge a massive price premium, while forcing their developers to use that shitty remote! Expect similarly-bad design decisions.

There will be no exclusives ( just plays ios games generically, like every other Android handheld console does!) Will have the same limitations on controller compatibility that all mobile games already suffer from.

With Apple constantly battling those wanting RTR i can only assume spares won't be availabe and it'll be in landfill once owners realize a repair will cost more than the console itself.

iConsole? :D
Great, but aren't they dropping the 'i' fom their products.

Of all the megatechcorps I'd say Apple probably has the best chance of sticking with it long enough for it to actually become something more than a blip. But I honestly don't think they will, even if that specific market (handhelt consoles) could use some more players...

If Apple is in the game everytime they release next gen console the older gen will receive an update to reduce the performance in order to save the planet

Not a fan of the switch or Apple but I would like to Nintendo make a real console again, with some real power finally. But they won't cause all titles would need to be on the switch too.

I think there's two things that probably kills this rumour.

A: Could Apple sell a console at the sub $400 bracket? Doubt it.

B: Apple hasn't been noted buying any studios or even recruiting talent. We all know that the game industry is content driven now, and if they aren't buying studios, they aren't making a console.

Walled garden and Apple store content only, it's not going to fly, they're too strict now with developers and content.

I'm guessing something like a customized iPad with TV output and bundled controllers

A portable console for Apple Arcade? I wonder how many people are actually subscribed to Apple Arcade in the first place. In my opinion, a portable gaming console may not be what their target market will want.

Hard-core pass. Apple has not business in the gaming industry. They have already proven that they are completely out of touch with gamers and have been for decades.

Seriously, no thank you Apple! Keep your lacking sensibilities to your phones, tablets and the rubbish you call PC's...

They're trying to maximize the number of products on their portfolio and do this sort of incomprehensible investments to not pay taxes at this point,
they expect and want all their money to be managed internally.
Pretty normal for a trash tier company that freezes its money abroad.

Apple doesn't need to make a new console.

They already have one with every single iPad in circulation. No other hand-held console can match that coverage and market saturation, considering millions sold every year. Apple sold nearly 60M iPads just in 2020, Switch is nowhere.

There is just one flaw with that logic: The kinds of people that buy iPads are generally not the kinds of people that would flock to it for gaming beyond what is already offered in the Apple Store.

Apple gaming console, They would sell it for 1599.00 and market it as that. Of course it would only be 150.00 to make it. Apple and their 450% markups
